I skimmed through the second half of THE BOOK.

Yeah, like probably a good half of the fandom, weak-willed little me has submitted herself to 1. all the chapter titles and 2. THE EPILOGUE SCANS OF DOOM. Oh and yeah I saw OOTP. I liked some of it (movie!Lucius fares much better than his canon counterpart in my mind, DE's are generally cooler, and much love for Kreacher!), loathed some other (poor Cho!!!), and eye-rolled at a great deal more (NO HARRY YOU ARE NOT A BAD PERSON! GRAWP, AWWWWWW, SO HARMLESS AND HERMIONE-LOVING, RIGHT YOU ARE!). But overall it has upped my anticipation for the final book, so it's all good :-)

... although I'd rather he be remembered more as Mr. DB from the next book onward ;-)
Oh, and, just wanna say how much I love the fact that his wand personality really does fit him! It's meant to be!

Since there are so many different versions flowing around, I don't know if this is 100% word-by-word, but it can't be too far off considering the source. So this is what Rowling has said about the rat-faced boy:

Rowling did hint that Harry's archrival, Draco Malfoy, who was supposed to commit the murder but failed at the last moment, has a chance at redemption. (Wow, wonder how/why the MTV guy got to this conclusion, though I am definitely not complaining here X-D)

This is yet another big emphasis on Rowling's part that Draco just wouldn't wouldn't wouldn't wouldn't have killed Dumbledore, and I am pretty sure she meant this as a good thing instead of Draco-is-just-too-cowardly/pathetic/incompetent-to-finish-off-the-old-man.

But for Draco's future, you'll have to wait and see.

...no not really, because for *anything*, even something as minor as the bloody point of Neville's penis-likepet plant we'll have to wait and see. HELLO?! But the point is, Rowling seems to be saying that Draco's future (he has one?!) is something that will take up enough space in the last book for those of us who give a shit to wait and see for. Riiiight? Well, maybe the whole deal is gonna be like, two sentences long. But regardless, this Draco fan here is v. excited right now X-D

Save for the occasional comments in some of your ljs, I might have been as good as dead to my corner of HP fandom. And to think, that exactly one year ago I was squeeing like I just won jackpot over the pleasant surprise that was Rowling wishing Draco Subhuman Malfoy happy birthday on her website, and that less than one year ago we were all feeling very pleased (huge understatement) and smug (also understatement) about having liked the "right" characters all along- right as in 'getting interesting developments or developments at all in HBP'.

... so what happened?

*ponders for 10 minutes and brain remains blank*

Fandom has not changed all that much really, Draco Malfoy to some is still a coward for not killing Dumbledore, criticizing Ginny Weasley and/or J.K. Rowling (in terms of backlash generated the two acts have a positive correlation approaching 1.00) still makes you a jealous, anti-canon wanker who's likely a Harry/Hermione shipper, and who definitely should just stop reading the books. The biggest difference is that now with the possible exception of certain folks over in FW most people seem to opt for telepathic debate. Like this:

Random person X: Stupid comment that either got snitched or linked to for my entertainment.
Moi: *rolls eyes* *tells the person to shut up and get a brain replacement, in my head*
Random person X: No you shut up.
Moi: Oh you heard?

Okay so I didn't exactly get a feedback from random person X, but they should always be wary of adversaries who are too damn lazy to even lift their f'king fingers. Er.

Anyway, I was mighty pleased with myself last night when I painstakingly printscreened and saved 'Happy Birthday' and 'Draco Malfoy' from Rowling's website. Yes, I am definitely still insane :-D

Been re-reading Pride and Prejudice. Since the last time I read it was years before my Slash Boom, I hadn't realized at that time what a cute couple Darcy would've made with Bingley :-P Saw Brokeback mountain awhile ago... I had a lot to say about it after I came out of the theater, but am not in the mood to talk seriously at the moment (my serious moods seldom last longer than 10 minutes, oh the shallowness!) I have collected some very, very hilarious anti-BB articles though, shall have fun laughing at them in my next post ;-P

This crazy little thread in HPFGU, on top of confirming my suspicion that folks there don't necessarily debate any more sensibly than those in any other forum (I mean, Dudley's "fat, ugly face"??? Come on!!!), also got me thinking about the way 'comeupance' seems to work in Rowling's universe.

