Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United could face exclusion from the Champions League - on the grounds that they hold excessive debt - under plans being drawn up by Uefa next week. The European game's governing body has set up a working group which will meet in Geneva on Monday to discuss how to extend its licensing system and restrict the levels of debt that clubs are permitted to operate with. Currently the financial stipulations in Uefa's system are limited to bans on clubs who have outstanding debts on transfer payments. It also states that staff should be paid on time. But the proposals being drawn up by Uefa's general secretary, David Taylor, and its president, Michel Platini, would see the system delve far deeper into the financial workings of clubs. "The ultimate sanction is not to be in our competitions," Taylor said yesterday. He explained that debts fixed against assets, for stadium building, are considered more acceptable than those run up in the acquisition of players or for takeovers. He confirmed that this would affect clubs such as last season's Champions League finalists, United and Chelsea, and one of the semi-finalists, Liverpool, unless they significantly reduced their debts.

Liverpool's Fernando Torres will be hoping such reports don't come to fruition after the striker said he dreams of helping Liverpool thrash United in Champions League final. Meanwhile, UEFA president Michel Platini claims English clubs under foreign ownership are in danger of losing their identities.
Rio Ferdinand looks set to captain England in their World Cup qualifiers against Kazakhstan and Belarus after John Terry suffered a back injury in training.
Ferdinand's United team-mate Gary Neville will soon be back in the England squad, according to brother and former Red Phil, who is also hoping for a recall. "I expect Garyto be back in for sure because he is the best right-back in England," he declared.
Edwin van der Sar insists his international comeback will only be for two games after he answered an SOS from Holland to play in the World Cup qualifiers against Iceland and Norway because of injuries to their other main goalkeepers.
Finally, The Times report that Steve Bruce has denied claims Wigan's Wilson Palacios is heading to Old Trafford.

Just some clips I put together of the 2002/2006 World Cup as well as other random games. There's also a good amount of Beckham clips because... he's pretty. Anyways I figured I'd share. If you have a YouTube account it would be cool if you commented and rated over there. :)
Has your opinion of him/his transfer changed now he has some goals/games under his belt?
All we know that story with the boot and Beckham and SAF. And why Beckham had to leave Man Utd.
Was there story with David and Giggsy??? When there was something wrong and many players were on Ryan's side. I don't know exactly what was happened.
...but this is my dad's cousin. Which makes him my second cousin I think.
Anyway here's the link:

Manchester United midfield duo Paul Scholes and Darren Fletcher have signed extensions to their contracts. Scholes's deal keeps the 33-year-old at the club until 2010 while Fletcher, 23, has committed himself to another three years until 2012.
"Paul is proof that if you look after yourself you can carry on playing and be rewarded at a club of this size," said United boss Sir Alex Ferguson.
"He's been here since he was 14. That tells you his desire and ability."
Scholes, who turns 34 in November, has just been ruled out for 10 weeks after suffering knee ligament damage in United's Champions League win over Danish side AaB. The former England international has made 576 appearances for the Old Trafford club since making his debut in September 1994.
He suffered a career-threatening eye injury which kept him sidelined for most of the 2005/6 season, but returned to play a central role in United's Premier League title wins in 2007 and 2008, as well as last season's Champions League triumph.
"It's great to sign a new deal, last season was fantastic but you always want to achieve more and with this team we are capable of doing just that," Scholes told United's official website.
Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney is expected to be fit for England's next two World Cup qualifiers.
Rooney, 22, injured his ankle during United's 3-0 Champions League victory away at Aalborg on Tuesday and was stretchered off during the second half.
He is a doubt for United's Premier League game against Blackburn on Saturday, but should be fit to take his place in Fabio Capello's England squad. They host Kazakhstan on 11 October and travel to Belarus four days later.
A United spokesman told the club's website: "Wayne has an ankle injury and is doubtful for Saturday, but he should recover in time for England's forthcoming matches."
United manager Sir Alex Ferguson will be relieved Rooney has not suffered ligament damage as he will already be without influential midfielder Paul Scholes for 10 weeks. Scholes, 33, damaged his medial knee ligaments in the same game and was stretchered off after only 16 minutes in Denmark.
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson fears Paul Scholes could be out for up to eight weeks with suspected medial knee ligament damage.
The 33-year-old midfielder limped off after just 16 minutes of United's 3-0 Champions League win over Aalborg.
"Paul Scholes could be out for a few weeks and we had one or two other injuries, so there is a cost to the win," said Ferguson.
Striker Wayne Rooney and full-back Rafael were also forced off injured. Rooney was replaced by Carlos Tevez just before the hour mark as a precaution after injuring his ankle and Ferguson was unsure as to the seriousness of the injury.
"He just felt it weaken as went for a ball, so we thought we'd take him off," added Ferguson
The loss of Scholes adds to United's worries in midfield as Michael Carrick is out for at least another month. The England midfielder was ruled out for six weeks after breaking a bone in his foot in the 2-1 defeat at Liverpool on 13 September.
There were some plus points for United, notably from Dimitar Berbatov who opened his account for the club with two second-half goals on his Champions League debut. The Bulgarian striker had failed to find the net in his first three games in a United shirt after a £30.75m summer switch from Tottenham and Ferguson was delighted with his contribution against Aalborg.
"He got two fantastic goals. That will help his confidence," he said.
"When you transfer for that amount of money you want to score your first goal quickly and he has got that now."
Berbatov added: "I knew it would come sooner of later, but of course the team winning was the most important thing and it was just another goal."
