To all you emokids.

It seems like there are two types of people now days.. emokiddies and emokiddie haters.
I have wondered for quite some time how many people truly realize what emo is.
Are you using it to describe yourself or your music?
Do you have any idea what the TRUE emo music is?
Any idea who the first emo bands were or even when they started?
Excuse me for my rant, but I know ( especially within my group of friends ) this really irks alot of people.
A few more questions :)
Do you even know what the difference or if there's a difference between regular emo and emo-core?
Do you know what emo violence is?
Do you know what screamo is?
You're not emo if you dye your hair black, start wearing a scarf, and lock yourself in your room to listen to depressing music.
Being metrosexual does not make you emo.
Your haircut does not make you emo.

Emo is another stereotype, like gothic, preppy, or even skanky.
Just be yourself, listen to what you want to listen to, dress how you want to dress and forget the labels, but if you won't at least know exactly what you're calling yourself. Know what true emo is before you assume that identity.

thanks :)

Edit: This is bits of a conversation on DD after reading my LJ

[4:20pm] (Martyr): the question i always ask emo people is where did the term come from
[4:20pm] (Martyr): no one really knows the answer
[4:20pm] (DemonKing): lol
[4:20pm] (Dark_Jackal): XD
[4:20pm] (Liquid): or what about for people who make obsured remarks like that because they see fat people getting attention and want some themselves
[4:20pm] (Martyr): its the same thing as people calling themselves "scene" kids
[4:21pm] (Liquid): wtf is a scene kid o.O
[4:21pm] (Liquid): damn man where all these new things coming from
[4:21pm] (Martyr): its all labels that middle brow middle aged profiteers use to sell products
[4:21pm] (Liquid): yeah thats about right
[4:21pm] (DemonKing): lol
[4:21pm] (Martyr): through careful research and corporate planning
[4:21pm] (moonstone): i thought emo meant emotional
[4:21pm] (Martyr): it does
[4:21pm] (Liquid): Mp³:[Depeche Mode -LIE TO ME][320kbps][11.65mb][5:05]
[4:21pm] (DemonKing): I always thought that too
[4:21pm] (Emokiddie): no
[4:21pm] (Liquid): man what happend to kids being kids
[4:21pm] (Emokiddie): it started in like.. the 80's
[4:22pm] (Martyr): but no one knows who started it/where it came from
[4:22pm] (Liquid): why the fuck do they need all this shit
[4:22pm] (Emokiddie): in refrence to a music genre
[4:22pm] (Dark_Jackal): NowPlaying_Ozone - Dragostea Din Tei|NN|NN|56kbPS|NNMP3Player|
[4:22pm] (Emokiddie): and the fans of it
[4:22pm] (Martyr): yeah it all started with Culture Club
[4:22pm] (DemonKing): oOo, this is like going back to school
[4:22pm] (Martyr): thats where id put the vegas odds for that one
[4:22pm] (Liquid): !google what the fuck is emo and when did it start
[4:22pm] (Mary_Jane): http://www.sandiegopunk.com/interviews/pistolgripinterview.php
[4:22pm] (moonstone): all new things coming = unbrilliant marketing
[4:22pm] (Martyr): its like what icp does for young angry and confused adolcents
[4:23pm] (Martyr): emo works in the same way
[4:23pm] (Martyr): it gives young emotional, confused kids something to call themselves
[4:24pm] (Emokiddie): but yet they take offense to being called gothic
[4:24pm] (Emokiddie): when in reality the sterotypes cross so much
[4:24pm] (Liquid): yeah they do
[4:24pm] (Martyr): yeah
[4:24pm] (DemonKing): Gothic people are rather interesting, it's like a religion but no higher power

Confess

Post anything that you want, and post it anonymously. Anything. A story, a secret, a confession, a fear, a love -- anything. Be sure to post anonymously and honestly. Post twice if you'd like. Then, put this in your LJ to see what your friends (and perhaps others who you don't even realize read your LJ) have to say.
