| | . | | The New Orleans Fringe Festival, November 13-16, will be an extraordinary four days of theater, performance art and spectacle. Forty groups from around the country and New Orleans will be presenting over 120 shows in venues across the city, primarily in the Marigny, Bywater and French Quarter. The shows include the exotic, the dramatic and the insane: drama, dance, one-person shows, cabaret, comedy, puppetry, clowning, improvisational, aerialist and many other creative works.
Venues include traditional theaters as well as unusual spaces: Marigny Theatre, the Sidearm Gallery, the Hi-Ho Lounge, the North Rampart Community Center, Nola Candle Factory, the Skull Club, Le Chat Noir, On Piety, Maw-Maw the Chicken Memorial Theatre, Voodoo Mystere Lounge, and others. All performances are $7 each and run between 30 and 60 minutes. Tickets are available online at www.nofringe.org, at the door before each show, or at the Fringe Circus Tent during the festival. The Fringe Circus Tent is the heart of the Festival; it is an antique big-top where audience members and performers can mingle over refreshments, read audience reviews, and enjoy free entertainment; it will be located at the corner of Press and Dauphine Streets in the Marigny. Other free Fringe activities during the Festival include the Goodchildren Social Aid and Pleasure Club Fringe Parade down St. Claude at 10 am on November 15th, and later that day an outdoor children’s stage with free performances of puppetry, slack rope walkers and aerialists, hosted by the St. Claude Main Street Project from 2-5 pm on Saturday, November 15th. | | | |
| | | Sayings from the Life and Writings of Junebug Jabbo Jones |
"There is a genuineness to O'Neal's performance and to his play which assures us that this Southern folk play sprang right from the very dirt of the dusty cotton fields he talks about." –Tom Mason, Anniston (Alabama) Star
This weekend, do yourself a favor and attend a rare performance by on of our nation's living legends, John O'Neal. As part of the Fringe Festival, John is inhabited by the mythical hero and storyteller Junebug Jabbo Jones who brings a dazzling array of characters to stage. All shows at Scotty Heron's Sidearm Gallery.
11/13 7:00 pm 11/15 7:00 pm 11/16 8:30 pm
About Junebug
Since 1963, John O'Neal has been a leader in the field of artists working in community and a leading advocate of the view that "politics" and "art" are complementary, not opposing terms. His work as a writer, performer and director has taken him to audiences throughout North America, Europe and Africa. He is the founder and artistic director of Junebug Productions, the organizational successor to the Free Southern Theater of which O'Neal was also a co-founder and director. O'Neal was a Field Secretary of the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) and worked as an organizer with the United Church of Christ Committee for Racial Justice. O'Neal has authored twelve plays, several essays and poetry. He has numerous credits as an actor and has toured widely as the mythic character, Junebug Jabbo Jones, a character that was created by people involved in SNCC to symbolize the wisdom of common people.

| | What is I-Witness Central City? | | While news broadcasts depict Central City as a hot spot for violence and crime, those who live or work in this neighborhood know it to be much more. At 7 PM on October 28th, 2008, New Orleanians from across the metropolitan area will gather at the Ashe’ Cultural Arts Center for the opening of I-Witness Central City, an ongoing StoryMapping project that aids local residents in reclaiming their history and neighborhoods through sharing personal, site-specific stories. This night will feature films and multi-disciplinary performances from local artists in addition to introducing the public to our online story maps and a new cell-phone walking tour. The stories that make up I-Witness Central City are the personal histories of the places that constitute Central City as told by residents of the area. The evening will be a celebration of Central City involving live storytelling, music, dance, theatre, food and cutting-edge mixed media techniques.
Why?
As New Orleanians well know, every street corner, front porch, abandoned warehouse or crowded restaurant in this city houses a gamut of stories. These stories make up New Orleans' cultural identity just as much as our music, our architecture and our gumbo, but often these tales exist only within the people who've lived them. I-Witness Central City seeks to open up these living and breathing personal histories to a wider audience. Kids growing up in Central City today might never know about the jazz funeral that the Free Southern Theatre held for itself in 1980 or who painted the murals of civil rights workers under the I-10 overpass. We believe that every story contains a vital thread of our collective memory, and through sharing these narratives we come to better understand our community and ourselves. I-Witness Central City presents an opportunity for residents to celebrate their neighborhood, while offering outsiders a whole new way of understanding this historic area of New Orleans.
| | | |
| | Save the date! |
| | | |
| | Story Site Neighborhood Tours | | Take a walk around Central City and keep your eyes peeled for signs like this one. Those signs denote places where a story happened. Listed on each sign is a phone number and extension. Pull out your phone, dial the number, and listen as the storyteller narrates what went down exactly where you’re standing.

