When to start?
I am a history major and have recently decided to stay on for my master's. I have roughly a year/year and a half left on my bachelor's degree. If I decide to go through with the master's, I will just stay at my current school. I have a good relationship with the professors here and I think that will be to my benefit in the long run.

Since the process is new to me, I have a few questions to ask of people who've been down this road before. :)

- I know the head of the grad program and have taken a few classes from him in the past. Should I make an appointment to speak with him prior to applying? If so, when should I do that? This fall when I start my senior year or closer to the actual application time/graduation? Would contacting him for advice over email be acceptable or should I have a face to face meeting?

Thanks so much! :)

how much square footage does the Tardis have anyway?
i know it's got alot of closet space.

looked at a few houses tonight.  i'm glad we're looking, but it is kinda stressy.   hey is this somewhere you want to live, invest in, be stuck with, find faults with, pay taxes on, insure, sign contracts, sign mortgage papers, find out you hate your neighbors & it's not like there's a lease you know you can choose to get out of.  we could go into default because of, handle your own maintenence problems rather than make a snitty call to the apartment office?  of course, this is just looking at down sides.  there are good sides too.

 what makes everything better?...BattleStupid Galatidum.

Mexicoooooooooooooooooooo
Off work in 5 mins.
To [info]shenshen's to grab a giftie she brought me from Arizona (♥!).
Then to Airdrie to Wally World to pick up a couple of things, and then some MAD packing. I want a guidebook from Chapters too, cuz I gave my last one to the sister in law.

Tried the boy 3x this week. He didn't answer the first couple times, and answered today and has wicked food poisoning. He sounds it, and the fact that he answered the phone speaks volumes. That, and the fact that I'm incredibly unreachable at the mo, lead me to keep giving this thing a try. I suppose it's better than the 'see-all-the-time->>-be-taken-for-granted' routine that I usually go through.

Had a great chat with a guy off (no, really, wait for it...) MySpace yesterday. Great chemistry. Except he's married. YAR. It's apparently an open arrangement but I'd have to confirm that with her if I were ever to CONSIDER such a thing. We had a good conversation, in any case. and he's an ex-Mormon (as in, decidedly so, not like WaffleMe), so that lent to some common ground.

I'll have my own phone account back on the 26th unless it's INCREDIBLY expensive to fly home (and since it's standby, and WestJet, it shouldn't be). I'm kinda tempted by the LG Rumor, but I also have a friend from Bell bugging me to sign on with her. I might buy a Samsung Jack, or a Blackberry. That'll be my one little prezzie to myself after dealing with the leg and the job and all that other rigmarole.

Speaking of rigmarole... don't get me started on Sunlife claiming there's no service date on my ambulance bill. Dorksticks. It's right at the top of the freaking page. So I sent it back, kindly indicating to them that they will be responsible for any late charges if they choose to stall further.

And The Ghost Of TELUS Past haunts me still... they apparently can't tell one "attachment" form from another on the pension payout package. We'll see how long THAT takes, for my cheque to get to me.

The zoo yesterday was awesome, other than the lack of stingrays :( and I'm crispy fried in preparation for my trip. Perfect. :P

Lastly, I started my physio today, and I have my $5 Glorified Elastic Band ("theraband") that I'm using for strengthening exercises. I'm biking, doing leg presses and then specific ankle movement with the band. I'm back on the 26th there.

OKAY! I'm off like a... well, I'll leave that for [info]kennycreeper to fill in. He usually comes up with some great witticisms. I'm just not possessed of the energy. I'm saving it for tomorrow :D

Our new server.
Okay, we are getting a Dual Xeon 3GHZ with 3GB of 533MHZ RAM and 2 500GB Drives with a total of 5 IP addresses. It will have Centos 5 with Cpanel and Fantastico.

This server's info:
Renew Date:   May/31/2008 07:55:00
Expire Date:   Jun/02/2008 07:55:00

I should hopefully get the root access information for the new server, moo.cyborgcow.net, this evening. Since I ordered upgrades, I hope I don't have to wait until Monday.

I'll be moving my website first so if anything is not set up properly, it does not affect anyone else's. We'll all be moved soon, and everything will be faster =)

Friday Fivezzzzzzzz
What's your favourite TV network?
Do I have a favorite? Probably TLC. It's the first channel I gravitate to and I watch a METRIC TON of stuff on it.

If you could create your own channel, what would it be?
I'd take all the cool stuff from TLC, Food Network, W Network (yes, it has cool stuff, have you ever watched Color Confidential? or Style By Jury?) and Life Network and I'd call it La Crème. Or something.

What TV show did you watch as a child, that you wish they would bring back?
Ehh. TV shouldn't be that memorable, really. But they needed to stick with meat'n'potatoes Sesame Street. All these spinoffs and modernizations are horrible. I was so sad to see that they've gotten rid of the awesome pinball machine counting sequence :( in favor of this hip hoppy thing that doesn't NEARLY measure up.

What show have you always hated, and wonder why they ever made such a dumb show?
Almost any of the ridiculosity known as "reality TV". Granted I get into some of it, but what I do tend to watch has a tiny bit of effort and intelligence on the part of the participants. They at least make it LOOK LIKE an effort. (read: Hell's Kitchen, Chef School, etc.).

What TV show's seasons would you buy on DVD?
Queer As Folk, Grey's, NCIS, How I Met Your Mother, Firefly, The Office, and How It's Made (I'd give that as a gift too).

1. Are you a good worker?
Burning through 70-some-odd emails yesterday in my second language? Yeah, I'd say so.

2. What do you carry?
Guilt... haha... no. keys, cell (when it's functional), purse, work ID tag, headphones.

3. Do you know your neighbors?
No, but in all fairness I moved in Apr 12 and I've only been home half the time (and often at night).

4. Where do you like to go for a day trip?
Waterton Lakes or Drumheller.

5. What is at your feet?
Garbage can, computer tower, purse.

Applying for Adjunct Positions
I'm graduating with my MA in English next month and I'm in the process of applying for adjunct positions for the fall. Should I include information about my research interests and prior academic work in my application letters, or will the schools not care about that kind of stuff? I've been assuming my letter would only discuss my teaching experience, but wanted to make sure. Also, is it advisable to discuss departmental service in this kind of letter?

So remember that whole need people to hand transcribe 1st edition unix asm to machine readable formats? I got all of one page done and checked in before others actually did a bang up job OCR'ing it and checking it, and it's totally running emulated inside SIMH!

<@newsham> not only bootable, patched to run 2e binaries, can build an
old version of the C compiler, the assembler, can build the
kernel and a selection of other cmds

Information on how to get it running in the Readme.

Go go first edition unix!

(Meanwhile I'm reading What the Dormouse Said and am still generally preoccupied with computing history more than present, because goddamn the present is full of fail, more elucidation later).
