BioDue to the rapidly growing list of people that now read my blog, I've decided to make another bio and add more info. (last update 2005, November 13th)
I've been known around the internet as Nermal for the last 11 years. I was part of the first vague of internet people when all we had were 14.4k modems, good old times! XD Since then, I've come across a lot of different stuff over the net and have come to get to know a lot of people through different communities. For the past 3 years, my main interest has been put into Japanese Music related artists and products.
Like many people, my interest started with the contact of a subtitled anime. I was looking for an episode for a friend and came upon a Japanese version to my surprise. Being a Language student then, my meeting of this new language seemed fateful. I loved the sound of it and wanted to learn more, and so my hunt for Japanese anime began. That was 5 years ago already (2000). **Note that I'm am an East Asian Studies Major graudate**
I was an active member of Anime Kingdom in which I've recently begun looking back into after falling out of it since my meeting with j-pop. From there, I soon learned about j-doramas from other members and shrugged it off in the first years. Somewhere in late 2002, early 2003, I finally let my curiousity get the better of me and finally decided to go hunting for info about those dramas, after hearing about the Taiwanese drama 'Meteor Garden' being based on the anime of 'Hana Yori Dango'. While the acting of this one was horrid, I slowly got acquainted with Asian cultures in a different way and decided to push further my browsing.
I soon stumbled across Japan-TV and their amazing fansubs of drama series. After hearing many good things about GTO and Beautiful Life, I finally watched them and from there, was completely taken in the world of dramas. Of course, looking back on those two drama now, I realize how much I'Ve seen better overtime and a lot better acting too, but they still hold a special place in my heart.
One day, I heard about Gokusen being produced, which I knew was based on a manga. This got me curious and I decided to hunt for more info. Of course, I knew of J-Dorama already and found much valuable information there. One picture caught my eye at the time. Matsumoto Jun's picture (at the time, not his actual picture). I remember thinking 'He's sooooo pretty!' and soon embarked on an adventure I wasn't about to return from. I wanted more, and so I looked for hours at the time and soon discovered, Arashi.
While Arashi was the first group to get me to make the jump into japanese music (aside from anime theme songs), it didn't stop there. That was partially due to the good help and information I found from Idol Thoughts, forum which I now am an admin/moderator of. I soon found out the crazy world of Johnny's Entertainment and of the Johnny's Juniors. While my main interest stayed with Arashi until early Spring of 2004, it didn't stop me from enjoying other Juniors and debuted groups. 3 Tops will always share a special place in my heart along with the old K.K.Kity, Kohara Yuki, Murakami Shingo, Yokohama Yu, Imai Tsubasa, Nishikido Ryo and others.
Of course, my main focus being Arashi, I stumbled upon many clips from other groups (like V6) for which they were backdancing but didn't make much of them because of the hideous costumes. (V6 really always had the worst costumes) I didn't think much of the older generation groups. Of course, seeing old countdown like the 2001 or 2002 one didn't help that. The costumes and bad haircuts killed it for me! But, the songs slowly started growing on me. Soon I found a 'distant' interest into Kinki Kids and their related stuff (Domoto Kyoudai, Love Love Aishiteru). Then of course, I came upon many clips from TV Shows with Arashi members in them or other Juniors. My interests into TOKYO and V6 grew a lot. All the Sports Events also helped me appreciate a lot more older groups as they all seemed to have so much fun and were always joking around.
Then I stumbled upon the wonderful world of Japanese Televison around March of 2004. What was the show you'll ask? Gakkou e Ikou! XD Those who know me well enough know this is the one TV Show I know the most things about and that I also have a very extensive collection of episodes (over 250). I am right now in the making of a Gakkou e Ikou shrine in the style of Mina-P's V6 Dregrees of Separation.
(project currently postponed until I get fully settled in Japan.. maybe another 2-3 months)
I now live in Japan in the wonderful prefecture of Kanagawa, in Yokohama! Love it here! Love work! Love the cute guys everywhere! ^^
