Matt Damon Can Control Your Mind; Will Remain Awesome While Doing So [26 Jul 2008|11:06am]

One of these guys sucks more than the other two.

Forget popularity and recognition. Celebrities who are likable and can be trusted have the most influence on what consumers buy, according to a new study.

While actor Brad Pitt and pop singer Britney Spears are the most recognized stars among 200 famous faces tested in a survey, they failed to crack the top five for likability, according to New York-based market research company NDP Group, Inc.

Actors Will Smith, Denzel Washington, Matt Damon, Halle Berry and George Clooney were the most likable celebrities.

Sean Bean inspired by Christian Bale [26 Jul 2008|04:03pm]

ohnotheydidnt

[drop_and_roll]
Actor Sean Bean spent the night in a police cell following allegations that he assaulted his wife.

Police were called following a claim of domestic assault and arrested the 49-year-old at his London home.

Bean was taken to a police station and kept overnight before being released without charge.

The Lord of the Rings star married his fourth wife, 29-year-old Georgina Sutcliffe, in February.

The couple originally intended to marry in January but cancelled 24 hours before the big day, citing "personal reasons".

Ms Sutcliffe, who is an actress told the Sun: "Everything is okay. Sean and I are at home enjoying the sunshine. He was arrested. Everything was blown out of proportion."

Bean told the newspaper: "I'm fine."

The Sheffield-born actor married his first wife Debra at the age of 21, followed by marriages to Bread actress Melanie Hill and Sharpe co-star Abigail Cruttenden.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "Police were called to a home at 11.40pm on Thursday night following an allegation of domestic assault.

"A man was taken to a police station and bailed on Friday morning. Later that day he was advised that no further police action would be taken."

Screen Test | Matthew Goode [26 Jul 2008|10:47am]

ohnotheydidnt

[_aboutaboy]

It’s not easy being a Brit, Matthew Goode will have you know. Ever since he turned up to audition for “Match Point” in 2005 looking like a self-described “drowned rat” — and still managed to charm Woody Allen — Goode has found himself typecast for his ability to pronounce lines like “Hello! Oh, can I smoke here?” in a properly plummy tone. (More shots of Goode playing the part appear in this Sunday’s Times Magazine, shot by Zoe Cassavetes.) Before you go see him as the upper-crust aspirant Charles Ryder in Julian Jarrold’s new adaptation of “Brideshead Revisited” — it opens in theaters today — watch Goode have a chat with Lynn Hirschberg over a glass of wine about everything from his childhood stage role as Prince Charming to his first role as a would-be aristocrat. Cheers!

Revisiting Brideshead [26 Jul 2008|10:21am]

ohnotheydidnt

[_aboutaboy]
British hotshot Ben Whishaw takes on aristo Sebastian Flyte in the latest screen version of Brideshead Revisited.

Ben Whishaw was only a year old when Anthony Andrews had fans swooning over his portrayal of floppy-haired, teddy bear–toting aristocrat Sebastian Flyte in the 1981 TV miniseries Brideshead Revisited. Television adaptations of great English novels have long enraptured American audiences, though none have ignited Anglomania as did that reworking of Evelyn Waugh’s 1945 classic, set among the fading aristocracy. To those who saw the series, it’s so iconic that the idea of a new big-screen version seems almost impertinent. But Whishaw, who plays the beautiful, doomed Sebastian Flyte in the film, was undaunted by the series’ long shadow. “I didn’t watch it, and to be honest, I haven’t even properly heard about it,” says Whishaw, 27, who, since playing a teenage Hamlet at London’s Old Vic four years ago, has become one of the UK’s most promising young actors.

Looking at him now, as he sits in a café down the street from his North London flat—his green eyes intense, almost glowing and his frame whip-thin—you can see why he’s become the go-to actor for the Brooding Romantic. He’s played a scent-obsessed serial killer in Perfume and a Bob Dylan–Arthur Rimbaud hybrid in Todd Haynes’s and next year he will appear as poet John Keats in Jane Campion’s biopic “He has this extraordinary sensitivity—sort of one skin less than most people around him,” says Trevor Nunn, who directed him in Hamlet. “When Hamlet at the beginning says, ‘Seems! I know not seems,’ it was just astonishing, because there was no seeming. This was the real thing! He was in terrible, terrible distress.”

For the role of Sebastian, Whishaw drew on the novel and on a biography of Waugh. His Sebastian, struggling against his family’s ingrained Catholicism, has an affecting fragility that jibes with Waugh’s exploration of the suffering that religion both addresses and inflicts. The actor was also inspired by a comment made by former Smiths frontman Morrissey, about growing up Catholic. “He said something like, ‘They get you young, and they sear you,’” Whishaw says, his eyes narrowing for emphasis. “Sebastian knows what his nature is and believes he’s going to hell. I wanted to convey that conflict inside him.”

DeAnna Pappas Tries on Wedding Gowns at Monique Lhuillier Salon [26 Jul 2008|07:21am]

[sinceiwas17]

'The Bachelorette’ DeAnna Pappas is busy planning her wedding to fiancé Jesse Csincsak and has already begun shopping for her wedding dress. Pappas was spotted trying on wedding gowns at L.A.’s Monique Lhuillier salon on Tuesday.

Pappas and Csincsak have set their wedding for May 9, 2009, exactly one year after the professional snowboarder proposed on ABC’s Bachelorette.

