Hi There's a war in there. And the way Western media makes me laugh and cry at the same time—but most of all, it makes me want to take a drink. If anyone is interested, I can explain how things look from this side of the fence.

Hi Seeing how now I'll kind of be in IT (man, fortunes do turn, don't they?) and after spending some time working for the gov't: http://professionalsuperhero.com/. Actually, hell, for anyone who ever worked in large enough bureaucratic mess…

Hi http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5jkKFU8CvHoLV5ont_58iLTVBWLVQD91BMCJ02 It's clear that the coalition forces and current (official) Afghani government have no control over what's happening there whatsoever. "We've occupied most of the area and it's a good place for fighting. Now we are waiting for the NATO and Afghan forces" makes me think that things are going to be rather sour for the coalition—Afghan forces are likely to get the heck out of the way, leaving the foreign troops without intelligence and a layer of protection. Things can turn rather badly, especially if one remembers that Soviets couldn't take reliable long term control over the area, even though they had a much more reasonable force in Afghanistan. Kandahar is a strategic location from many points of view but losing it would lead to logistic issues and much more ease of bringing in troops from Pakistan.
Long story short, I wouldn't be surprised if some day there will be Russian and US veterans drinking together and cussing in anger over that place.
P. S. If the Taliban can mount an effective offensive and turn things to pre-2001 level (with Northern Alliance being the only other reasonably armed faction), then it would be somewhat harder for those who say that things are well to keep on doing so.

Hi My views on government and liberties, for example. I wholeheartedly agree with the following: «The preservation of the safety and security of the citizens is not the primary duty of the state. The preservation of their essential rights and liberties is.»—Willem Buiter's Maverecon, June 12, 2008.

Hi When I think of college I think of old classrooms with dirty green boards. Late night class during winter. It's 9:30pm, everyone is tired. The room is half empty and the professor is really wishing he had let us out early. Students are sleepy and don't get jack. But i wake up from dropping into sleep for a second and it just hits me. And everything makes sense. And I smile. And feel good. And I might just be the only person in the room who does. And that feeling makes it all worth it.

» There's No Way Out Of Here
Hi This is for tushafied and piratejon, this is for gozetassj9 and me.
There's no way out of here When you come in You're in for good There was no promise made The part you played The chance you took
There are no boundaries set The time and yet You waste it still So it slips through your hands Like grains of sand You watch it go
There's no time to be lost You'll pay the cost So get it right There's no way out of here When you come in You're in for good
There never was there an answer There an answer Not without listening Without seeing
There are no answers here When you look out You don't see in There was no promise made The part you played The chance you took
There's no way out of here When you come in You're in for good
There never was there an answer There an answer Not without listening Without seeing
There's no way out of here When you come in You're in for good There was no promise made The part you played The chance you took
There's no way out of here When you come in You're in for good There's no way out of here When you come in You're in for good There are no answers here When you look out You don't see in There's no way out of here When you come in You're in for good
Ladies and gentlemen, it's time for bigger adventures, for more painful mistakes and riskier bets. It's time to move on without looking back for a while. It's time to smile into the problems' guts and remember that it's the young aggressive males who had nothing to lose who change this world.

Hi My face is sun burnt, so is my neck, arms and legs. Amazingly, they don't hurt, otherwise my life would be hell now. It seems that there will be quite a bit of discoloration between tanned and bearded parts of my face if I were to shave. Sounds like hilarity.
piratejon and I shall start having pool parties. If there would start being time when I won't have to wake up early in the morning. I'm seriously considering buying a pickup. If 5.0 only had better gas mileage:-/ My mom and I drove around today. We made it to the Wichitas, ate at Meers and watched buffalo and prairie dogs till it was about to rain. Later today I shall start legally owning a vehicle. It seems that every summer I get better at tolerating heat.
I was asked a few days back if I'm having fun this summer. In a casual definition—no, not really. 60hrs of work per week tend not to be fun. But, in reality, I rather happy. And it feels great.

» There Are Too Many Here Among Us Who Fell That Life Is But A Joke
Hi There is no reason to be excited. But we shall be, since we must never ever be boring. I have somewhat of a degree now. That, with a certain flexibility of lack of direction in life and uprootedness of a young male, is a rather dangerous combination. And while some might say that ambitions are to be abandoned, that approach would always remain silly. There's always a step to make forward and a thing to do. In the end, though, it's just about us. Living, breathing, doing something and not doing anything for some. And we can leave an impact, be that teaching children or being a Senator or, rather, his opportunity of existence can be just burned through for the fun of it. The latter option is considerably less fulfilling, it seems, just due to the fact that in the end we will inevitably die.
At this juncture I do not know where I will be at the end of the summer. There are options and choices and decisions to make and papers to file but in a way it shall all be alright. So, good Lord willing and if the Creeks don't rise, life will go on, with turns and twists, in its usual manner.

Hi Someone played with my laptop while I was taking a break from AoE. So far there has been some messages, wall posts, picture comments, pokes and such. An LJ post, a few e-mail, stuff like that. After we'll stop playing AoE here, I'll start sending out apologies as such. But, in general, if you have received anything from my fbook/e-mail/blogs/anything that was out of the ordinary then it was not me.
P. S. I took my last final as an undergraduate today.

» I'll Be An Uncle (Or Second Cousin Once Removed)
Hi My second cousin, Ksenia, is getting married this Wednesday. She's also expecting a baby in the end of May. My mom told me about it this morning and we spent the whole morning getting ready for work time/commute talking about it. Now, my mom's first cousin (Ksenia's mom) is younger than my mom (she's not even 40) and Ksenia is about a year and a half younger than I am. Also, this is the part of the family that we actually like and it's just amazing to see things be so different. Last time I saw her in '05 she wasn't quite looking to get married:-)
It made us both feel somewhat old and we went back in forth as to what would be a good number of kids to have and how our career choices enhance or impede the child rearing possibilities. My dad always told me that he wanted to be a grandfather by the time he'd turn 40. Well, that didn't happen. Risk management, heh.
I'm still in a bit of a shock and awe.
P. S. I've used http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:CousinTree.svg to figure out the appropriate names for the relationships.
