I leave for Toronto in 4 days. Dorm sluts and keggers here I come.

I bought a mac book pro, and a snobby carrying bag. I plan to just carry the empty bag around most days to prove to people that I am in fact vastly superior to them in hipness. I thought about maybe carrying a starbucks late, and wearing sweater vests, but I think my body may start rejecting itself.

Dexter Season 2 plus a pot of coffee= good way to spend a wednesday night.

AMPERSAND. [Aug 20 2008 / 3:05pm]

So I've been at Dan and Trisha's house since yesterday evening, and they're both at work now... so I'm playing a shit-ton of Wii, and snuggling kitties. I forgot to put my labret stud back in after showering yesterday, so it may not make it back in later. It's been out over a day, and it's pretty hard to get back in when it's out that long.

Other than that there isn't much that is new. But I can't stop sneezing... and Lee says that he bought me a katamari charm that arrived in the mail yesterday. So cute. Him, and the charm, bahaha. I am also trying to arrange hangouts with [info]nobly tonight, as our plans for today kind of got shot, as I am stranded on the west side (though happily!).

Baron Von Goolo wants YOU! [Aug 20 2008 / 1:33am]

[goddessmikhail]
Is Halloween your favorite holiday? Or do you just get a huge kick out of
dressing up and scaring the holy h-e-double-hell out of people? Then you
might want to hang out at FrightTown this September and October.

The FrightTown haunted house is the biggest and scariest haunted house in
the whole Portland metro, and we'll be reopening our doors at the Portland
Memorial Coliseum on Saturday, October 4, for a whole new season of thrills
and screams. Not too many people realize that all that horror is actually a
non-profit production by the 1031 Community Theatre - and every year about
this time we look far and wide for the best and scariest new volunteers we
can find. We have positions for actors, set decorators, set builders, makeup
artists, costume designers and more, for every level of experience from rank
amateur to polished pro. And since we're a local non-profit arts collective,
if your school or company has some sort of community service requirement, we
can help you meet it by scaring the crap out of people. That's a good deal.

Preparations have already begun and we'll be starting Scare School training
soon. Go to 1031theatre.org or frighttown.com for more details, or if you
want to sign up, click on the banner below.

Happy Halloween!

Since I’ve been kicking the tires on every else’s plans… [Aug 19 2008 / 4:10pm]

zombie_survival

[hekidanjo]

First issue is getting to fortress Heki. Assuming ZDay happens on a weekday, it adds a wrinkle. I am lucky enough to live 4.5 miles from my house and happily my wife works between these two points. Useful gear I have on hand to get me home: a two shot pepper spray, a Glock 33 (9 shot .357SIG), a Surefire G2 flashlight and a first aid kit. I drive a Ford Mustang so while I expect the roads to begin to clog fairly quickly, I figure I can at least make it to my wife’s office in fairly short order, leaving me around 3 miles on foot. If the roads haven’t clogged, we’ll ditch my car there and take off in her Chevy HHR. It’s rather quick and has a LOT more cargo space than mine.

Once we’ve arrived, she can set to work barricading the windows and the rear door while I give a quick patrol. We live atop a hill and have good visibility and while living near the interstate hasn’t been kind to property values, it renders my eastern approach secure until zombies cooperate or use tools. Once we are sure the house is secure and that there are no immediate threats we begin to fill everything we can with water. The good news is that being a home brewer, I can store 30 gallons of water before turning to a trash can (we have one 32 gallon can used exclusively for recycling). If we lose water pressure before we get every vessel in the house filled, I have a fire hydrant on the corner of my property that I won’t be shy about using. We are usually well set for food…not on purpose but our canned goods tend to grow until they overrun their cupboard and we donate them.

At that point it’s just a question about defense. We should be able to defend the house with the two of us. If we pick up another couple, we have it all covered. I’m fairly sure I’d have to teach everyone how to work the reloading press and it would be kept going in shifts. Spread of zombies through my neighborhood would be relatively slow. It’s mostly retired couples so I’m looking at a max of 2 zombies per house. We should be able to hold that position for at least two weeks before food or water become an issue. At that point, our only concern should be Mr. Zack and the last challenge would be making it to one of the nearby middles of nowhere.

In the case of the unlikely event that we can’t manage to find a deserted bit of wilderness nearby, the Appalachian Trail isn’t that far away and having been a trail hiker in my youth, I still have topo maps of most of it. Not only would that facilitate low-tech travel over a vast distance but it would be some seriously Zombie hostile terrain. Assuming the black bears didn’t find the smell of rotting meat irresistible, it gets quite cold once you pass the tree line.

