So, the teaser trailer's out. Midi's assessment: The special effects look decent. So do the settings. The Fire Nation ships look pretty faithful to the original. Little Noah is living up to his martial arts fame. The music by Track Team utilised a number of martial arts related sounds; this soundtrack sounds more film-epicy-traditional; not necessarily a bad thing. The tattoo was not very visible - I have the feeling it's going to be a repeat of 'Zuko' and his 'scar'. The cape is corny - lighting effects obscuring his face to the last minute would have been more tasteful. NOAH IS TOO CUTE FOR WORDS. Enjoy; May 21st, 2009OMG!!! @ 10:15 am

Yes, yes, I know it's been two months. But work's only begun to slow down now (yes, since October!), so I've only started to resemble a human being in these last few weeks. Unless you count today, since I didn't sleep at all last night ... thanks mum banging in the kitchen ... but on to the fun; I bought a car! It's a Toyota (yay Japan!) Vitz (yay low emissions and consumption!) of the year 2000 (yey low insurance cost!) ... which just so happens to be pink ( -v- .....yes, Midi, your SO-not-girly-girl, has a pink car). But I was looking for cheap, and I got this one for a really low price, so I can't complain too hard. I'm also taking car lessons, and have not killed any squirrels, cats or assorted animals yet. Yey me! I also drove in heavy traffic my last lesson -^v^- I got a twitter too, to try to keep up with here a little bit more... I have to figure out how to make twitter posts here now. Is it a feed, can anyone tell me? And again, my beloved And before anyone asks, I'm on Aang's team. My mamma-bear instincts went haywire with squee when he grinned after the line 'Yes, he's a Fire Nation spy! You can tell by the evil look on his face!' in the very first episode; so no, no Zutara. Nothing against it, because they're still all just kids, but anything Aang wants, Aang gets as far as this mamma-bear is concerned *squishes Aang*. Err... nothing else's happened in my life I suppose. I got to work, I got home. I eat, I wash, I do something on the 'net at nights, I sleep ... repeat. See why I don't post that often? I've been in bed for two weeks. TWO WEEKS. Ung. I had the seasonal flu (the 'Chinese', or whatever other out-of-the-way nationality they're giving it this year), and it laid me up really badly. Had fever and bone pains and everything in the book. Wasn't fun, I'll tell you. Being sick seems to be my occupational interest at the moment, it seems. Hopefully I'll be going back to work on Monday. I was really happy that I managed to go out for a short walk yesterday (well, bundles up, mind you). I'm hoping to go to a Japanese event tomorrow, but that depends on the weather. If it's too cold, I can't risk compromising my return to work Monday *siiiigh* duty before pleasure, I'm afraid! I'm also still out on the hunt for FMP books. Meanwhile, I've been enjoying the series' deadringer music for the A-Team theme song (which is very very apt, anyone who watched it can say).
I'm also damn proud of some research I made recently for/with Kat, where we figured out how to actually make Conan's improbable/impossibly apotoxin sound real. With a healthy dose of poetic license and some hydrogen bonding abuse, but it seems like it could actually work! I'm all caught up with my FMA annotations till the next chapter comes out next week, too. Which is great since I'm back to work Monday and I don't think I'll have the time to play around with it too much. November 6th, 2008So many words, so little time! @ 08:36 pm

