Bio

Evan’s father, Guillaume Rosier (Jr), was the only son in a rather large French wizard family. When it became time for him to start at school, the decision was made to send him to Hogwarts rather than Beauxbatons, due to the reputation that Beauxbatons boys had for being “soft”. Guillaume was sorted into Slytherin house and had a fine career at Hogwarts, being the right combination of intelligent, charming, and handsome to easily win favour amongst his classmates. He was a favourite of Horace Slughorn, and a proud member of the Slug Club. It was at Slug Club meetings that he first met and became acquainted with a young man named Tom Riddle. After graduating from Hogwarts, Guillaume got a job working in the international magical cooperation department at the ministry of magic. He married his first wife – a pretty daughter from a pureblooded wizard family – when he was very young, and imagined himself in love with her. As time went on, he grew tired of her, for she was very pretty but also not very interesting. They slept in separate bedrooms, and never had any children and when she died a handful of years later, Guillaume was curiously not very upset.

Guillaume met his second wife on a diplomatic trip to France. Her name was Mireille Desmoulins, and she was employed as a teacher at Beauxbatons Academy. She was easily won over by the charming handsome man (despite the fact that he was almost fifty and she was not even thirty); the two were married and Guillaume accepted a diplomatic post with the French ministry of magic so that they could live in France. Less than a year after they were married, Evan was born.

Evan was born late in December at his family home near Nantes, in Brittany, France. He was the first and only son of his parents, Guillaume and Mireille. As such, he was spoilt rotten. He grew up in the lap of luxury and was very well educated, having had private teachers from a very young age in subjects both academic and artistic. While he hated music lessons and dancing lessons, he took very well to almost everything academic; he read everything he could get his hands on, and was encouraged in his learning by his parents. Because he had in-home education instead of going off to school as a child, he didn’t have much socialization with children his own age – in truth, he began to think of himself more as a peer of his teachers and his parents rather than as someone younger and inferior to them. From the beginning he liked books and ideas better than people; this is something that hasn’t really changed, come to think of it. He learned to communicate in French first, sensible since he lived in France and that was the first language of both of his parents – but started English lessons very young as well. In short, his early childhood was the perfect breeding-ground for a young boy that would grow up to be an intellectual snob.

He put his foot down about moving to England and going to Hogwarts, but his parents insisted – his father had some sort of mysterious business calling him back to England, and his mother knew that he’d do better at Hogwarts than he would have done at Beauxbatons. Nevertheless, he was unhappy about it, and made no show of pretense that he was happy to be there on his arrival to Hogwarts. Despite his strong intellectual leanings, he was sorted Slytherin – thanks to both his own unwavering certainty in his own superiority and his smouldering ambitions to become a thinker and a revolutionary. (Being pureblooded didn’t hurt, either.) He won few friends in his early days at Hogwarts, given his own snobbishness, looking down his nose at things, declaring airly that he’d have been better off at Beauxbatons, and occasionally slipping into French just to show off.

Things haven’t changed much since then, really.
