JEFF WAGNER’S TUNNEL OF LOVE
AN ETERNITY OF BLOOD
Glorious Alchemical Co.

What better way to come back from a silent period than with an album that starts like David Bowie tenderising some Happy Days-era crooning, with a chorus seemingly based around a food mixer of some kind? Well if that’s what you’re after ‘An Eternity Of Blood’ certainly delivers. Capriciously melodic, making room for odd noises and humanising them, making them an exhilarating part of the whole, Jeff Wagner sounds like a man who just snapped up all outstanding mortgages in Twin Peaks and intends cracking the whip. ‘The Orchestrion Speaks’ is an engaging, positively whimsical instrumental, setting up the jaunty fear of ‘Shiny Claws’ with its furtive fairground organ and mischievous imagery, and we dip into some delightful instrumental power in ‘A Fright’, only to be thrown into the sweetly buffed-up chrome pop of ‘You Could Be Brand New’

‘The Electric Whirlitron’ takes us back to the frightful clamour of sub-Industrial groaning speculation, ‘No Sleep 2-Night’ is more agonising entreaties drenched in Americana of the elegant type Chris Isaak might manage if stuffed into a cupboard and fed hallucinogenics.
‘Social Anxiety’ is music with a perplexing mix of espionage patter and children’s TV simplicity, that leads into ‘Super-Naturalism’ which highlights how Jeff was doing things, as he still is, which others are now catching on to. This isn’t a million miles different to Flipron, just as the ‘Shiny Claws’ song is similar to what some Steampunk artists are now rejoicing over. It’s silky, but filthy too.

Last night went well, from what I could tell anyway!

I was given infinite Carling, then they ran out of Carling so it tuned into infinite Carlsberg, then they ran out of that and the other draught beers so it turned into infinite Becks.

Jamie did a stormer, and was the best I've ever seen him.

We were both helped a lot by a sound guy who was actually really good.

ARGH! FOR CRYING OUT LOUD. [Oct. 10th, 2008|03:00 pm]

[mood | in pain]

my back is getting worse and worse. every tiny movement my body does - even lifting my mug or breathing deeply - causes huge pain. I originally thought I'd slept badly but I'm beginning to think I might have pulled something yesterday. don't think I did any heavy lifting though... ow ow ow ow. I just want to go home have a bath and go to bed. unfortunately the place with the working bath and the place with the bed are seperated by a 10 minute walk and I need to go and sort out the freezer in the old house anyway.

boo! gah if this keeps up I might not make it out to keef and jamie's gig :( boo - am already missing night light cos I have too much to do.

turns out the boiler is well and truely knackered and the engineer is coming to replace it on monday so no hot water or heating til then. am quite tempted to have a bath in the old house tonight - shame there's no where to lounge about afterwards!

I will stop whinging and moaning one day dear readers, I promise!

help orange move - the dirrrty years. [Oct. 10th, 2008|11:07 am]

rightio

if anyone wants to help tomorrow with the dirty work I have 10 disposable overalls and 10 masks. shexay. it's not just heavy lifting and dirty stuff* as there's a variety of dismantling and van loading to do too. hell someone even gets to go through all the tins of pain and put them into 'keep because some of the house is painted this colour' or chuck - ooo excitement.

* there are also big rubbery gloves and goggles for these tasks :)

so 1pm for the dirty work, 12pm for general tidying, bagging and moving - I'm planning to get there about 10-11 to get my pc up to my bedroom (as there's no carpet up there so it should remain dust free if I shut the door properly) and to manouver the empty fishtank downstairs and sort through my crap.

beer and pizza for the survivors :)

and another thing...

according to Sideline: The Sisters Of Mercy back on tour, no new album in sight ...and no new promo photographs either, it would appear.

But is it just me, or - looking at that photo - has Michael Jackson joined the Sisters?

