PostSecret is an ongoing community art project where people mail in their secrets anonymously on one side of a postcard.

-----Email Message----- Sent: Sunday, October 12, 2008 3:29 PM Subject: elevator secret
I take the elevator because I'm afraid of being assaulted in stairwells

-----Email Message----- Sent: Sunday, October 12, 2008 2:16 PM Subject: ~~ the rich life
I hope you'll find riches in your life, without the money.

Dear Frank,
I had been looking forward to the opportunity to hear you speak for a few years now. My new friend and I were at the front doors to the art center, just about to walk in, when I received a phone call from my babysitter...she needed me to come home right away.
Upon returning home, the gentleman that accompanied me to the event suggested we sit down and share our own secrets with each other. I proceeded to grab a notebook and we each had our own pen. Three secrets each were shared.
It ended up being the most incredible evening as we elaborated on our secrets, exposed our soft underbellies, and neither of us ran away - as we all fear will happen when we expose such intimate parts of ourselves.
You be well, too...
Sincerely, Kristen

| Doing My Best to Make Some Sense of Senseless |
[Saturday, October the 11th, at 09:48pm] |
I am just a man that knows how to feel. I am a man who related alot to things John Nolan was saying in some stupid interview I read. He was explaining that pretty much all of the songs on the latest Straylight ep stemmed from his realization that he could not make a significant change in the world, that clarity was elusive, that at 30 he had not found any answers yet. It was cool on one level because I felt like I understood in a big way and could appreciate the art even more, but it's distressing because I feel like that now, of course, and I don't want that to be the prevailing current in my life in ten years. I'm hoping that by 30 something will start making sense, I'll have accomplished something, I'll have some kind of peace. But he sounded pretty far from that, and I have no reason to reckon that I'm any better a man than him.
Also, I can't think of any melodies. They all hurt my ears, or sound forced. Unlike before, I think I have a clue what I'm "supposed" to write, but I'm pretty sure I just suck and all my songs are garbage. I'm learning that this is because my conception of what is good is apparently way off from the normal one, which is illustrative of my problem with everything in life.
Good grief. Here's hoping my ear gets lost in the mail. |

I forgot I drew this like.. two weeks ago. Ah haha..;; I slapped some black and grays on it and crappily used the pencil tool out of laziness just now. So uh. Yeah. (I really don't like the brush tool for some reason gjrhjtkhjkrehkjter)

Three characters from comic..thing. None of them have names yet and they look younger here than they are. hfjghhfjkgfd It was the first drawing I did of them, so it's kind of prelim to how I draw them now, so I guess it's okay. :[ (There was originally going to be a fourth guy, but he was out of place and there was no reason for him to be with them, so he got removed from the equation). And there are so many things and FUHDUETREJKJGFD *Headdesk*
Blah blah blah, hope I'll actually get some of this thing done. |

| last.fm, Increased Limits, Feedback Request, and India Travels |
[Thursday, October the 9th, at 04:00pm] |
Last.fm in Journal Entries
Are you a last.fm user? The updated Music field on the Post an Entry page can now automatically fill in what you're listening to when you write the post. To enable this feature, fill in your last.fm username in the field under Contact Info on the Edit Profile page. This also adds a link to your last.fm profile on your LiveJournal Profile page. Then download the scrobbler client from last.fm. When it's installed, just click the Detect button by the Music field on the Post an Entry page and the scrobbler automatically pulls through the track information of what you're listening to on your music player or music program.
You can also use the feature without downloading the scrobbler client. If you're logged in and listening to last.fm over the Internet, click Detect to pull through the artist and title of the track playing. If the song changes while you're writing your entry, just click Detect again to update the Music field.
And for more musical accompaniment, last.fm also has a widget you can embed in your profile or a journal entry that displays what you're listening to in real time.
Increased Limits for Poll Results and Comments
Back in August we promised an increase in limits for poll results and comments. And now they're here. You can now view more than 2000 votes in the detailed view of poll results, and the limit for comments allowed for a post has been raised to 10,000, up from 5000. After the first 5000 comments, every comment will require a CAPTCHA.
Feedback Request on New Find Your Friends Feature
We're working on an optional feature that will make it easier for you to find out if existing friends in your web-based email contacts are LJ users. Once you find them, you'll be able to quickly add their journals to your Friends page. We know your privacy is very important to you, so we're interested in getting your feedback about this new feature. A full description, including the proposed privacy settings, is available in feedback. Let us know what you think.
India Travels Community
Have you explored the subcontinent? From the heights of the Himalayas to the beaches of Kerala, India is so vast and varied that you'll discover something new wherever you go, no matter how many people have been there before. We've partnered with travel writer Ajay Jain of Kunzum to create a community where you can share your stories, anecdotes, and tips about traveling in India. What was the most amazing thing you saw? Where did you go that can't be found with a Google search? Where do you want to go next? Selected entries will be considered for publication (with full credit, and only if you give permission) in travel books about India. So whether you've been to India, want to go to India, or aspire to write about India, you should take a trip over to india_travels.
And More
There's lots of other stuff going on, too. See lj_releases to get all the details. |

