Feel free to fill this up with pictures of your tattoos, Decemberists-related or not. |

| On Palin |
[Sep. 4th, 2008|01:33 pm] |
First, here's a link to a well written list of 20 Things You Should Know About Sarah Palin that I found through friendsfriends. It's got links to the supporting references for claims made and so allows you to verify the 20 things in some way. Conclusion? Be afraid, be very very afraid.
And Second, I'm definitely seeing the picture here of Palin as the Worst Sort of Christian Wacko Kerazy. Article here. Excerpts of particular mind-bogglingness below:
"Our national leaders are sending them [troops] out on a task that is from God," she said. "That's what we have to make sure that we're praying for, that there is a plan and that plan is God's plan."
Right. So God has the responsibility to generate the plan for war. How's that coming God? You seem be missing some of these vague milestones, God? Do you have all the resources you need, God? I'd like to send you out on some skill-enhancement training for improved project management, God, I think it iwill help the world. Palin told graduating students of the church's School of Ministry, "What I need to do is strike a deal with you guys." As they preached the love of Jesus throughout Alaska, she said, she'd work to implement God's will from the governor's office, including creating jobs by building a pipeline to bring North Slope natural gas to North American markets. "God's will has to be done in unifying people and companies to get that gas line built, so pray for that," she said. Right. So her job is to realize God's will through building an oil pipeline. The coicidence she's a Republican aand her husband works on oil rigs--a mere coincidence. Got it. "I can do my job there in developing our natural resources and doing things like getting the roads paved and making sure our troopers have their cop cars and their uniforms and their guns, and making sure our public schools are funded," she added. "But really all of that stuff doesn't do any good if the people of Alaska's heart isn't right with God." So. She'll work to serve the people. But only the people who subscribe to her god. Great. Good idea. |

Link here.
I have to admit, it's somewhat refreshing to hear the partisans express as much WTFery over Palin as I see it to be. It's when they put forth this face of denial that I lump them all as looney and fucktards. This shows something more human and relatable. |

The presale link sent out in the last e-missive was wrong, so just in case some of you haven't cut out all the extra .coms in it, it's http://decemberists.tickets.musictoday.com
So, hey, ticket prices are ABSURD this time around. Why would anyone willingly pay $30 and $10+ in fees/shipping to see a band, even The Decemberists, in an armpit like Baltimore?! Not this gal! ROADTRIP TO PHILLY!
P.S. I'm about to start going through and tagging all the old entries so old interviews and tour pictures and stuff can be easier to find. |

This quote: The McCain aide emphasized that Bristol decided to keep the baby, a decision "supported by her parents."
Oh really? Oh really? Decided. Decided.
Sounds pretty fucking pro-choice. Because if there's no choice, there's no decision. |

Does anyone watch the tv show Mad Men on AMC? It's a drama about 1960's ad men. The theme music is RJ2D but during the show they normally they stick to Dean Martin and Rosemary Clooney type stuff. During the opening scene of tonight's show they played The Infanta. I thought it kind of strange. |

| Please, don't vote for stupid |
[Aug. 29th, 2008|10:22 am] |
One of the small messages from last night's historic speech that I particularly identified with was that we need to promote education and intelligence and to help compete in the global marketplace. I take that up as a rally against what I've all too often seen as stupid-apologists. Or lazy thinkers expecting others to dumb things down for them. I see in bosses who have said, "You write, like sentences, and stuff. It's hard to understand. Can't you use bullets or something?" I've seen it when american voters choose to vote for someone who displays evidence of a sub-standard IQ just as often as he displays indications of delusions of adequacy. I loathe ignorance a lot but I abhor it a thousand-fold more when it's willful ignorance. I demand that smart be the ideal, stupid a tragedy, and willful ignorance the worst sin against the human race possible!
Anyway, in this vein, I need to steal and spread this gem thanks to suibhne_geilt
At John McCain's campaign store, you can get this lovely pen:

[Aug. 27th, 2008|09:01 pm] |
BILL CLINTON. <3
So, in 1992, I was 11 years old. I have vague recollections of the 1988 election, but my first memory of a Presidential election, was Bill Clinton playing his sax on Arsenio Hall. I know that makes me a baby :P but you know, he was young and my mother loved him, and it was exciting!
And so when I started the DVR to listen to Bill's speech tonight, and he walked out to "Don't Stop Thinking About Tomorrow" (of course he did), I got chill bumps because he was my President. I was young and didn't know a lot about politics, but I adored him (and still do), and he still makes me smile. <3 |

| Computer Blatherings: Windows XP Question and A Love Letter to My Macbook |
[Aug. 27th, 2008|06:53 pm] |
So as of last night, the Macbook is in the shop getting a new inner casing, since the magnets were cracking the edges, and getting a new power cord outlet. :( I'm also going to have to buy a new battery soon as mine has 400 charge cycles o_O and is starting to noticeably degrade in capacity. I'm hoping to hold out till after London for that though, as it's still got about 60-90 minutes at full capacity as long as I'm not watching a video or something.
I'm using my old Dell whose untimely demise a little over a year ago was, ironically, the reason I bought the Macbook in the first place! I reformatted it with XP a while back, and have since kept it plugged into my TV as a way to pull media over the network from the external hard drive and watch it on the TV screen. It's been very nice, and I'm glad it's still useful to me in that way.
So, because of all of that? I've had the absolute BARE MINIMUM installed on the Dell. Since the kind people at the Apple store told me with a handwave that it might be "a few days" till I get the Macbook back, I've started to spiff it up again, especially as it's possible that I might be lugging it to Dragon*Con with me.
So far I've updated iTunes and Firefox, installed Open Office for documents/spreadsheets and Thunderbird for email. And of course, I've made sure my del.icio.us and Tab Mix Plus extensions on Firefox are primed and loaded. I didn't realize how much I rely on those two extensions until I didn't have them! O_O
The point to all this blabber (and I do have one, I swear), is that:
1) OMG I MISS MY MACBOOK. LIKE CRAZY. I use a PC at work, but that's a whole different experience. I need a PC for work, but my Macbook is for everything else, and I didn't realize how much I had come to think that way until now.
2) Is there a multi-protocol IM client that I can download that handles YM, AIM, MSN and Google Talk? Because NONE of them seem to handle Google Talk. And having 578937498734839 IM clients open after using Adium? Is driving me CRAZY OMG. I mean, this is not a huge deal, but I'm really just more curious than anything at this point.
I'm a spoiled brat I know... boo fucking hoo, baby doesn't have her Macbook, so she's using her old Dell. Cry me a river, etc. :)) I mainly didn't realize how entrenched the Macbook had become in my heart. <3 |