I was browsing through Japanese history sites, and decided to pick on Uesugi Kenshin today, just because his name tickled my interest. I started browsing pictures on Google, when I came upon this site. And scrolling down, what do I find but a picture of Takeda Shingen? Well, that is no surprise, since you all know that Takeda was Uesugi's arch rival during the Sengoku. What IS surprising is the outfit the man is wearing. Looking at this painting on wood, it looks like nothing short of back view of Inuyasha. http://www.ganesha.org/hall/shingen.j Hehe, there we have it; the inspiration for Inuyasha. I'd bet my marbles on it. I also found the epithet he had on his banner interesting; Swift as the wind Silent as a forest Fierce as fire Immovable as a mountain (taken from Sun Tsu's 'Art of War'). *strikes pose* Yes, the Japanese History amature geek does it again. October 30th, 2007The day after tomorrow, we're all going to go NaNo! @ 07:08 pm
This year as I've said before, I've decided that I'm seriously going to tackle the NaNoWriMo challenge, as opposed to last year when I flunked it completely. I started asking around to see who was going for it too, and it turned out that both Del and Kat were giving it a go as well. From there on out, it turned out that THEY knew people who were participating too, and it grew from here. For his purpose, I opened up a community; What I would like to ask here are for other authors who follow my lj, and who are NOT participating in NaNo, to join too. There's a simple reason for it; I wish to start a 'Brainstorm Team' for those NaNoers who hit a wall or paint themselves into a corner. It takes a lot of time to brainstorm and other NaNo authors might not have it to spare, so it would be really great if some people decided to join in order to cheer, share the atmosphere and give a hand from time to time when the story needs a shove. So; Pleeeease answer this post and say you'll join out and help? After all, we all became friends through writing. ^v^ October 25th, 2007Things in the life of Midi... @ 08:40 am

So; I've decided that I want to learn how to write with my left hand too. I'm sure it won't help the bloody aching wrist, but I've always been ambidextrous. The only problem is that since at school they decided to train only my right hand, since it was more convenient for them, my left hand now is all out of shape. So I've been writing a page of a lined A4 sheet everyday with 'the quick brown fox'. If i keep at it, I'll be able to start writing neatly by the end of the year. I already write the sentence perfectly legibly as it is - only with the handwriting of a five year old. Not to mention, if I train the motorial impulses of my left hand, I'll be training the right side of my brain too. Maybe I'll start gaining new mental abilities... with the human mind, you never know. I'm also going to participate in NaNoWriMo this year -- properly. Last year I made a hochpoch out of it between work and exams and stuff. This year I want to do it properly. Don't know if I'll win, but hey, can't know till I try. All you NaNos, give me a 'Hoy!'. One of the joys of NaNo is that you can write communally. Even though I wouldn't have the experience of meeting at a cafe` to type furiously, (damnit, why did all my author friends vacate the island, huh?), it might be nice to do it with chat window and web cam! Oh dear guys, I'm so sorry for the long wait! The fact is that I've started a full-time job that keeps me out of the house all day. Next Monday I have the exams for the interpreter's course I'm taking (eeeeeeeeeeeek!) and I've barely had time to breathe in the last five months. I barely know what the light of day looks like. I've got a sorta question; I want to upload some of my writing, so that it doesn't lose the word formatting, but I don't want to use Mediaminer or Ff.net because I want to show it only to a limited number of people. And mm.org messes the word formatting anyway. I've tried to use yahoo briefcase, but it doesn't seem to allow people who are not me to access my files. Do I HAVE to open a geocities site, or something of the sort? I'd really like to be able to put a story somwhere, where people can access it or downloaded once I leave them the URL, without them having to become members or something of the sort (such as would happen if I created a yahoo group) Any suggestions? Is it possible? I just had the worst week of my life. Really. I've been sick since Monday. It started out as a light case of diarrhea, so I took Imodium, and thought I'd tough it out. I had exams tuesday and wednesday, so I really didn't have any other option. Then shit happened - excuse the punny french. Tuesday I woke up worst. I went to my first exam by dragging myself there like a slug - and I looked like an albino according to my mum and friends, lips and all. Wednesday it got better? I think not. I had to miss my second exam because I woke up in the morning with my Colon saying hello to my throat it was so swollen. On Tuesday I'd gone to one doctor, on Wednesday we brought another - who's an idiot with HORRID bedside manners - but my mother swears after him, so come he did. And I was in pain, so I'd have accepted even the idiot with the beard from the Simpsons. Anyway, by yesterday, I was in a terrible state. I ended up having stomach pains too, which some of you know are my downfall. So as God wanted, yesterday I was hospitalised till 2am stuck to a drip and all and given lots of meds with long names, which didn't help as much as it usually does. The stomach pains are still there, and so's the backwaters. I'm taking motilium three times a day, lotsa salt sachets that only manage to make my stomach angrier, and Isostar. Oh, and have I also mentioned that I haven't eaten anything since Tuesday? Yeah, that. I'm tense as a violin chord because a) I missed that blasted exam, and b) I start a new job Monday (at uni, as a secretary, and I'm bloody scared spitless that I'll make a mess of things); tension goes right to my stomach, so that's not helping. I'm feeling a little better because I spent my afternoon watching Shreck, and I have all the intention of watching Stuart Little and Pirates otC 2 and Spiderman 2 (I'm a sucker for cute movies and ones where there are cute men, possibly attired in form fitting garments. Bite me.) I'm also planning to have a loooong hot shower now that I'm less likely to keel over and drown. Oh, and did I mention that I have an exam for consecutive interpretation in the bloody MORNING in two weeks time, and now I have a DAY JOB which I'm only going to have been on for a WEEK after going without a day job for four darn months? Yeah, I've got quite a cake here, haven't I? And I can't even eat it cos my stomach AND intestines are being contrary. December 25th, 2006Christmas post! @ 11:39 pm

