the internet has told me that my redesign won project: rooftop's superman: man of style contest. gigantic thanks to everyone who took time out of their lives to organize the event and judge the entries, and big time congratulations to all the talented artists who entered! there are always so many innovative takes on classic characters over at P:R. it's like the fountain of youth for golden and silver age ideas!
oh, and thanks to the guys at pulp secret for announcing the contest's results on their show, even if they assumed i was dude!
i'd also like to mention that popgun volume 2 is being released on the 16th. first, i am going to be lazy and not a little obnoxious by quoting myself as an introduction to the endeavor and my teensy part in it;I handled full art duties on writer Tim Daniel's piece for PopGun Volume 2, a kind of freewheeling "mix-tape" anthology on the theme of not having a common theme. Our piece is therefore rather aptly entitled "Loner," and it's basically a spooky tone poem touching on love, estrangement, isolation and the endurance of a human spirit caught between classes at an average American middle school. second, i am going to mention what a privilege it was collaborating with mr. daniel. not only did he come up with some great, inspirational material, he also provided me with a near constant stream of support and enthusiasm for my sometimes tortured efforts. HE IS A CHAMP.
you can read the beautiful script he gave me to work from over at the site he built for our story, or check out some preview pages along with art from a bunch of the other classy comics featured in this upcoming collection at its official site;

| all conned out. |
[Apr. 25th, 2008|03:04 pm] |
man. the last few weeks have been pretty stressful and busy for me, but one really bright spot was visiting my pal alexa and playing some of the most intense dress-up of my life with her at nerd prom '08. she also took most of these photos since my memory card crapped out at the last second. thanks, lex! me hate you the worst. ♥
on friday we were ( death & delirium from the sandman. )
on saturday we were the world's worstest, ( bizzara & batzarra! )
and of course there were many other ( strange and wonderful sights to behold. )
sunday we dressed like normal people and had a perfectly lovely time.
 ...and that's a con!
edit: ah, and how could i forget! on saturday we got to meet sean murphy and dustin nguyen and lurk around them in the artists' alley for a bit. they both took the time to look at my portfolio and say generally encouraging things despite the bevy of fanpeople fighting for their attention and merchandise. two deeply talented guys, and about as nice as they get! |

guys, the wonder woman wardrobe war winners are up, and they are all fantastic. LJ's own oxboxer placed first with her spiffy white angelic she-ra redesign and yazzle wowed the rest with her ballsy decision to give diana some pants already. i clocked in at second, and i couldn't be more pleased or honored.
thanks to dryponder, joel_priddy (who submitted a snazzy yet sadly ineligible design of his own), and all the other constructively critical judges for their hard work and keen eyes.
now everyone go and go gaga over all the beautiful drawings of ms. w. woman! |

| batgirl loves patrolling suburban backyards! |
[Nov. 1st, 2007|02:11 pm] |
so, i dressed up as a ridiculous homemade batgirl for halloween and wandered around salem in full costume. i got called "batgirl" thrice, "batchick" twice, and "batwoman" once. but the best part was when i held a door for a young woman in immaculate renaissance faire garb and she nearly screamed "OH, COOL!" upon seeing the bat on my chest.
the "street clothes" portion of this costume consists of a pair of yellow and black puma sneakers, a black t-shirt, black 3/4 length sleeved hoodie, black puffy skirt, and black footless tights.
the bat accessories are a modified bat mask from newbury comics ($6.95), a modified pair of black opera length gloves from hot topic ($3.99), a Batman™ utility belt from a halloween superstore ($10.99), and handmade bat chest insignia and cape with scalloped batwing border.
the bat "high school graduation yearbook portrait" pose!
( BATGIRLED! POW! SMACK! SMILE! ) i cut up an old yellow disneyworld mickey mouse poncho for the lining on the cape and bat insignia, and i totally felt like michelle pfeiffer from batman returns in her catwoman transformation montage. and if that's not a great way to prepare for halloween, i don't know what is! ;D |

character: robin iv (stephanie brown) rating/warnings: sidekick sentimentality. media: pen, ink, & ps7 artist's note: my own little project rooftop.

( if stephanie brown had made 19. )
for the purposes of this exercise i choose to believe that timbo is still robin too, lurking and tumbling around in his swanky red suit. he and steph are super sweet at the "flying south" formation on either side of bruce when need be, but make no mistake; steph's feet are firmly planted in her shin-stompers.
in non-geeky art news, i scored another commission with the las vegas weekly, which is all to the good and much appreciated. but this time the concept's basically entirely up to me, and it is due tuesday. gah! so to those of you who are expecting commissions/obligations fulfilled, um. i solly. can i haff a few days IOU? i am good for it, and if i welch out, you may TP my LJ. fair's fair! |

| on the prowl and under cowl. |
[Jul. 23rd, 2007|10:01 am] |
In this new Fall collection from Stolen Couture, the timeless Miss Selina Kyle transitions seamlessly from day to evening to darkest night in three signature styles.
Selina's set to cause serious shopping damage in the trendy clothing boutiques of Gotham City's edgy Pope District in a "plum crazy" minidress, and just as prepared to cut a path through flimsy socialites to find some real diamonds amidst the fluff in an "emerald endeavors" evening gown. Of course she's also eager to see if her Bat's caved in to the water-resistant and figure-enhancing charms of her ever in demand "urban anti-vigilante" bodysuit!
With the help of these hot new looks, here's one cool Cat who won't be left out in the cold when it comes to dressing for any occasion.
character: selina kyle (catwoman) rating/warnings: watch out, bruce-ums! media: pen, ink, & ps7 artist's note: on the prowl and under cowl.
