He read his old short story "The Rise And Fall of Sharpie Cakes" in Japanese, and then Roland Kelts read it in English; afterwards, Kelts interviewed Murakami and asked him questions submitted by the audience. One of those questions was whether Murakami would write another novel any time soon. He responded, "Last week, I finished my new novel." He says it should be out in Japan next year. He also said that an elephant is just an elephant, that Brian Wilson is a strange man (but a genius), that he likes the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, and that he sings "Yellow Submarine" while he's swimming his daily mile.
