Ok, so it seems several of my coworkers aren't going to see War of the Worlds because Tom Cruise is insane. Is anyone else 'boycotting' the movie because of his antics? I probably will see it, but it's already tainted...

Me.

He's bonkers, and the more I see of him everywhere, the less I want to see the movie. Unless he's torn to shred by the aliens. Then I'll watch.

Well, I'll let ya know if he does get torn to shreds by the evil Xenu...oh wait, that's *real* life, not the movie...

I'm so getting a Mel Gibson feeling, where everything he's done will be tainted by his wacked out beliefs and insistence on forcing them on everyone...

Bah. If you're gonna boycott movies because there are insane people in them, you'll never see another movie.

Good point. I wouldn't so much boycott it as just wouldn't enjoy it as much...

Except, well, I made a conscious decision to never see The Passion. Partly because Mel went nuts and partly because the topic doesn't interest me.

Mel is nuts, but he's still a good actor. I didn't see the Passion but I wanted to because it looked so cool, and they speak a dead language - I would be really into that!

I'd see the movie, but the man has gone completely bonkers. He now thinks he's qualified to speak about psychological issues. *rolls eyes* The man is a raving lunatic of late. He's sounding like a cult leader spewing cult doctrine. He reminds me of a puppet. Someone pulls the strings and he says what they feed him.

What's more scary is that the guy actually believes what he's saying.

Yeah, he has a high school degree and now he's an educated expert on psychiatry and psychology.

But yes, nothing more scary than a nut with a cause he believes in.

It's like crowbow1 said.

So I am doing the opposite here: avoid all interviews, change channel whenever he appears etc. - works pretty fine.

Cruise has been a member of that sect since like forever, no wonder he had to turn to the dark side one day. Have you read one of Hubbard's books? Ugh.

I've never read one of his books, but I've heard they're crap.

And yeah, I read today that Tom got his sisters and mom to 'convert', and that every movie set he's on, he sets up a 'Scientology tent' so the cast and crew can learn about it. Yay...I'd love to work with him.

What Would Xenu Do??

Yeah and he recently fired his publicist and gave the job to his fellow thrall sister. See the results... I know I should cut someone's work loose from their personality, but sometimes it's hard. Mel and Tom would be two examples of that. Can you say 'off the deep end'??

I bet Spielberg is groaning every time Tom goes off again. Of course WotW is a big ass Spielberg summer blockbuster, so I doubt it will tank. But I've heard of so many people that plan on 'boycotting' the flic because of Tom 'Basketcase' Cruise that I really wonder how much it's going to hurt, and what would (or is going to) happen to a Tom Cruise movie that is more low key than this. I think Tom's antics are really gonna hurt him in the long run.

Ah well, to quote his new Geisha Katie: "It's like.....wow!"

Indeed Katie, indeed......;-)
