| griswold's song & vampire deluxe! |
[Jun. 29th, 2009|08:35 pm] |
continuing to play work roundup-catchup this week, we leave the optimistic world of asian superheroes for the grittier terrain of the old west.
here's an 8 page piece i completed last year that you can finally check out in outlaw territory vol. 1, the western-themed anthology from image comics. the story's called "griswold's song." check below the cut for some text-free sample pages!
edit: and here's an interview with the anthology's editor, michael woods!
( GRISWOLD'S SONG, by chad kinkle and ming doyle )
and now for some beautiful art by the ever talented and oh so fashionable tzarohell, also known as sir lawrence gullo. young master lawrence, who is responsible for such beautiful webcomics as my life in blue and baritarian boy, was so kind as to send me a copy of his newest sequential venture, vampire deluxe!, which recently debuted at this year's MoCCA festival in NYC.
( VAMPIRE DELUXE!, by lawrence gullo and david ryder prangley )
not pictured but also included, a very dashing postcard! be sure to give this lovely book a lingering look-over if you get a chance. thanks again, zan! |

[Jun. 25th, 2009|04:34 pm] |
time for a little bit of a work roundup! i don't know how much i'm going to be able to fit in before my typing fingers give up on me, so let's get started. first off on the "WHAT HAS MING BEEN UP TO THESE LAST FEW MONTHS BECAUSE SHE CERTAINLY HASN'T BEEN DRAWING BATMAN CUDDLING BABY PUPPIES LIKE SHE SHOULD, I WOULD'VE NOTICED THAT" is secret identities: the asian american superhero anthology!
i did the art for a 6 page story titled "learn to share," written by the lovely keiko agena of gilmore girls fame. here's an interview keiko and i gave a while back to a gilmore girls fansite all about it.
check below for a sneak peek!
( LEARN TO SHARE, by keiko agena and ming doyle )
also, if you're going to be in NYC on july 11th and have any interest, don't forget to check out the first asian american comiccon in the history of ever!
if you can't make the con, then i hope you get a chance to read the book. it's a wonderful concept that i was happy to be a part of. asian american superpowers, go go go!
phew, that's it for now. i still have a couple of projects to promote and show off, but those will have to wait a bit. thanks again to everyone who's supported me in my fledgling comics career! i appreciate all the goodwill and patience. :) |

In more somber news, my beloved little hamster died today. RIP, Hamish. Long may you dine on sunflower seeds and popcorn kernels and peanuts in the great hamster beyond. I will dearly miss your teensy face.

| a gypsy heart and american antiques. |
[Apr. 23rd, 2009|12:05 pm] |
lo and behold, here is some of that long-promised, mythical "art" i am always speaking of. i don't know what's with me and all these original drawings lately, but i should really buckle down, get my head out of the clouds, get serious, and get back to drawing superhumans in skintight clothing.
until then, please enjoy this vaguely gypsy mystic with two unicorn spirits.

( bigger gypsy heart )
last weekend neil and i celebrated patriots' day by delving head first into some high class americana at main street antiques in plymouth, MA. then there was some time traveling nonsense. you know how these things go. anyway, please feel free to youtube all about it!

| VLOG THE FIRST. |
[Apr. 7th, 2009|02:01 pm] |
last weekend was pretty busy. i recently signed up for the longest sequential commitment of my life to date, so it was good that i was able to fit in one last gasp of free air before buckling down and chaining myself to the ol' photoshop and lightbox for a month.
on saturday, neil and i went into town to check out the boston comic con with neil's pal max. the next day neil recorded a song with a couple of fellow key lemon demon members at the new england institute of art. and because i brought my camera along, you can see and hear all about the aforementioned events in this exciting first installment of my brand new VLOG!
not included in my VLOG because i was pretty pooped by that point was the spectacular comics-drawing and cheese-eating party neil and i went to at joe quinones and maris wicks' place saturday night! tons of fun people showed up to eat, draw, and merrily watch jaws on blissful mute.
here are a couple of warm up drawings i did. neil helped.

| my life in the latter half of march. |
[Mar. 31st, 2009|01:50 pm] |
i spent a big part of this month traveling around with family and friends. i saw endangered species, i swam in the sea, i suffered mild injuries and modeled one very fashionable tee. here's an image-heavy recap for anyone interested in observing an abbreviated photographic record of my exploits. check out more pictures over at my classy facebook album.
1. first stop, florida! my parents and i stayed for a week at a nice little house in punta gorda with its own heated pool owned by one of my dad's pals. the weather was moderately wonderful and i coudn't have asked for more after another long new england winter.
( sweetly sweltering floridian flora and fauna ahoy! ) 2. after florida i flew back home for one day before jetting off to aruba, but during that brief respite i managed to stumble down to kingston for a photoshoot by the wonderful limekle with trapezzoid and binsybaby in support of lemon demon's newest band shirt. the masterpiece's name? "ROCKTOPUS."
( oh, what a splendid sight of many arms we made. ) 3. after that somewhat impromptu modeling and mayhem session, it was back to the airport for me. i flew down to aruba and met up with my soulmate of many years, lisa, and her beautiful family to spend a week lazing about in their timeshare.
( i spent most of that time on the beach, not that you would know it based on my photos. )
and that's a wrap! how's the internet been? |

[Mar. 16th, 2009|11:09 pm] |
hey guys! me, thor, red sonja and a few other gods and/or denizens of the frozen lands are off vacationing in warm and lovely places this month. i don't know where the god of thunder and that she-devil with a sword ended up, but i'm down in punta gorda, florida this week and i'll be in aruba the next. updates may be a bit sparse but i'll be constantly working, so i'll try to upload some sketches whenever the wireless presents itself. whee!
( thor and red sonja, now frighteningly larger. )
ah, but wait. what foul monstrosity is this?