… well well…It seems my new little adventure departure date is getting closer.
I’ll be bumming around Europe for a month or two…maybe three depending on whether we find work out there…or kindred spirits to kick it with…or…well…one day at a time – as always.
Here are some of the places we plan to hit, so if anyone’s in or around these parts of town around Sept/Oct…let me know.
Most stuff out there is just a train ride away.
We’ll be focusing on Culture, Documentaries, Music/ mandolins, Languages, Mountains, Oceans, People, following laughter…and just floating around.
Here’s the latest itinerary from Bobby (this time’s traveling buddy)…but it changes daily…and we plan until we get there…the moment we set foot on ground, we let the stars and moon guide us.
· Arrive in London (try to meet w/ Jsin & Kip)
· W. to Ireland (try to find bob)
· Head N. to Scottland
· S. (ferry) to Rotterdam/ Amsterdam
· S.E. to Germany (jonathan's sister)
· S.E. to Czech Rep. (Prague)
· N.E. to Poland
· S. Slovakia
· S. Hungary (*Budapest)
· S.E. (Get to Greece some how)
· W. (maybe Morocco with buddy from netherlands)
· Ferry to Italy (show magdalena around ;)
· N. to France (visits natalie)
· S. Spain/ Portugal
· N. Switzerland
· Fly back home from Belgium (waffles)
All on a backpack, a mandolin and a couple ov’ power-bars for the rails.

I beez buzzin back!
Okidok, so I've been on seclusion, for waaaay too long.
I've gone on some trips recently, worked on a few interesting things etc.
I've also been writing tons of garbage. If its pertaining to acting Im going to post it here, but if its just poems, brain hiccups, stories etc, Im gonna post them on this little new one i created : http://melisawords.livejournal.com/profile ... its better for me to keep everything organized.
I rather keep my acting stuff separated for people looking up my website trying to find out information on acting only, besides, this journal is linked directly to my website.
If they get curious and start to wander, then they'll eventually click on the writing page, but that's up to them.
So if anyone feels like wondering' a bit deeper into my brain, just click on the new little journal.
I'll write some garbage about the Mexico trip on there too.

An article on a film we shot recently 'Cannibal Sisters'
WOOOO HOOOOOO!
Here's the link
CANNIBAL SISTERS - the best tagline ever?
Based on a true-life 1992 Atlanta murder case that remains unsolved, "Cannibal Sisters" stars Natalie Cardona ("Scab"), Mitsu Bitchi ("Disaster For Xmas"), Melisa Cardona ("Socks And Violence") and Monica Puller ("PsychoVixens") as a bizarre clan of flesh-hungry siblings whose grungy apartment becomes invaded by a hapless male criminal who has no idea what he's stumbled upon!
Madness, torture, revenge and good eatin' are just a few of the things you can expect when "Cannibal Sisters" appears in fall 2006 as part of Freak Productions' anthology "Faces Of Schlock 3".
Oh yeah: genre author/journalist Arinn Dembo makes her film debut in this movie!