I know that I am guilty, on occasion, of excessive promotion/spamming... but I can't help feeling that the sending of speculative emails that are 10MB in size, that also contain fetish imagery, is possibly slightly outside the boundaries of appropriate internet behaviour.

Not that I'm complaining, obviously, but it's the principal of the matter.

[music |At the Drive In]

i need to find a flatmate and a flat for leeds in arround february next year, my absolute maximum budget is 300 pcm for rent, id rather get a place in bramley but i dont really care. Im usually very tidy, unless im depressed, in which case i surround myself in a temple of flth.

this weekend im going to mortaled, im taking steve as were both massive keef baker fanboys and i recon some *whatever genre keef baker is* may actually cheer me up. Steve may enjoy ESA, and i do to, but im not sure id have the best of times in my current mindset. I may leave beforehand, i may sit in a corner rocking back and forth, trying to peal myself and have a conversation about vegatibles with the cheesegrater fairies, either way, im still going out.
I know its chrisses birthday, but i cant afford the journey down and the company of more then 2 larpers at the time is.. frankley, caustic (no not good caustic, bad caustic)
if chris is reeding this and is still playing eve ill give him a multy million isk birthday present when he signes on; and possibly a physical birthday present the next time i see him,

work exists in a parallel 'bordum dimention' beyond reconing, ) i have mostly been reeding old cource notes (SNIA san managment and admin and z/OS Storage managment fundimentals) and thinking / writing about eve )

the book im reeding is a mess, its a tree hugging hippy fantisy tail of epic steriotypical proportions: pro/con list )

finally, with my birthday approaching i have organised my wish list into order of priority

Finally Finally, could peopole please stop saying 'credit crunch' its now a Recession, give it its proper name. (a recession caused by the credit crunch, this misnomer is similar to why i dont like the term 'global warming' as it refers to the *cause* but is ambigous asbout the effect (the emergence of the equaly ambiguous term: 'climate change' as a fix dosent help), the credit crunch is the cause, the Recession is the effect)

Finally finally finally: one of the guys in our team's wife has just been diagnosed with twins; cue the emergence of a hither to unknowen history of twins in the storage team and thus: plenty of 'redundency' related double and indeed triple entendres.

I have had the mother of all weeks, computer-wise. Problems with the computer itself, my internet connection, as well as eBay, Photobucket and Paypal. A total nightmare! To counter this I have been listening to a lot of Bill Pritchard, and working on the Goth Archive series which will soon be books via lul.com. I used to do a Gothic History series of massive pdfs on CD for a bit, containing all my old work, and special photo bonuses, but those have been discontinued for quite some time. These books will be interviews-only, illustrated with exclusive pics, and they’re looking good, unless I cock up the pdf formatting, assuming that matters?

So, if I can work out to how to store images on LJ itself to use with reviews while my Photobucket problems get sorted, service resumes tomorrow.

In the meantime, please buy THE KITTEN Issue 2 (see below). Some people have admitted it made them cry!

[music |someone humming hymns in the office o_0]

so, whinging aside, what's the rub in Orangeland?

Moved into the new house on Saturday. have failed to unpack anything apart from the cookbooks and my bedroom entertainments. (oi! dirty! I mean my seperate system, cds, vinyl, dvd player and telly) I got a bit wrapped up in playing with my records and even inflicted abba and tangerine dream on poor daevid :) I did try and make up for it by playing Jordan Minnesota at him but I'm not sure the shouts of "fuck daddy" really helped wash away the swedes.

Never realised how many clothes I have given I wear the same old shit again and again. 3 really big boxes, 3 drawers, 2 holdalls and a laundry basket full. plus the socks, pants, and tights bags, the pile I chucked and the bag I've put to one side for the multiblack goth swap.

