Home Away From Home
Ask a stupid question.....okay fine, I'll answer it.
I would say that my current position in space is the furthest away from the place of my birth; I can't actually recall being this far away before. I purposefully put some distance between myself and home but never this much. Every jump takes me that much further away from the planet I used to call home but the planet is no longer ...hospitable.
I had no choice in arriving here; I had no choice on the jumps. None of us did. The Cylons made sure to take that choice away from us. They forced us from our homes and have chased us across time and space all in the pursuit of our annihilation.
We're still running and we're still jumping in the attempt to preserve the small shred of humanity that we have left. We were once billions but now we're nothing more than a few thousand. Those thousands have suddenly become the most important life in this Universe.
We have to survive because if we don't, humanity will cease to exist and I for one am not willing to allow that so we keep jumping and we keep distancing ourselves from the familiar stars that we once used to navigate our way home.
Maybe I'll return home and maybe I won't but there's an old saying: 'Home is where the heart is.' And mine is right here with the rest of humanity and even though I have none of the familiar sights that I would have had back home, I'm alive and frankly it's a lot better than what happened to most people.
We take each new day as it comes and we don't look back.