Prior to HBP, I'd often thought that Rowling's well-known "dislike" for Draco, and her seeming slight "irritation" for this character's having a sizable fanclub was unwarranted and really quite puzzling. I mean, she never voiced her concern for the *real* "sexy bad boys" whose RL counterparts would cause the female population a lot of grief gaining legions of fangirls- Sirius Black and (to a lesser extent) James Potter, I am looking at you. And as for having fans despite being a meanie to Harry? Severus Snape certainly beats Draco in that department.

I would always remember year 2005 as a series of personal crisis, of happenings that should so get written into the script of one really sinister TV drama show. The last week of the year surely has lived up to the high disastrous standard of its 51 predecessors, it drove me to a point where people learnt to speak to me from at least 6 feet away (so they could run when I began to bark and show tendency to bodily attack), but luckily it ended with a mission impossible sort of achieved, and me confessing having been a psychotic bitch because I freak under pressure to everyone who had the misfortune to work with me in the past few... er... months.

One of the auditors we hired, bless her, her lips would actually tremble (from anger? from fear?) when she had to ask me to provide documents or answer her questions. I swear I am not being overdramatic when I say people at my workplace consider me a complete monster who deserves to die from twelve thousand paper cuts.

But I've seen the error of my ways. No really! My new year resolutions include to take a deep breath and smile (however ugly the smile would be) whenever the desire to yell, bite, be otherwisely unpleasant arises. And if I shall fail again, I ask you to please consider forms of execution other than via paper cuts. They are purely inhumane, even when applied to someone like me.

So the past two months I was supposed to live in semi-seclusion studying hard for the darn CFA exam (which, went *horrible*, by the way), resisting such temptations as fandom, internet or basically anything at all entertaining- but turned out the ONLY sarcrifice I actually made was seeing GOF two weeks after the whole planet had seen it ^^;;; I've however come to the sad realization, that I'm pretty much labeled "the crazy HP woman" by human beings around me.

Me: 18th, this Friday.
Co-worker K: Tell me if the Harry Potter movie is good next Monday then.
Me: Well you know about that test I'm taking, I haven't even gone through one third of the material once by now, so I won't go see the movie until after the test...

So I saw the thing last night, WOW. Though typical of a Japanese anime, Advent Children was packed with trite, pretentious dialogues and trite, pretentious themes; the breath-takingly beautiful CG, Cloud, Sephiroth and various likeable minor characters more than made up for it! Now I know close to *nothing* about Final Fantasy VII settings, so I am bound to say something incredibly STUPID in my rampage below to those of you who have played the game, so watch out :D

( Somehow a story completely unrelated to HP made me fully realize why Ginny Weasley sucks so bloody much, etc... )

No grand new discovery whatsoever, it's just that I've been brooding over the trip into the Forbidden Forest, and the Trio's attempt to get to the sorcerer's stone in PS/SS. Since I would expect book 7 to reflect book 1 'structurally', what I can foresee happening in book 7 are:

I stopped at 7 since it's a good number. Not tagging anyone, because I'm actually curious about what the whole f-list will say about their own random personal facts :D

Interestingly, while Draco has done a lot of things in HBP that objectively deserve much cursing, it was his face-stomping Harry that made him so very unforgivable in many's eyes (probably because he neither cried over nor was punished, or looked like will *ever* be punished for it).

But of course I wasn't the only one who cheered at that scene, and not out of blind love for Draco or even more blind hate for Harry. I cheered because really, Harry had it coming a long time and in a way, he had deserved it.

Reading too many a post by the Guns'n'Handcuffs people had got me thinking: Were the so-called H/D subtext (otherwisely known as text that can easily be taken out of context) purely unintentional?

It's unlikely Rowling is blissfully unaware of the barely underground empire that is slash, especially H/D fandom, what with Cassandra Claire's Draco Trilogy and Rhysenn's Irresistible Poison making news. Even in my post-OOTP-OMGisDracodoomedtoremainHogwartswalkingpunchbag?!!! state of mind I took notice of the Snarry-ness, and I didn't (still don't) ship Snarry! Of course, in OOTP Harry's official love interest was still Cho, and in HBP that role was taken over by Ginny, these alone theoretically should have shut the slashers up, and it is possible that (assuming Rowling is both aware of and does not want to encourage slashers) Rowling reasonably believes by having Harry bluntly snogging a *girl* all thoughts of him having romantic feelings toward another *male* would be dispelled.