SOCKS & VIOLENCE
|
  |
by T.W. Anderson (2006-03-31) |
| 2006, Un-rated, 28 minutes, Gonzoriffic Films |
To some the most ominous thing about a pair of used gym socks is the rank stench, but to Director Andrew Shearer and his Gonzoriffic filmmaking collective, dirty old gym socks hold far more sinister powers. This sequel to Gonzoriffic’s 2004 short Disaster for Christmas follows the further adventures of Rodney (Monica Puller) and her lesbian lover- cum-demon Lemora (Mitsu Bitchi). Lemora is the human embodiment of Blitzen, Santa’s thirteenth reindeer who after glimpsing a mass of cleavage from above left the merry fold to pursue the wanton lust of buxom beauties. It is the spirit of Blitzen that first possessed Rodney’s worn-thru socks and later the flesh and blood of Lemora.
In this latest installment, Rodney and Lemora are having trouble acclimating to life as a couple. It seems that Lemora is fed up with lazing around the house while Rodney shows no interest in introducing her demon-reindeer-lover to friends and co-workers. If that weren’t enough, their bizarre domestic bliss is about to be impacted by the arrival of Cupid (Melisa Cardona), rogue reindeer spirit and minion of Satan, whose only goal is to return Lemora/Blitzen back to the flames of eternal damnation. What will Rodney do? How can she ever stop the supernaturally evil Cupid? Who cares!!! It’s all the guns, girls, socks and violence you can possibly stand…and then some!
The hallmark of Gonzoriffic films anarchic pursuit of celluloid infamy is always grounded in the bust-a-gut performances of the cast. In Socks & Violence, Gonzoriffic leading ladies Monica Puller and Mitsu Bitchi save little side splitting for the gag reel as their brilliant embodiments of Rodney and Lemora are so organic and effortless, it looks like they have been at this gig for 20 years. Puller plays straight (no pun intended) to Bitchi’s ADD inspired Anime interpretations, which in and of itself is no easy task. In fact, Bitchi’s eye movement alone is enough to cause the casual viewer unexpected attacks of motion sickness. In addition, Puller’s perfectly timed bouts of sarcasm and stonefaced expressionism exact as much laughter as empathy. Melisa Cardona plays her vampy Cupid with a maniacal aplomb that’s so outrageously camp it borders on obscene. Cara Lott rounds out the cast as both Alison, the unsuspecting friend that Rodney brings over to sate Lemora’s whining, and Satan. With two winning portrayals under her belt, Lott very nearly steals the show with the best beat of dialogue delivery I’ve seen in forever.
Director Andrew Shearer has had quite a few films to get his formula of cinematic chaos right, but with the gunplay, special effects shots and computer-generated pyrotechnics, Socks & Violence stands up proud as an epic tour de force of no-budget filmmaking.
The DVD edition of the film includes the aforementioned gag reel along with the three original shorts, which introduce the legend of Blitzen and the psychosexual socks. The cast and crew provide audio commentary for all four films and the DVD boasts two Easter eggs, the first featuring a kick ass trailer and the second, just features some random ass kicking as Mitsu and Monica spar in the woods outside an apartment complex – serving as just another prime example of casual randomness that makes Gonzoriffic films unequaled in their sheer brilliance and lunacy.

There’s something about making movies….yes.
Then there’s something about making movies with friends….yes yes.
Then there’s something about making movies with friends from the Gonzo crew… … … (Speechless)
I told my buddy midday on Friday:
“If you see my clone, tell that bitch to call me, cause I need her azz RIGHT NOW!!!”
It was busy last Thursday and Friday…2 hours of sleep in 48 hours type busy…14 hr drive out of town type busy…3 auditions racked up in the same day type busy...The type of busy that I’d need 100 hours of sleep just to catch up.
…but…after shooting w/ the folks I shot with over the weekend, it all went away…
Its weird…I dunno…
One time I was asked what heaven would be like for me, if I got to paint it all my way….
I didn’t have the answer back then…but Im certain that I do now.
God would grab me and shove me into a room, throw some friends, some family, a script, a camera, some lights, fake blood, oatmeal puke and then he’d yell:
*ACTION*
…and we’d all start playing like kids again…just like we did this weekend.
Thanks to the Gonzorrific Crew.
I Love you all, and words can’t express how honored I feel to be welcomed and treated as a part of such an awesome gang of film lovers and film makers – cause that’s what its about.