| Finding Your Friends |
[Thursday, October the 9th, at 05:49pm] |
Coming Soon: The Find Your Friends Feature!
LiveJournal users love the way their Friends page serves as a single location for all the latest updates from the people they care about. For new users, however, it can be hard to find people to add to their Friends page because they don’t know anyone on LiveJournal yet. Often they have friends already using LiveJournal but don’t know they're here or how to find them.
We're working on a new Find Your Friends feature that will make it easier for new users to find existing friends using their web-based email contacts list. Once found, they'll be able to quickly add those journals to their Friends page or send a note telling the person about their new journal. Note that only logged-in users will be able to use this feature.
However, we know that your privacy is important to you -- not all users want to be found, even by people they already know in "the real world" (sometimes especially by people they already know in the real world). So we're working to ensure that this feature provides a variety of security settings to reflect the various ways in which someone would want or not want to be found.
( The way email searching currently works )
The Find Your Friends feature will search your web-based email contacts to see if there are any matches on LiveJournal. With the new tool, we're divorcing the concepts of searchability and visibility. You will be able to have your email address searchable without actually displaying it anywhere on LiveJournal, or you can choose to display your email address without it being searchable by the Find Your Friends feature.
We're asking for your thoughts and feedback to help ensure the available settings for this feature have the level of privacy that you want.
The new setting will be "Allow others to find me by searching for my email address:" and it will have these options:
- Yes -- show my username in the search results
- Yes -- but don't show my username in the search results. Only show my email address and allow users to send me a notification about their new journal. I can then choose to add them as a Friend if/when I want to.
- No -- don't allow my email address to be searchable.
For new users, their email address will be searchable and their username shown through this feature until they make a selection otherwise - but during the signup process (specifically, the Find Your Friends portion) the option will be presented and explained. Existing users will be presented with an opt-in page after the feature is launched so they can make the specific choice that best fits their personal preference. If no choice is made, existing users will have the option defaulted to "No."
Please comment to ask questions or suggest ways in which this feature could be improved -- we want to ensure that your privacy is protected while making this feature as useful as possible. Thank you! |

| ecru - flexible command-line livejournal client for *nix |
[Thursday, October the 9th, at 09:49pm] |
Hello, I'm writing a new command-line client for LiveJournal. There are no so much command-lines client for livejournal, the only one I'm aware of is clive. My client is somewhat similar to clive (i.e. it uses $EDITOR for typing posts, supports 'header' like options setting and can work in non-interactive mode (i.e. read stuff via args and from stdin). However, it has a bit different philosophy behind it. So here's the main points:

For the past few days (at least since wednesday) I had been running on nothing but 10 hours of sleep because I couldn't get myself to go to bed before 2 and I was waking up at 6, and then saturday night woke up early to get ready to go to UMBC. I guess it finally caught up with me last night and I fell asleep after Heroes, got woken up at 11 to put a pot in the fridge for mum, and then went to bed and have only just woken up.
My head is made of hurt. D:
I'm kind of loving Heroes again.
( Read more... ) That's all I can think of to write. I had more thoughts last night, but was too tired. Blah. Now I need to go eat something or something. jhgjhfjghjkr

well since everyone else is doing the whole "fuck my life" theme.
having ryan makes everything great like im sure i'd be saying the same things because every other part of my life other than him, is going pretty horribly. im certainly failing 1 of my classes, and the highest grade i have is a B. i hate my job, everythings getting shitttttier, just when we thought it couldn't. but everything seems fine, great even. like i can be comfortable with him, even when ive been sick in bed all day and we can just take a nap until midnight!
but shiiit i am still sick and i still dont want to go to school, so far ive skipped one class. |

I wish people were better. More focused. Nicer. Quicker to think- not so caught up in pointless distractions SMARTER! I like being eager to relate to people but I wish they were more able to relate to me. |
