| Sleep No More, Lost and Found, and comics talk. |

Got back from seeing a rather intriguing live theater event with faerykore and trapezzoid a few hours ago. It was a mashup of Shakespeare's Macbeth and Hitchcock's Rebecca ( called 'Sleep No More'.Collapse )
Okay, now how about some COMIC BOOK ART? Some noir, gritty, pulp comic book art which I drew for a story called "Lost and Found" written by the exceedingly talented and kind Eric Skillman?

( Lost and FoundCollapse ) Eric also handled the colors for this story, and he made my line art look so good I nearly cried! I love the textures and flat tones so, so much.
Oh, and one last neat thing. A young photojournalist from BU named Andrew Bisdale interviewed Kevin Church and me while we were sitting at our table during the Boston Comic-Con this past October. Check out the video below for some neat sound bites from several personalities at this cool, local show!

so here's the last entry in my work roundup, and it's a big one!
i drew the art for a chapter in the jennifer's body graphic novel, with colors by the wonderful dryponder! the comic's written by rick spears and inspired by the upcoming diablo cody/megan fox movie of the same name. other contributors include jim mahfood, nikki cook and tim seeley.
here's an interview i gave to brett williams for his awesome blog surfing the bleed!
if you get a chance, please check the book out. i'm including a pinup to tempt you. it's one of the movie's main characters, needy, played by amanda seyfried. dean colored this one too. :) (if you're going to be in san diego for the con, you can pick this drawing up as a free promotional trading card from BOOM! comics.)

speaking of the SDCC, guess what? i will be at the SAN DIEGO COMICCON this week!- if you see me, don't hesitate to say hello! :D
- i'll be at the popgun table (right by the image booth!) on saturday from 4-5 PM, please come and hang out with me!
- i have a signing with keiko agena from gilmore girls at the epic proportions booth, #1735 on friday from 2-4 PM. swing by the SI table anytime though for these other awesome creators!

continuing to play work roundup-catchup this week, we leave the optimistic world of asian superheroes for the grittier terrain of the old west.
here's an 8 page piece i completed last year that you can finally check out in outlaw territory vol. 1, the western-themed anthology from image comics. the story's called "griswold's song." check below the cut for some text-free sample pages!
edit: and here's an interview with the anthology's editor, michael woods!
( GRISWOLD'S SONG, by chad kinkle and ming doyleCollapse )
and now for some beautiful art by the ever talented and oh so fashionable tzarohell, also known as sir lawrence gullo. young master lawrence, who is responsible for such beautiful webcomics as my life in blue and baritarian boy, was so kind as to send me a copy of his newest sequential venture, vampire deluxe!, which recently debuted at this year's MoCCA festival in NYC.
( VAMPIRE DELUXE!, by lawrence gullo and david ryder prangleyCollapse )
not pictured but also included, a very dashing postcard! be sure to give this lovely book a lingering look-over if you get a chance. thanks again, zan! |

| secret identities |

time for a little bit of a work roundup! i don't know how much i'm going to be able to fit in before my typing fingers give up on me, so let's get started. first off on the "WHAT HAS MING BEEN UP TO THESE LAST FEW MONTHS BECAUSE SHE CERTAINLY HASN'T BEEN DRAWING BATMAN CUDDLING BABY PUPPIES LIKE SHE SHOULD, I WOULD'VE NOTICED THAT" is secret identities: the asian american superhero anthology!
i did the art for a 6 page story titled "learn to share," written by the lovely keiko agena of gilmore girls fame. here's an interview keiko and i gave a while back to a gilmore girls fansite all about it.
check below for a sneak peek!
( LEARN TO SHARE, by keiko agena and ming doyleCollapse )
also, if you're going to be in NYC on july 11th and have any interest, don't forget to check out the first asian american comiccon in the history of ever!
if you can't make the con, then i hope you get a chance to read the book. it's a wonderful concept that i was happy to be a part of. asian american superpowers, go go go!
phew, that's it for now. i still have a couple of projects to promote and show off, but those will have to wait a bit. thanks again to everyone who's supported me in my fledgling comics career! i appreciate all the goodwill and patience. :) |

| the cowboys have all gone to the comic store. |

i swung by newbury comics last week, where i just so happened to spy ( a very handsome tome indeed.Collapse )
i also saw comic book tattoo for the first time, but it was up front under the cashiers' keen and camera-hating eyes. soon, CBT, you too shall know my admiring embrace...!
that's two anthologies down. outlaw territory is next up, i believe, out in late october. here's the art for the first page of "griswold's song," the story of a man and his father's gun, written by chad kinkle, lettered by the inestimable thomas mauer.

| popgun superman. |
[Jul. 7th, 2008|01:55 pm]
|
the internet has told me that my redesign won project: rooftop's superman: man of style contest. gigantic thanks to everyone who took time out of their lives to organize the event and judge the entries, and big time congratulations to all the talented artists who entered! there are always so many innovative takes on classic characters over at P:R. it's like the fountain of youth for golden and silver age ideas!
oh, and thanks to the guys at pulp secret for announcing the contest's results on their show, even if they assumed i was dude!
i'd also like to mention that popgun volume 2 is being released on the 16th. first, i am going to be lazy and not a little obnoxious by quoting myself as an introduction to the endeavor and my teensy part in it;I handled full art duties on writer Tim Daniel's piece for PopGun Volume 2, a kind of freewheeling "mix-tape" anthology on the theme of not having a common theme. Our piece is therefore rather aptly entitled "Loner," and it's basically a spooky tone poem touching on love, estrangement, isolation and the endurance of a human spirit caught between classes at an average American middle school. second, i am going to mention what a privilege it was collaborating with mr. daniel. not only did he come up with some great, inspirational material, he also provided me with a near constant stream of support and enthusiasm for my sometimes tortured efforts. HE IS A CHAMP.
you can read the beautiful script he gave me to work from over at the site he built for our story, or check out some preview pages along with art from a bunch of the other classy comics featured in this upcoming collection at its official site;
