...they do look rather comfy and fluffy, don't they? though they didn't feel that way when i was breaking my eyes open by coloring them with a lagging mouse. ah, but i am an artiste, bay-bee, and i am totally in this deal for the poetical suffering. and the cute adorability, naturallment! ;D

in conclusion, hi te, sankyuu!

*leetle gauntleted thumbs up*

i wouldn't presume to presume. *g*

but yes, i totally like that draco child and his angry mother. you can tell they usually feel so entitled, and this "waiting in line" business must really chafe!

huggiful is how i feel about books, ma'am, and i don't rightly care if it's wrong or not, i aim to love those books anyhow.

You should always be enfolded in love! And draped in it, and spangled with it, and, and...

Would it be cool by you if I made an icon from the illo? With credit, of course.

haha I love how almost everyone's eyes are dots, except for the asian girl's, which are slits. This is a really cute illoooo! Is the girl with the sunglasses you? Because if so, the guy in the green hat is tooootally checking you out, ms hot thang.

...oh no. i've turned into that artist, haven't i? the one who draws everyone to look like him or herself? gah! i didn't even notice it till now, but you're right, that girl with the sunglasses has a certain snarkily placid leer that is reminiscent of my own default expression. and she has my hair kinda. and my nose. and omg i did not mean that. she was not supposed to be me.

so that wizard better not take any liberties, and he better watch his wand! XD

and the asian stick-figure-faces have to represent with the slitty eyes, am i correct or do i not speak truth, sister? <3

haha oh god! Well at least if you were to fall into that certain rut, it's not like it'd be to harsh on the eyes. ; )
I hate how that really does seem to become the stereotype, isn't it? People will randomly ask me 'HEY, is that drawing YOU?' and I'm like wtf, not at all, because in my mind they do not resemble me in the slightest. But perhaps dark hair, almond eyes, and a light complexion are enough to win most people over in the amateur drawing dept. pft. Maybe I should just become one of those people that just draws dragons all the time, or the girl who just puts smears of watercolor all over her sketchbook. : X

And watch your back girly! That guy looks like he may not just be a leery hp fan, but an asiaphile 'otaku' as well...hrmmmmm, maybe that's why the other asian girl is totally laying it low with the hufflepuff power. Ahahaha mingalingafoo, your illo is proving to be rich with deep social psychological undertones!

So yesterday I saw HP OotP with my roommates. I was wearing a white shirt, a red tie striped in gold, a red & yellow scarf (when the AC got to me), and working on knitting a yellow & black scarf during previews. I also had a piece of wood stuck in my purse with a note sticking out of it which said "BANG!".

It's possible that I'm something of a stereotype. *cough*

I've never been in HP fandom -- honestly, I know scarcely more about Harry & co. than the average 80-year-old without children, nieces, nephews or grandchildren. Nevertheless, I love this!

The geekery comes through strongly, if perhaps more vaguely than to those more in the know. I adore the demographics. I'm trying not to read too much into how lovingly you detailed Ms Rowling.

Most of all I love that the blonde woman in line is wearing a low (one might even say plunging) neckline, yet not only is she not objectified, she is clearly possessed of agency, and indeed looks plenty tough enough to scare off a would-be attacker on a dark street.

sorry for the late response! i've been eating pie and sleeping and watching movies and drawing, all of which is great fun but very far away from the internet. i am back, though, and so glad that you dug this!

honestly, all i know about harry potter i learned from watching the movies once each in theaters, so i'm probably not much more in the fannish know than you are on this particular subject, but i dearly love fan mentality. and i have to say this was a near stupidly fun commission to draw!

non-objectification of women in comic art and illustration is my goal! i like my ladies to own their sensuality. so thank you for that, and for the comment in general. :)

Cute!! I bet you loved drawing that cover over and over - hee!

I live in Las Vegas -- how'd you end up illustrating for the Weekly? Are you regular there?

(Reply to this)(Thread)

[info]_ming
2007-07-23 03:58 am UTC (link)
mahaha, i actually used the magic of photoshop to reproduce and reposition the one cover design many times over, so i was not stuck drawing 10,000 little harrys. though the photoshopping did still take hours, i will grant it that. and it produced about the same amount of eye strain as actual drawing. *g*

i've only done two illustrations for the weekly so far, but they've both been hilarious and great to work on, and i am always their girl if they ever need anything. i got hooked up with them through brandon bird, who's done some stuff for them as well. lemme see... ah yes, this page;

http://www.brandonbird.com/sketchbook.html

third category down. seinfeld and the goo goo dolls, looks like. yay for las vegas!
