Вот какой у меня к вам вопрос: попадались ли вам на российских дореволюционных рекламных вывесках и плакатах картины и рисунки западных художников того времени? И как, интересно, тогда решался вопрос авторских прав?

| Rollback to XP...... |
[May. 16th, 2008|11:45 pm] |
I spent part of yesterday afternoon making backup copies of my data. This morning, I had a copy of Windows XP with Service Pack 1 that I installed on my system. Service Pack 2 was on a separate disk, and when I went to Windows update, discovered that Service Pack 3 had been released. I had to find and use the drivers CD that came with my system. I didn't install everything I had under Vista, but I think I have enough for me to be able to move forward for the next couple of weeks. That is, once I get the built-in Tomcat server configured.
Ah well. This beats whining about all those "out of heap space" errors I was getting, and not being productive.
Does any of this make sense to anyone out there? |

| Easing on down the Path of Study in ADF |
[May. 16th, 2008|11:08 am] |
Over the past weekend at Desert Magic, I was fortunate to sit around and banter about a variety of things with some great minds within ADF. And, because you all know me, no one will be surprised that we spoke about the current state of ADF's study programs.
Now that we have people working on Second Circle Clergy Training Program courses (and by Wellspring there will be at least one more person, with several more shortly after that), it's becoming more pressing to make sure that the courses are ready to go.
The CTP Outline shows how many classes need to be approved for Second Circle: four out of 12 are listed as "unwritten," though that word doesn't really indicate the fact of the matter.
There are completed requirement sets undergoing fine-tuning before presentation for three of those four, meaning that, really, only one class is still outstanding in the second circle of the CTP.
When Kirk and I sat down to revisit the Liturgist Guild Study Program last Sunday (and others joined us, notably Ceisiwr Serith, whose input was/is invaluable when it comes to liturgy), we hammered out five new courses, three of which should transfer directly into the Third Circle of the CTP as well (should the Clergy Council wish to go that route). We're also revisiting the structure of the original LGSP, which had a few issues. Fortunately, it won't affect current students at all.
It looks like only one course is left for the LGSP second Circle, and druidkirk is working hard on that one. We may have a lot of stuff done for our students by Summerland.
I'm excited to see where we can take this program, and where other programs will go as well. |

| What kind of accent do you have? |
[May. 15th, 2008|10:37 pm] |
| What American accent do you have? Your Result: The Midland "You have a Midland accent" is just another way of saying "you don't have an accent." You probably are from the Midland (Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri) but then for all we know you could be from Florida or Charleston or one of those big southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas. You have a good voice for TV and radio. | | The Inland North | | | The South | | | The West | | | The Northeast | | | Philadelphia | | | Boston | | | North Central | | What American accent do you have? I can't get any work done today.
For the past several weeks, I've been getting "out of heap space" errors when I try to run code through the debugger. This is despite me having 3 Gb of memory on my machine.
The Eclipse startup icon on my desktop has the following command: C:\eclipse\eclipse\eclipse.exe -vmargs -Xms512M -Xmx768M -XX:PermSize=256M -XX:MaxPermSize=512M
Everything I’ve seen on the Web about this suggests I boost up the parameters. I think I’ve boosted them as high as I can go. (I tried 1024M and the virtual machine wouldn’t start.) I even tried running MyEclipse 6.0.1, but I'm still getting the out of heap space errors.
Another big factor is that I'm the only one in the office running Vista and IE 7, because the machine came with it pre-installed. Everyone else is running XP, and not having problems.
I therefore deem Vista not suitable for Java software development with Eclipse. |

| | accomplished | ] | When I last talked about this project, I was in the process of updating my email address on as many lists as I could find myself subscribed to with my old email address. Many of the lists were gracious enough to provide links in their messages to websites from where I could change the address myself. And for the few that didn't, I'll either unsubscribe from them or let them deal with my bounced messages.
I get very few messages of interest at my old email address now. I delete the ones that look like spam to me, and that's saved me a lot of downloading time. I should have started doing that a long time ago.
I'm also updating my business cards, with the help of a rubber stamp kit. I set up my new email address in the stamp, and have been stamping the business cards, along with putting a line through the old email address.
I should be getting a bill from my old ISP early next month. At that time, I'll tell them my intention to let my account lapse, and give them my reasons why. |

This Saturday I'll be competing to become one of the WA Delegates going to the Democratic National Convention in August. I would really appreciate it if you could sign up on my website as a supporter: http://www.votealison.com/supporters.html
You don't have to be a Democrat, support Obama, or even live in the US to be listed as one of my supporters, and your age doesn't matter. This is not legally binding in any way. To be a supporter, you only need to be willing to say that you support my *personal* campaign to become a National Delegate.
You could have a Goth girl representing you as a National Delegate!
I'll be emailing the other delegates on Thursday afternoon, and I'd love to be able to impress them with as big a list as possible! Feel free to pass the link on to your friends.
You can read more about my campaign at http://www.votealison.com
Your support would mean a lot to me. Thank you! |

Okay, this is just stupid. I keep telling myself that I'm going to go through all my friends' LJs one by one and catch up and make comments, then I keep not doing it. Then more and more time goes by. And I don't want to read or comment until I have gone back and caught up in sequential order, so I don't read (except a glance now and then) and of course I don't comment.
But that is SILLY. So, I am now going to read and comment on current stuff (when I can), then maybe go back and catch up eventually. I'm letting my guilt feelings about being a bad LJ friend overwhelm me, which makes me avoid LJ more, and thus adds to my guilt. lol
This isn't quite as crazy as perhaps it sounds; I mean it lightly. I'm writing it with a wry smile, which you can't see. |

| Pan lives! |
[May. 13th, 2008|11:51 am] |
I am back, and oh, how I have missed everyone!
The laptop had a lobotomy, and we have all the data backed up from the original. I will be getting a new hard-drive, to make sure this doesn't happen again, and the laptop has been wiped clean. I am so relieved. Also, my site was suspended temporarily, as I didn't have access to funds, but all is restored. I hope no one was too worried!
Plenty of news, unfortunately plans have not progressed too much further with Operation:Scotland. We are still waiting on financial things to sort out on both ends, but we are working as hard as may be on getting ready to be together. My bonnie lies over the ocean, heh.
He recorded the following for me some time ago, and I asked if I could share it with you, now that I have a working computer again.
Tam o' Shanter As read by hairyscotsman
Shall be working to catch up, but seeing as I have a friends list over 200 large, it will be a challenge. If there is anything very important that I missed, let me know? Also, if you haven't given me your number since the new phone in February and you want me to have it, please email it over. |

Every day, around 3pm to 4pm, I get hungry. It's about 3-4 hours after lunch, and it's not quite dinner yet. But dammit, I wanna eat something.
Does this happen to other people? If so, what do you do to combat it? Or do you give in? |
