I was going to go to Lawrence to see the Dentmobile today, and POST PICS when I got home. But they went and cancelled those dates and are going to St. Louis instead.

so now what am I to do on my holiday off?

I passed my geek initiation recently... )
yea, that is pretty pic heavy.

Oh, and Kiel got us hooked on Guitar Hero and Rock Band. who wants to buy it for us? doesn't matter which system, as long as its not the Wii one.

hope everyone enjoyed their fourth.

went and saw Transformers on Jon's dime. Thank you again, even if you succeeded in aggravating me. It was an enjoyable, entertaining* commercial. A commercial for toys, the armed forces, but mostly -- Chevy and GM.

The dialogue was embarrassingly corny. Yes, I thought the Spider-Man 3 corny dialogue was apropos for the film, but this was far beyond that point. Some got laughs, most got face-palms and groans. The "hot chick" wasn't that hot-- and was appropriately accused of wearing a training bra. The "sexy brainy tech chick" had to have back up from the comic relief of movies like "Romeo Must Die," "Cradle 2 The Grave," "The Bernie Mac Show," and others that make you say "it's that guy!" Even the Transformers were subject to portraying bad stereotypes.
Bay couldn't get camera work correct if his life depended on it. Either it was too shaky, excessive on the slo-mo, moving for no apparent reasons, or focusing on the wrong area. I was actually slightly interested in seeing an impressive cg display of "giant fucking robots" beating the shit out of each other, but the attention would constantly shift away from the combat scenes to the point of aggravation. 90% of the "big battle" occurred off screen or in the background.

The biggest part of the movie, I felt, was a trailer. An unnamed JJ Abrams trailer of a home video of a friends going away party that gets interrupted by some sort of disastrous event that sends the head of the Statue of Liberty flying. Interweb sleuthing finds that its called Cloverfield, and its an apparent monster flick also code named "The Parasite." The trailer can be viewed here at least until it gets pulled off by the movie execs.

Good summer action flick, I enjoyed Pirates 3 and Spider-Man 3 more though. So yea, this year I've seen the most movies in theatres, I think. And my favorite thus far would be Spider-Man 3 closely followed by Pirates: Worlds End. Hopefully I'll get my third shift and will be able to see more.

After that went to a barbecue at a friend, Shawn's. Lots of kids (Shawn himself claims 8 alone), lots of good food, fireworks, people, and good times.

This summer is flying by. I still need to enroll for my last semester at ACCC. Still no AC at the apartment, the City is involved, and we are waiting on the new a/c unit to get delivered and installed. At this rate, the summer will be over before its done. Not happy.

And by the way: 1 AM YOU CAN STOP WITH THE FIREWORKS. I could go a fourth without fireworks even. Wait, I have before.
the word of the day it seems was: anticlimactic.

*so was DOOM.

This happened at WALMART 1802 here in TOPEKA, KS.

Saturday night at work, while we were breaking down pallets, one associate, J, wasn't looking too well. Multiple times he was seen doubled over holding either his stomach or his chest.. then he'd move a few boxes, and would be grimacing in pain again. Our support manager for overnights (who is an hourly associate who aids management when there's a shortage -- basically a glorified peon) asked him if he was okay, told him to sit down and take a breather. He's quite obviously in a lot of pain and holding his chest. He does so. Apparently earlier in the night he was in the bathroom vomiting violently as well.
A few minutes later the Support asks him if he's up to working. J says no. The Support suggests he clocks out and goes to the hospital, which J does. Nowhere in this span of 30 minutes to an hour is the one assistant manager on duty to be found. When I asked the Support what he was doing during this time, he told me "taking care of other situations."
Later that night, Police found J in the parking lot of the hospital, still in his car, dead.

In sincerely believe if our assistant manager working at the time had done his FUCKING JOB, this kid, this 27 year old KID would still be alive. Let it be known that I didn't like J. He was a slow worker, a douche, and tried to instigate things then would back down when confronted. He deserved a pink slip, not this.
I'm going to issue a statement with some higher management in the store, and will go higher if I need to, but I do not want the Assistant in question to come out of this with no harm, no foul. This "manager's" negligence cost someone their LIFE. I don't believe the support did anything wrong, he handled it as best he could, the assistant should have been there, called an ambulance to the store, and had him checked out.

I can't believe this, even with WalMart. I'm really glad my wife and I are away from the company (tonight is my last night, and I don't even know if I want to work, knowing I'll have to deal with the manager in question.)

I wasn't planning on leaving the house. But I'm glad I did. Richard, Mike, Tommy, Ryan, and Emily. Wii Bowling, an EPIC game of Zombies (Tommy - where's your lj post?), a little bit o' Gears and DoA4. And Boxing to top it all off.

Met Ryan and Emily, some really rad peoples. It was a fun night, thank you TOMMY.

So Friday is my birthday, and I'm not looking forward to it. Can't remember the last time I had a good birthday, so I might as well keep the trend up.

In other news, I'm still alive.
