Brodie and I are reading excerpts from Ariadne auf Naxos at Portland's Central Library tonight. We'll even perform a sneak preview of an as-yet-unpublished third volume which features Baba Yaga, Wolverine, and Atreyu the Warrior.
Tuesday, October 20, 6:30–7:45 p.m. Central Library, U.S. Bank Room Lisa Eisenberg and Julia Gfrörer Mini-comics come alive with author-illustrators Lisa Eisenberg (I Cut My Hair and The Monsters Make a Stew) and Julia Gfrörer (Ariadne auf Naxos and All the Ancient Kings). http://www.multcolib.org/events/zinesters.html |

Last month a gal commissioned me to draw a whale for her tattoo. Here's how it turned out:

Yesterday I made a bunch more teeth to sell on Etsy, got dissed by the Willamette Week, told two old men to shut the fuck up, and then drew a bunch of comics about getting angry with Wolverine. |

I've never sold these online before, though I always have them at my table at conventions, but there were a few left over after last weekend (there almost never are), so I put them up at my etsy store.
The incubus and banshee drawings from "Beastmasters of the Universe" are on sale there, now, too. |

Do any of you live in Sydney, Australia? Would you be willing to pick up three (small, unframed) drawings from this location this week, and mail them to me at your leisure, in exchange for art (it's this drawing, this drawing, and I think this drawing--you could have one and mail me the other two) and/or some money? Do you know somebody who could? Email me quickly please: thorazos at gmail dot com. |

| what the internet thinks of my contribution to Bird Hurdler |
[May. 9th, 2009|03:17 pm] |
"The collection opens with a collection of horror/humor strips by Julia Gfrorer. These are reminiscent of Jeffry Brown in artistic style and pacing, but with a horror bend to them. They are funny, entertaining, and an unexpected introduction to the collection." http://stumptowntradereview.blogspot.com/ *
"Julia Gfrörer opens the book with a series of four-panel comic strips that feature a punchline at the end of every sequence—but also work together to form a longer story that runs for six pages. The dark adventure concerns a woman who eats so many carrots she'll never be the same." http://www.midnightfiction.com/reviews/reviews.htm
"like, for example, bird hurdler, a second strong collection from a coalition of portland’s indie presses. (last year’s edition, you may remember, went by “nerd burglar,” and i’d like to take this opportunity to register my vote that next year’s be titled “word turtler.”) highlights include julia gfroerer’s vivid recollection of her encounter with a witch-king, and theo ellsworth’s harrowing cautionary tale about the peril’s of sharing one’s bed. http://boyblueproductions.com/news/
"We already picked up this awesome collaborative effort from Tugboat Press, SparkPlug Comicbooks and Teenage Dinosaur: “Bird Hurdler”. My favorite story in it is by Julia Gfrorer….but you should check it out for yourself. Happy May day and Happy Free comic book day everyone! Ho ho ho!" http://www.curiocomics.com/archives/221
*This reviewer panned Tim Root's fucking great artwork in Nerd Burglar, which takes some of the sting out of the Jeffery Brown comparison, apt though it may be. |
