The Wild Goose Chase.

all men have an inner GPS (Girl Positioning System), which allows them to locate and migrate toward or away from their targeted prey. they also use it to spot and flee from dangerous predators, irritating girlfriends, or angry exes.
most men are masters at resisting "emotional arrest". when things get too heavy, they try to fly away, just to see if they still can.

romantic rule: don't ever bar the door and prevent a man who's trying to flee your presence from taking flight.

this will only backfire on you. screaming, crying, vase throwing, and threatening suicide, homicide, or patricide are misguided attempts at manhandling, and you'll pay a huge price for any victory you think you've won. men abhor women who don't respect their right to leave an apartment, conversation, or relationship if they so choose. when men start singing "Freebird," just open the door and let 'em fly away. you can always lock it after them!
if you make a scene every time your man needs space, he'll feel smothered and controlled and look for even more ways to flee the relationship. you'll teach him to mistrust and cause him to become agitated, angry, or passive-aggressive. he may even become sneaky and plotting or downright hostile. let him go. once he does a couple of laps, he'll satisfy his urge and return to you refreshed, attentive, and human. so retract your claws and purr.