The new house feels nice - my new room is over half as big again as the old one and I'm attempting to contain my computer clutter in a walk in cupboard (henceforth known as orange's caven in homage to oracle's caven) off the spare room (henceforth known as the ginger suite due to eddy virtually living there) The boiler isn't working so no heating or hot water but a chap should be in looking at it today. the kitchen is fine (apart from the bloody electric cooker but I'm vaguely considering other options there) and it's really nice having one on the same floor as the living room - it feels easier to pop into and cook/clean. could do with a table or some more storage or something, and a the booze cupboard needs furnishing correctly. the back alley is perfect for fuzzy's bike as it's locked at the top and he can make his bike invisible behind the dustbins. living room is *much* smaller than the old one and quite cramped but I'm working on cosy :) bathroom is utterly spartan and needs a mirror, some towel storage and some shelving. thankfully the shower is electric so we can use that despite the boiler ills.

am kinda failing to unpack at the mo as the living room needs tweaking and some shelves putting up - I was kinda hoping to get stuff done this weekend but the old house is going to eat my time instead. I need a trip to ikea sometime next week if anyone has a decent sized car and would like to join me (there will be petrol money! woo!) - they're open til 10! I need to get the 4*4 version of the cupboard we have in the club's cloakroom for my bedroom plus a whole host of other shite for the house. (no more tupperware! no more saucepans!)

flyers [Oct. 9th, 2008|08:13 am]

[music |Rome Burns - The Static Murmur]

I can has flyers. Surely macro-speak must be terribly terribly passé by now? In the hip and cool scale it must be on a par with saying "hip and cool". I imagine it's used by the same sort of people who - were they around 20 years ago - would go around saying "station!" a lot. Ask your parents.

Anyway, I digress.

The Screaming Banshee Aircrew/Modulate flyers (surely a marriage made in heaven) have arrived, which means I'm here to beg you all to help distribute them. My main target is Whitby, but obviously getting them to pretty much any goth/industrial related places in the north of England would be good. So please volunteer! (...before I start volunteering people, he says in a slightly sinister voice!)

if you're nosey, the flyers are under here... )

There is now the inevitable facebook event for the November Flock/SBA gig (http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=42690435732) feel free to pimp this as much as possible! There's also one for December/Modulate (http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=34696851329) so feel free to add yourself - I haven't done the "big add" myself yet as it seems a bit early, but I thought I might as well get the event created.

In other news I'm having trouble getting into the new Colonization, despite loving the original... however I imagine it'll shortly be superseded when Lego Batman arrives anyway.

So..

The first time I've been released on vinyl and I'm not going to see it.

Mind you, it looks pretty damn sweet.

PS: I have plans for at least 2 "Keef Baker" releases in 2009...

But one will purposefully not be on a label.

Ah! *taps nose* Y'see....

**Ah sod it... some details**

Pen Fifteen - the next album is the first one

Viral - An EP released in a very different way is next and then..

Dan dan Daaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!

I will be working on and getting artists ready for the completion of Fetishman's Attack Of The Adult Babies. I will need a few meetings with [info]fetishman in the new year to get the story planned out so we can then look at getting people working on it.

DUST! [Oct. 8th, 2008|09:57 am]

[mood | better]

the buyer has accepted my request for £105k so I've only lost 2k.
as a caveat to this he wants the house *utterly* empty. including carpets. and is going to inspect before he transfers the funds over.
so this weekend the house has to get destroyed. I shall hire a skip. so here we have call to arms part 2 - the dirty work.
if anyone comes and helps me to pull up the carpets (there are only 3 - al's room, the spare room and the stairs) and to skip everything else then there will be more feasting and drinking. I'm not envisioning it taking that long but will be nasty, dusty and filthy and there will be a little bit of heavy lifting as we need to get the fridge freezer out of the cellar.

I shall try and keep my room and the bathroom as clean as possibly so people can hose themselves down. I shall also have to send fuzzy to a diy shop to get some disposable paper suits and facemasks.

think I'll need a really serious facemask myself as I'm still coughing from last weekend's dust and carpet pulling will kill me and my feeble lungs - anyone got any info.
