| New Books in Old Covers: Lily of the Valley II |
[Sep. 4th, 2008|04:07 pm] |
I found another copy! You can see the first try here.

This one has a bookmark!

And paste-paper endpapers I did myself.
In honor of the fact that this is way better than the first one, you can buy it here.
Oh, and I gave the old textblock a new cardstock cover and gave it to the local library book sale:

being home from tour is always so weird.
I'm watching the extended version of fellowship of the ring instead of attempting to be social. making plans is hard. |

Dear Journal,
It has been almost five days without power. The short version is that I didn't pay my bill, the long version absolves me of irresponsibility. Because this event comes without the stress of a natural disaster or a medical requirement of electricity, it has given me the opportunity to become in touch with the rotation of the earth.
It has been almost five months since I have returned from South America. Only recently have I began the process of idealizing the events that occurred during this time. Yeah! We did stop at the corner store for alfajores and directions while biking through northern Patagonia. Yeah! We did have a ridiculous taxi driver from the bus station back to Lima. Yeah! I did access ancient I their Inca ruins through the most terrifying roads I've ever seen. Yeah! I did do all those things that make me feel like I did something! But I hope that my kids still get the jaded version of the story, so that they don't waste time in another country.
It has been only a short time since I've felt like my life has become repetitive and usual; since I felt like I was underpaid. It has been only a short time since I felt like I can do anything I want; that I am almost dead; that I am hardly born. It has been only a short time since I missed someone who doesn't exist. It has been only a short time since I felt completely at peace and completely in conflict about everything in my life... . Tell me this isn't the habitual thought process of an average twenty-somethings person. (Although I know it is). amyb |

| Rough Book |
[Aug. 31st, 2008|11:08 pm] |
A week ago I acquired some rough paper which was also quite pliable. Suitable, I thought, for an artist to draw on or a poet to write on. But I had no idea how to put it in a book. Then I bought some very fibrous - you see the individual strings - paper. I backed the paper with some yellow paper (also rough) and set about my tasks.
This book is very fun to touch; it is one tactile book.
Here is the front.
The very rough and red front with yellow backing (like endpapers.)
Here it is open and you can see the leaves and stems on the paper. Reminds me of growing up in the 60s. Except I don't remember the 60s. (I was there; just don't remember.)
 I need a calligrapher.
And here you can see the roughness of the pages (torn, almost). There are 28 pages (seven signatures of one folio each. Yes, one piece of paper folded once and I bound it with coptic binding.)

I hope you enjoy the shots. Thank you. |

| Some of my books |
[Aug. 29th, 2008|07:49 pm] |
I've been watching this community for years now, but I'm sorry to say I haven't been a very active member. I do, however, want to show off some of my most recent work. The easiest way is to show you these etsy images--hope that this is allowed. I would be more than happy to just post the pictures if you don't want to see the shop; just let me know. Enjoy!

| Waxing thread |
[Aug. 27th, 2008|03:27 pm] |
Do any of you wax your own thread?
I bought a small cake of Quilter's Beeswax at Michael's and I'm using pearl cotton thread because I like the colors. The wax was alright the first few times, and I've heated it up and re-shaped it, but is there an easier way to do this? I was wondering if any of you had tried melting some beeswax and dipping your threads.
I've had a thought that if I used a silicon potholder, I could throw the bits of extra wax back into the melted wax and then re-use it.
For those of you who have tried this, can you keep reusing beeswax in that manner? And am I just talking crazy with this idea?
Thanks for your help. |