I did see a few posts by ex-slashers admitting their defeat upon the undeniable establishment of H/G in canon, but they are most definitely of minority. Most of the canon-fodder-seeking H/Ders (the pure fanon folks truly can be stopped by NOTHING) seem to treat H/G as a) A necessary prelude to the epic that is H/D (most likely in a post-year-seven setting) or b) A necessary obstacle for H/D to eventually overcome or most simply c) Hadn't they broken up anyway?? It also seems that H/D shippers do not normally believe in monogamy, with some of them advocating Harry's having feelings for Draco (he just hasn't realized it yet) even when he's dating Ginny, and others already plotting fics in which Harry cheats on wife!Ginny with Draco after the series has come to an end.

Due to certain unforseen, er, complications the two-week trip turned out to be a three-week one, and although said complications were unwelcome, the extra week I stayed in Auckland wasn't half bad at all :-) Offline friends who've been delightful companies and great support during the little advanture, who read this LJ- I shall stay in touch *this time* (sounds familiar? I have no clue why!), and I really really love you all so much *huggles*

LJ friends- I resent thee for having broken thy promises to make thyselves boring during my absence \_/ But to certain individual who alleged to have ditched HP for QAF (you know who you are), you'll be back, take it from someone who has cheated on HP with so many other obsessions she thought would've overthrown Teh HP for good but all turned out to be passionate but brief affairs. It's not the source material that possesses such staying power of attraction, it's the fandom ;-P

So I was skimming through HPFGU again and was reminded of this rather odd tendency for some people to compare one character's "goodness" or ethics with that of another's, and often end their posts with "and that is the defining difference between character A and B (and why he or she adores A but loathes B).

Now, while it's not my concern if everyone likes who I like (I prefer my favorite characters to not have an universal popularity, it makes me feel like a boring commoner :P), it puzzles me when people think one's goodness/ethics can be compared with that of another in a crude, apple-to-apple manner. Harry, is one of their favorite example of how people can turn out decent/noble despite of nasty childhood experiences that we villain apoligists use as 'excuses' for the foul behaviors of such characters as Snape and Tom Riddle. While Sirius an ample proof Draco could not blame his genes and upbringing for being an evil twerp that he is.

On Hiatus.

I'll be traveling in New Zealand & Australia for the coming two weeks, doubt I'll get to use the internet much so, bye guys!

There were tons of stuffs I meant to rave about but didn't manage to, most of them concerning a certain boy whose name starts with a D and ends with an O ;-) I even wrote a few pages in longhand lest I forget about what were raving in my head. (Pauses, scans the note, OMG they are total rubbish!!! *headscreen*) And I know you lot have this unfortunate tendency to celebrate my absence with interesting posts, but I shall nevertheless beg in vain: Be a darling and try being as boring as possible while I am away? Please ;-)??

Hahahahahaha!!! I have absolutely nothing against Ron or H/R shippers, I swear, but you'd think that when a person has sexual/romantic feelings for another they'd have either described the other's physique if not in the most positive light then at least in detail, so what does it say when Harry did not even think about the color of Ron's eyes for once in six books? Yeah yeah yeah Ron's the person Harry will miss the most, but corrupted slasher I may be, I still believe in (almost)pure friendship ;-D

Now. Why is it that Harry has not bothered to tell us even once his best friend's eye color, yet we have been informed the sleek blond hair, cold grey eyes, very pale face and pink tinged cheeks of a certain enemy of his numerous times? I mean especially the sleek hair bit? Is it something highly important to note about a hateful bastard one has only the deepest loathing for ;-P?

So now Ginny= pretty much the pre-HBP Draco with female bits and without reasonable justifications for her biotchiness has become sort of a popular view. Well, I feel somewhat smug for having pointed that out in adela711's lj before I even finished the book ;-) Unlike the rest of the not!Ginny-fan!fandom though, I am not harboring a deep loathing for Ginny at the moment. Because how can you take her seriously after reading JKR's over-the-top hilarious comments about this little girl? I was practically rolling on the floor howling with laughter when I got to the warm and compassionate part. Um, dearest Jo, talking about being delusional? But I'm still hopeful- heck even Hagrid kind of redeemed himself in my eyes by *finally* failing to guilt-trip the trio/having zero NEWT student in his class because it's now an indesputable fact he's a lousy teacher- maybe Rowling will do the right thing and give Ginny a grand total of one paragraph of mentioning (that does not contain "marrying", "Harry", "children" and/or "happily ever after") in book 7? Though I have to say Rowling's "you'll see more of that (Ginny's excellent hexing skills)" was somewhat unnerving.
