Is it ok, in the grand scheme of things, to admit that I very much enjoy Jamba Juice, or is it in the same vein as Starbucks-- those who appreciated the smoothie stands of yore will shun your poor taste and selling out to the (smoothie) man?

Uhm. My German midterm went terribly. I can't call up words like "allegiance" and "ornate" off the top of my head, and I don't know any other words to use while discussing things like the feudal system and Baroque art. I hate being at the stage of a language where I understand more or less everything I heard/read, but I sound developmentally disabled when I speak.

I need to figure out how to order someone's dissertation from the University of Kansas. I think B. is laughing at me.

I feel slightly better than a few days ago, if you are interested. At least I don't want to cry. I can't afford to get depressed now, though, I have work to do. The one and only good thing (for me) about Laurie being in London is that it gives me more time to work, sleep, and work.

School is foremost in my mind at the moment. I just officially declared my major (history, duh) and it turns out I've actually fulfilled most of the requirements already. That's cool, but I may take more history classes anyway because a)I love it and b)it will look better if I can get some better grades. I decided on a German minor, and I only have to take one more class for that, too.

I am going to be looking into study abroad possibilities. My only two desired destinations are really Germany or London. It does seem like a possibility, but I have to get my grades up; no more slacking. I just don't get the people who talk about how much they slack and never do work but they still somehow get As... I think they are just dramatic. At least I put hard work into the work I *do* do. (Heheh, doodoo).

My term paper for Roman Empire is on Elagabalus and his promotion of the cult of the sun god. My term paper for Children's Literature is on Jo March (Little Women) as "New Woman" or something like that I have an oral presentation on Ludwig II. for German class. This weekend I'll be studying for German and History of the Middle East midterms. I'm really very sorry I took that class; the teacher is simply not making it interesting, she is obviously biased, and I think it will just turn into another B on my transcript. I find it really hard to put work into that class. Also to do my German homework but I have *never* been able to do daily homework. I'm just not built for it.

I'm probably not going to be anything/do anything for Halloween (second year in a row). I love dressing up, though...

Now you have reached the end. Your reward for reading my ramblings is NOTHING.

Fuck professors who make you buy more than two textbooks or $60 worth of books for their SURVEY CLASS. Half the people in this class are not in your department. Three quarters of the class don't care about the subject. And the rest still don't want to spend their life's savings on THREE different books of primary sources.

(P.S. My specialized, 300-level seminar required less books than this class.)

(P.P.S. $40 course packet? I'm not down with that.)

There is a brass band composed of somewhat thuggish looking black guys who always play in the subway at Union Square. It must be several years now. They use instruments that are all dented, tarnished, and duct taped. Today I walked by and all their instruments looked almost new. They must be doing well.

The first 15 people to comment on this post get to request a sketch of a subject/character of their choosing from me. (I'll do it here at work on a daily calendar page) In return, they have to post this in their journal (you don't have to.. but I'd be interested in the artists I know doing it too). Post all fandoms you're willing to draw for.

I will more likely do it on reading room sign in sheets!

Anyway, if you know me, you know what fandoms I'll draw, and you don't have to request a fandom really, it can be anything.

Finished DH in approximately 9 hours (straight)... Remained spoiler free. Go me!

The weekend was wonderful, because of course aside from Harry Potter, there was Laurie, many hours of Zolushka, and Pims.

Midnight Party photos to come, if you deserve them.

Sorry I haven't been keeping you, my dearest friends page, updated, but honestly there isn't much to report! I haven't worked so hard in my life. It's like a high school day, but I didn't do work in high school! I stopped keeping that journal after about four days, haha... I was lonely and a little depressed for those days, I guess is why. It's been raining on and off every day since I got here, even some hail. This morning was frigid, but right now it's very pleasant... I give it an hour.

I feel like I've been missing so much in NY! Though I am now having lots of fun here, I miss my friends and fun things to do in the evening and (most of all) my clothes! I think four weeks is a pretty good amount of time. I can learn the city very well, see most of the museums and etc that it has to offer, and not yet pass into the "OH GOD THERE IS NOTHING TO DO HERE" phase.

I went to Marburg last weekend, which is much prettier than Kassel, and took lots of pictures. Unfortunately I can't do anything with them until I get home!

Miss you all lots! Leave me love and souvenier requests (that you will get in your wildest dreams :P).

I'm in the computer lab at the Dialog Institut... I have just discovered it. :B It's still not as good as having wireless, but it's way better than nothing. And since I have to wake up at 6:45 to get to the school by 8:30, it's probably better that I don't have internet at the house. I need my eight hours, damnit!

I haven't been taking many pictures... I don't really know what to take. I should start bringing my camera with me in case I see something interesting, but other than that I guess I'll just take pictures of the house, the main points of interest in Kassel, and the museums I go to... Well, if there's anything in Kassel, Lohfelden, or Marburg that you want to see, just let me know!

My eating habits are driving my hose family nuts. I don't exactly eat like a typical German. There is a lot of pressure on me to eat! Plus they serve mainly bread, cheese, and lunchmeat for both breakfast and dinner, and I'm not a big fan... Since she found out that I like tomatoes, my host mother has been giving me a whole tomato with my meals! XD Add that to running around until I'm practically fainting with the kids, and I'll be about 10 pounds lighter when I get back.

I wish I had something more interesting to share... Despite being in a foreign country, life is pretty much quiet and routine. I'm having some regrets about not planning a trip after this, to Berlin or anywhere else for a few days, but... Well, though with all the money my dad gave me before I left, I could probably afford it, but I don't know if he would have paid for the plane fare from somewhere else. (Probably somewhere more expensive). Ah well.

I'm totally worn out from my trip, even after a full night's sleep. The school is not a lot of work, but I have to get up early!

My host family is really nice, and pretty German (sandals and socks). I don't have regular internet access right now, but I'm looking desperately.

I would love to get a friendly email in English. And if you have my cell number, you can call me, but keep in mind I can only talk for about 30 seconds for the price per minute.

Iäm keeping a sort of journal, so even if I can't make regular updates, I'll post some of that for those interested.
