everything i know about moorcock is from that neil story about being a lonely fanboy at boarding school, which is to say basically nothing at all. but i lurve your monsta.

i know even less than that since i haff nevar read that neil story! i did read the story these illustrations were for, though. i found it quite enjoyable despite having no prior knowledge of the universe or characters.

probably it was the carnivorous sentient demon flowers that won me over.

it's the kinda name you feel like saying at fancy cocktail parties, just so you can see the looks on people's faces as they try to figure out what the hell is wrong with you you're talking about :)

okay, uh. sweet? i have a confession to make-- i have read...no elric. where should i start? i've been hitting up the classics of sci-fi & fantasy lately (john carter of mars stuff, the worm ouroboros etc).

i've read absolutely no elric either! well, this specific novella aside at least. if you click on the wikipedia link above i think there's a suggested reading order for all the elric stories, but i don't know which books are considered best, worst, etc., and i can tell you that black petals was awesome even with no contextual knowledge. it had pygmies and carnivorous blooms! :D

i don't know if weird tales sells through amazon or not, but i do know that "kalakak" would be an exceptional, say, gerbil name.

Single issues of Weird Tales, including this one, can be ordered online from Wildside Press. And yes, Ming's illustrations are gorgeous!

OMG these are awesome. And printed in Weird Tales Magazine? I feel this makes you totally famous. Elric's so hard to live up to w/ Whelan and P Craig Russell setting the bar so high, but I think you do a great job here. Awesome costumes + use of black! :DD Kalakak is just amazing. *2 thumbs way way up*

I love Kalakak's body language. I don't know the story, but I imagine him being like, "Yeah? I don't have all day, here."

Also, damn, I love the way your stuff works, like, from a foot away (ie, my distance from the screen) it's all gorgeous, and attitude, but up close there's all these gorgeous grotty little details.

that's absolutely what he was like in the story! "get on with it, every minute i'm awake i have to sleep another hundred years. gosh am i cranky."

but up close there's all these gorgeous grotty little details.

grotty! i love it. thanks bunches, betty.

Wow, I keep thinking: what if reading this was my first exposure to Ming? I WOULD BE BLOWN AWAY. WAIT. I'M STILL BLOWN AWAY AND I'VE KNOWN YOU FOR LIKE 7 YEARS.

Seriously, this a fantastic marriage of style to subject. This is just the kind of stuff I crave to see you illustrate. My favorite of the lot is the princess and Elric; her profile and costume are just so pretty.

I WAS BLOWN AWAY BY YOU LIKE ALL THOSE MANY YEARS AGO AND AM STILL FLAILING IN THE WIND, OKAY??

thank you. when i think of how i drew when you first met me, i don't know whether to laugh or grimace. i guess it's at least good that i've gotten visibly better and not worse...? *g*

This is just the kind of stuff I crave to see you illustrate.

oh man, me three. gigantic gothic fantasy with possibly steampunk elements, here i come! ;D