Pappas recently revealed that she already knows the color scheme she wants for the wedding -- brown, and Csincsak knows he wants a “huge cheesecake.” The couple has also decided that the groomsmen will wear suits instead of tuxedos.

John Cleese

Monty Python star John Cleese launched a scathing attack on his late mother Muriel - insisting she was a "dreadful" parent.

The British actor spoke out about his strained relationship with his mum to reporters at a fundraiser for Bristol Zoo on Thursday.

Cleese shocked journalists and fans as he told how had struggled to get along with his mother - who died in 2002 aged 101 - and even said he worried she may never die.

He says, "I did have a dreadful mother. Isn't that a terrible thing to say? But it's true.

"She was classically self-centred. Always though of herself. And she lived to 101 - I thought I'd never get rid of her."

Tony Romo is apparently the driving force behind Jessica Simpson's already failed attempt to crossover to country music. While what small semblance of a music career she has left is being drowned in "twang," Tony also wants to see his lady pack on the pounds, according to OK! Magazine:

"Tony is also the first to boost Jess about her body! Jessica admits that she's "packed on a few pounds but she doesn't care," the source tells OK!.
"She's loving life and isn't trying to be Daisy Duke. Besides, if Tony loves the way she looks, who is anyone else to complain?"

LOL!

The 26-year-old actress is getting set to see her episode of the NBC sitcom Chuck, where we gets into a fight scene with Yvonne Strahovski.

In other news, Nicole’s daughter, Harlow Madden has reportedly had a trust fund set up already by her grandfather Lionel Richie. The fund is worth $5 million. Not too shabby!

Madonna appears out of sorts as she leaves a Kabbalah Centre with daughter Lourdes and sons Rocco and David in New York City on Friday.
According to reports, Madonna and husband Guy Ritchie are possibly planning to renew their wedding vows in order to get their marriage back on track.

Called a “Shabbat Nachamu” (night of consolation), the Kabbalah ceremony would be witnessed by two rabbis next month. Additional celebrations are being planned for Madonna’s 50th birthday.

DO YOU THINK this ceremony will help Madonna and Guy get back on track — YAY OR NAY?

Actress Anna Friel looked a picture of health as she exercised in the LA sunshine while taking her daughter Gracie for a stroll.

And lucky for the fit 32-year-old, who has found success in America with the black comedy Pushing Daisies, she had a friend to help her look after the baby while she strolled along using a dumbell.

The gorgeous star and her companion took turns pushing the three-year-old in her buggy while Miss Friel showed off her trimmed and toned physique in a tight white top and running shorts.

indiefucks

[livesamantha]
I know I have poasted a lot this week but I am getting tired of looking at the same emo lyrics over and over when I hit refresh.

So, good morning Indiefucks! It is Saturday/Caturday!

But really, what kind of protection do you guys have to defend yourselves in case of an attacker/home invader etc? Pepper spray, pocket knives, tasers, guns? I am interested to see what you feel safe carrying and keeping in your house.

I have 2 VERY sharp pocket knives I keep in my purse at all times {unless it's not permitted i.e airports} I have a taser/flashlight that is really discreet but can knock someone on their ass if they try anything, and recently my dad gave me a handgun.
I'm not sure how I feel about carrying this around but it is nice to have when I am home alone at night. I started shooting 22's when I was about 13 and my dad has always been very responsible and taught me gun safety from a young age. I really REALLY wanted to go to a shooting range for my 20th birthday because my friend Alex has an amazing gun collection but after I found out I was pregnant I knew it wasn't a good idea. I'm not trigger happy though, in fact I know that if anyone ever did try to harm me, I would have a hard time firing at a human being no matter how scary/fucked up they were. Maybe I would feel different if that situation ever came up, but for now, I hope I never have to shoot at anything but a target.

I know there will be a lot of comments like {having a gun is just asking for trouble} but really, if you are comfortable having one they can save lives. There are a lot of bad people in this world and dangerous situations could call for a firearm at some point in time.

Or are you just a baseball bat under the bed type of person?

{also if you couldn't tell, post caturday pics ITT, or other cute animals, this means you crabcraft!}

Lori Berger of CosmoGirl profiled Lauren and states, "I recently spent some time with Lauren Conrad at her factory in Sylmar, California, where she designs the Lauren Conrad Collection. I did this as part of cover story I was working on for the Sept. issue of CosmoGirl magazine. My goal was to show our readers another side of Lauren's 'real' life -- as a working designer -- one they don't get to see during the filming of "The Hills." During the approximately two hours I spent with her, I watched her do a 'final fit' on her resort collection which included everything from altering sleeves, hems and necklines to making changes and adjustments to the overall silhouettes of many of the pieces in the line. Additionally, I photographed Lauren during the entire process -- from trying on each piece -- to measuring, pinning, re-sketching and considering color palettes. My experience observing Lauren as a designer, outside of her daily role on "The Hills," is not only included in my cover profile on her, it introduces the story."

Sucks to your Fantasy Dinner Party. Who's invited to your Fantasy Balderdash Game?

Margaret Atwood
David Foster Wallace
John Donne
Frank Black

But if John Donne writes his definitions in noticeably dated English and loses every round, we're sending him on a beer run and to pick up Tom Robbins.