I'm creating a meme, because I have a huge headache from my course and I'm easily amused! Don't try to find the connection... Read the following list of literary characters that resemble me, and answer this post with the equivalent you'd give to yourself. Then post it to your own lj for other people to join in! In answer to your comment, I will answer with the list of characters I see in you! 1) The Literary character you found most affinity with, and most resemble in all aspects: 2) The Literary character you'd most like to resemble: 3) The Literary character that has been a role-model while you grew up: 4) The Literary character that has most entertained you in the past five years : 5) The Literary character you'd fancy as a spouse quite willingly: 6) The Literary character you find yourself thinking about when the annoying neighbour/co-worker strolls by: 7) The Literary character that has as many bad hair-days as you do: 8) The Literary character who will, if offered, order your favourite tea/meal/dessert: 9) The Literary character who's dress sense most resembles yours: 10) The Literary character you'd love to have as a lover (unbeknowest to your dear spouse): 1) Mary Russell, from LR King's Russell + Holmes series. She is modern, wears trousers in the 1920s, wears specks, is a bookworm extraordinair, has curly hair with a temper to match, is tall and gangling with long feet and leans towards intelligent guys for beau interest... litarary midi, says I! 2) Liz Bennet, from J Austen's 'Pride and Prejudice'. 'Nuff said. 3) Fantastic Mr Fox, from Illustrious Mr Dahl's book, as well as the poor boy in 'The Witches' whose name I forgot. Of course, both closely monitored by Jane Eyre and Gandalf. 4) Oh, I suppose the boy from Graham Green's 'The Basement room'. Such a total emo bollock, that little guy was. I was thoroughlly amused by his tragedies. Oliver Twist ... was more amusing in the Polanski version than the Dickens one, so one can imagine. 5) Here, I come to a little of a severe knot... Sherlock Holmes looks snazzy, my kind of guy really - but Lord Peter is fair competition. Not to mention that Takeo from the Otori series is high on the list himself. Of course, Mr Janus will punt them all not-so-politely out the moment he becomes properly 'literary'. 6) Katherine The Shrew, from 'Taming of the Shrew'. I CANNOT stand it when women are made to suffrage to such extremes that it turns into an affair of ridicule. 7) Elain Risley, from Margareth Atwood's 'Cat's Eye'. Me and her had very similar childhoods, sanse foot-shave. 8) Probably Porthos. We both have a perchance of love for fattening, expensive food. (though not for old widows; that is his alone). 9) Hard to believe, but Miss Jean Brodie, from Muriel Spark's pen. 10) Ohhh, the list never ends. Dupin, Lord Shigeru from the Otori series, Athos from Three Musketeers (although he tends to get overly possessive, doesn't he?)... And for those who know him, one Mrs Stringfellow's gallant Francisco Bolle. ( Classic story character meme ) Also, if anyone has any stray thought about sending me anything for Xmas - first thing, cancel it, because I hate to think that you spent money on me that you might have needed elsewhere, and secondly, if you feel that you must, put me out of my misery and get me (you guessed it) books from the Mary Russell series. ^v^' I only own three right now - The Moor I've read, and the Game I won't touch until I get 'The beekeeper's apprentice' and all the other five books before it, the former being the first book of the list which I ordered a few days ago from www.abe.com. I take this occasion to pimp them. If you're not a Holmsian (or Sherlockian, if you're not British) purist and love your pastiche and strong female character, then you'll love what Laurie R King did with this series of books. She (Mary Russell) is shockingly similar to Miss Bennet, while being altogether modern (she wears trousers! and spectacles! and is a bookworm! She's a literary Midi, really). Not to mention, she gets to catch a mysogenist chovenist like our Holmes in the sack without even meaning to - simply by pulling an Iren Adler on him several realistic times. I'm really looking forward to you guys participating in this! ^V^ And someone point Ren this way, will ya? I know he's lurking somewhere in the Dupin-ish corners of Lj, but I can't spot him, and I think he'd snicker over this. ANGST MOMENT: NOOOOO~! ![]() What type of Bishounen are you? Find out at artificial-soul.net by Rin. Fnarrr, I was thinking of someone else when I did this... mainly Kakashi.... Because yes, my ever loving sister, who knows I'm going to be supere busy this year, hooked me up on a new manga/anime; Naruto. I couldn't stand the guy at first. I thought he was a total dunghead, and that the series was dedicated to a lower screened age-range than mine. Then the Zabusa arc started ... and I was slightly taken. So when I was going to miss an episode (on Italia Uno, italians dub really well), I didn't want to risk missing something good if it happened, so I went to look on youtube to watch the episode (16 at the time). I ended up finding all the episodes and watching them. Yeah. I'm hooked bad now. I watched all of part one, and then I was scrambling the net to find scanlations of part 2 in manga form, since it hasn't come out in anime form yet. The little blond brat's grown on me too - it's NICE to have a main character who can be a total wuss sometimes, and who doesn't get it most of the times, and who DOESN'T constantly beat the bad guys (that's Sasuke... and I honestly hate his guts.) He's a regular boy, who's seen hell, but managed to remain a hard-headed dunderhead, who has to train hard in order to get things, not uses some superior blood or liniage or power to get where he needs to. Sure, there's the kyuubi, one might say, but that doesn't exactly do good things with bling bling for him except shorten his life... New Manga scanlations come out on the Naruto msngroup on Fridays, and Inuyasha's on Wednesday. I'm a true geek now, mamma. Just to ask, is there anyone else here who follows it? Raindrops are like many tiny lights that shine as they fall down, like precious crystals as they catch the light with an internal splendor of their own. Their life is short; when they leave the cloud their womb, they only shine once before they hit the ground and die. But so many eyes see them shine, and so many eyes remember their light. 9/11 will never again be just a number, a date, or the day you marked 'it rained, damn' on your calendar anymore. 9/11 is for droplets - many raindrops that fell down shining from the windows, and many teardrops that shone with them. We will never forget, and their light will keep shining even after they hit the ground. Peace out. July 10th, 2006Italia Campioni Del Mondo! @ 02:56 pm

