and now, ♪♪♪ call! if you have any comics-inspired playlists or songs of the moment, share the love around! just random good old-fashioned music recommendations are accepted as well. i'll start. here's a song for mr. bruce wayne.

today on the gritty menu we have an illustration for an article in the las vegas weekly on local racial tensions, and for pretty we are offering a sharpie and acrylic sketch of the fabulous zatanna on a piece of cardboard backing.
perhaps not the most harmonious pairing, but so it goes.

i'm hopping on a train bound for new jersey/new york environs in an hour or two. on the one hand, i am tired and traveling tired is always a bummer. on the other hand, comics. :D |

| villains may commit their crimes / but i won't do you harm. |
[Mar. 10th, 2008|05:07 pm] |
who would you rather be entangled in some variety of hypothetical romantic interest with, harvey dent before his two-face transition, or "bruce wayne" at any point after his world wanderings with the catch that you'd never know about the other side of the proverbial coin?
i'm honestly stuck on which option would be the more perfect setup for a psychological horror movie.
speaking of setups, this one is coming weeks in advance but i'll be attending the new york comic-con next month. i'm going with my pal lex in costume (UH HUH THASSRIGHT), so we should be easy to spot if you want to say hi! just look for the lanky blonde and sturdy half asian in various states of ridiculousness. more on that later.
you may remember my adventures at last year's nycc. i have the option of using the professionals' entrance this time around, but i'll probably wait in the regular line with lex in case any more potential hilarity gold decides to spice up my life. maybe i'll run into my little chum again. fingers crossed, guys!
edit: GOTHAM KNIGHT! the theme music is so swoopy and dire. i adore it so. |

| melons of om. |
[Jan. 3rd, 2008|11:59 am] |
another new illustration for an article in the las vegas weekly, this time about a porn convention! taking that into consideration, i think i managed to keep the cheesecake to a fairly sedate level, but i will warn you; never before in my art career have i drawn melons so large. not that these ones are any larger than what you'd see on your average female background character in what we call "ze comics," but still.
to counteract the extremely sparkly sordidness of the aforementioned, i'm also including a sketch of everybody's favorite son of a serial-womanizer-for-justice hot multiracial vigilante buddhist monk, connor hawke. i drew him for the lovely rubynye on the occasion of her never have i ever birthday meme.

( so a porn star and a buddhist monk walk into this lj-cut... ) |

ah, my favorite day of the year is coming up! today i plan on going to salem with some friends (though we'll probably spend more time at the peabody essex than any witch museum), carving some jack-o-lanterns, and putting the finishing touches on my ridiculous batgirl costume. tomorrow, i will hand out candy to cute kids and surly preteens and hopefully get to see the nightmare before christmas in glorious 3D!
she's a bit early, but here's every comic geek's favorite magician to help ring in the holiday. lineart is over at the website, and the full image is ( behind the cut. )
hope everyone has a ghastly one!

| 'Lady Gotham' DVD commentary. |
[Oct. 23rd, 2007|11:38 am] |
Originally posted March 2nd, 2007, Lady Gotham was the first thing I drew, sequential or otherwise, straight out of art school. As such I would do everything differently if I were to draw it again, but ain't that always the way? Here are some of the things I was thinking, reading, and seeing as I worked on this glamorous mess.
Character: Martha Wayne Rating/warnings: Melancholic foreboding. Media: Pen, ink, & ps7 Artist's note: Growing up is hard to do.

| welcome back, television. |
[Sep. 28th, 2007|06:44 am] |
the smallville season premiere was a rollicking roller coaster. my favorite part? bizarro clark's bizarro face.
like most other people who have bothered to think on such things, i always just assumed that bizarro's skin was made of oogie-boogie yuck-gunk. but i liked the phasing metallic effect employed by these, the translators, interpreters, and technology-tellers of our modern mythology. it really said, "we have thought about how the polar opposite of clark kent, the symbol of some collective america's deepest hopes and fears for itself, would manifest physically and psychologically in the latter half of this century's dawning decade, and we have concluded that the terminator was cool."
 ( bizarro clark closeup. )
it's been years since i tried drawing anything directly into photoshop, and sure enough, this was a pain. yet weirdly fun!
also, if it's any indication of how much smallville i've watched in my life and where my attention was mainly focused during those many hours, i drew this without any reference whatsoever... except for that of my fevered, teenaged memories. *__*
and while we're emoticonning, when i found out that supernatural doesn't start up again till next week, i was all >:-0!
and when i found out that avocado smoothies exist after eating taiwanese hot-pot last night, i was all NO NO TAIWAN WHY. |