Second ever rec on this LJ - Yes, this fic is just that good. Title: Half Breed Author: Janine C. Funk. URL: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2177345/1/ Summary: Child of the wilderness, born into emptiness. Learn to be lonely... Learn to love life that is lived alone. A story about Inuyasha's past. Rated for language and violence. This is something you don't see everyday; a well told story of Inuyasha's childhood. No coddling, no extra weepy moments, just harsh reality as it probably was for him growing up. The author has also obviously done her homework, with the proper terms used for all the articles of furniture, clothing, and even the proper area names to the old prefunctures. It was last updated on the 27th of June, so not much far away. There is a poingency to the reality of this story that quite literally hurts. It's a good, adult read of a multi-facetted story. This post is basically because I'm fed up of people calling me 'insane', and I'm fed up of people looking down their nose at me when I tell them my theories based on Inuyasha's age. My theory states that I believe Inuyasha to be a lot older than 15, based on the clothes his mother wore in his memories. My guess is as good as yours and I actually researched history, so get off my freaking case. This clothing style was repeating around the 1400s as an attempt to revive the court to its ancient glory, therefore the combination is possible. I have my doubts on the hair, but not on the clothes. We were missing a place were we could have a good chat over good fanfiction with good concrit and cup of Earl Gray. *grins* It's a forum with concrit for concrit writers and concrit lovers. We don't go pansy assed on people, but flames are intrinsically forbidden. Aristotle's Golden Mean's a nice place to be, ain't it? April 21st, 2006To the occupants.. @ 10:46 am

I got into a little Shakey-boy Play hunt with my friend Super Ceech today, which reminded me that it's about time I follow through with that little plan of mine to periodically put some of my favourite sonnets of his up, since I find them so beautiful. C. (100) Where art thou, Muse, that though forgott'st so long To speak of that which gives thee all thy might? Spend'st thou thy fury on some worthless song, Darkening thy power to lend base subjects light? Return, forgetful Muse, and straight redeem In gentle numbers time so idly spent: Sing to the ear that doth thy lays esteem, And gives thy pen both skill and argument. Rise, resty Muse, my love's sweet face survey, It Time have any wrinkles graven there; If any, by the satire to decay, And make Time's spoils despised everywhere. Give my love fame faster than Time wastes life; So thou prevent'st his scythe and crooked knife. There's the first. It's not my favourite, but it seems appropriate, considering my Muse is being caustic and constipated. That may probably be because I'm sticking needle and thread into him and not letting him near the mead cos it will stain him... but meh *winks at aoi*. April 18th, 2006Literary Pastries @ 02:37 pm
Piccy post! I just wanted to show you guys some traditional Easter pastries that are baked here in Malta, called figolli, and that came out looking rather decent considering i had to decorate them with still-runny icing and a spoon, 'cos the icing bag split down the middle ^v^' ( if you're on a diet, don't click! yummies underneath! ) Oh, and now a general question; Has anyone read the spiderwick chronacles? I have a book by one of the authors of that series, Holly Black, called 'tithe' which I bought to read this summer. I don't have the time to read it now to see if I like it, but the spiderwick seems rather well known, and i'm wondering if i should buy the book after 'tithe', 'Valiant', now that I can still find it with the same series cover, or if it's not worth it. April 17th, 2006I am WAY too amused with this! @ 12:57 pm

Juke Box Playing: Adam Pascal - something of ours
I lately encountered this story, and I've been pimping it around like a drunken madame because it's just so awsome! Here's the link; http://www.mediaminer.org/fanfic/view_s And the summary: An AU riff on the anime. Celestial Bodyguard Kagome Higurashi, recent graduate of the Imperial Military Academy, finds all of her skills being put to the test in the Sengoku Jidai after she's sucked down the well at her family's shrine. The story is an Alternate Reality, because it takes only one element of the original plot line and changes it around, but it profoundly effects the rest of the story. Enjoy, cos Fennikusuken rocks! I plead guilty of meme! @ 12:02 am

*re-reads through the last two chapters of the Inuyasha manga* *ponders* Holy turnip, does this mean that Miroku's going to die anyway, whether they defeat Naraku or not? Or will the 'wounds of shouki' heal the moment baboon-boy dies too, like the Kazaana? *ponders some more* February 28th, 2006Double Bunny, double happy! @ 07:01 pm

holy bat-carp.... the chinese couple figure scating on Madame Butterfly moved me to tears. If they don't win, I'll be forced to do something drastic. Like cry. EDIT: Tripple wow! The last chinese couple.. she fell, practically ripped her knee's internal tendon, got up, cried out in pain, stopped for barely two minutes and went on scating with tipple haxels and tripple tolops to a silver medal! My gods.. I could practically see her knee swelling as she skated... wow. Just wow. The Russians won, but hell, they went behind the curtain as far as I'm concerned @v@ memeness @ 04:03 pm