Comments? Suggestions? Overripe fruit?

quick update? [Aug 19 2008 / 11:59am]

I've been feeling extremely lazy lately. I finally managed to get all of my stuff in to STU, so hopefully I'll hear back from them soooon, and be on my way to uni in the fall. Going back to school would be a pretty great birthday present, I have to say.

I've been watching the Food Network all morning, ahhh. I want an ice cream maker so badly, and then I'll go all Anna Olson in the kitchen. As for right now... I guess I'll settle for taking a nice long bath and/or shower (because shaving your legs is much easier when you're on your back in the bath).

Then I figure I'll play my way through a bunch of FFXII. I've finally finished leveling all my characters up to where Vaan is (fucker leveled up like six times faster than everyone else, ugh), and have gotten part-way through the Bhujerba sidequest. I've been trying to get through all the hunts I've accepted as well... I've got to wait for the rains to end though, so I may just continue on with the main game. I think I've got to go to some jungle right now, or something...

Tonight it's off to Dan and Trisha's, and I'll end up spending the night as well.

Ok, a random series of thoughts at 2:30 AM. [Aug 19 2008 / 2:58am]

Ok, a random series of thoughts at 2:30 AM.

I live in a major urban area, downtown. Lots of stores, lots of cityscape, lots of possible supplies... well, not much other than that. The nearest wilderness is quite a ways away from here in Albany, New York.

So. I don't have a car or even some real driving knowledge (I rely on my feet and everything I need is here in the city), have -negative- knowledge of guns (though give me a hand-to-hand weapon and I'll be up on the front line smashing zombie skull), am not-too-terribly strong and my endurance outright sucks (think Luigi from the mario bros... I rely on speed, not strength) so I can't carry a great deal over long distances.

The way I see it, I can go one of three ways. North into the "harsh winterlands" (Glens Falls NY and further north, where the snow and nor'easters will freeze out any undead infestation), south to New York City for some good old fashioned zombie smashing (and possibly supplies-gathering), or east towards the ocean.

One of my scenarios involves finding a huge mock-up ship of the ones they use in novels and movies as huge transports, get it working -somehow- despite a lack of knowledge (maybe I pick up allies who know how to sail?) as much as I can, and set sail for who knows where. On the ocean, they can't get to you.

Yeah. Estimated survival time, a few weeks at best if I don't end up feeding some zombie in a hand-to-hand slamfest.

I also have no knowledge of movies, but this crossed my mind. A man-made virus that takes over the brain function (shutting down things like most higher functions) and whose only "programming" is to reproduce by infecting others... but the virus survives off of cannibalizing the body and doesn't rest, resulting in the bodies being used eventually becoming really zombie-like and wasting away but still remaining virus-ally active to both humans and animals as they decomposed. Has that been done in movies?

I avoid areas highly populated with children and people of not average height )

I would have to say Zombies of unusual size such as children, zombies that you can't tell because of makeup that they are zombies such as clowns. Those are the ones that bug me.

I'm also just of the general opinion that if animals have anything to do with what causes zombies that the human race as we know it is pretty screwed.

Facts of life from Jordan Denomy:

Lesson 1- Frat boys

Apparently if a group of Frat Boys confront you, outnumber you 5 to 1, and you still stand your ground face to face with them, and leave because all they want to do is talk shit to you and not have the balls to throw a punch that makes you a " bitch".

Guelph was fun until bar sluts, and prep boys decided to come where they didn't belong. I still laugh that despite what they thought I did no one threw a punch at me.

Non stop movement, no pain telling you it's time to stop, no regeneration.

How long do you think the body would be able to support itself?

I think there would still be activity within a body until complete deposition but I think the majority of the threat would be gone pretty soon after the initial spread.

Shyness is nice and
Shyness can stop you
From doing all the things in life
You'd like to

So, if there's something you'd like to try
If there's something you'd like to try
Ask me, I wont say no, how could I?

Coyness is nice, and
Coyness can stop you
From saying all the things in
Life you'd like to

So, if there's something you'd like to try
If there's something you'd like to try
Ask me, I wont say no, how could I?

Spending warm summer days indoors
Writing frightening verse
To a bucktoothed girl in Luxembourg

Ask me, ask me, ask me
Ask me, ask me, ask me

Because if it's not Love
Then it's the bomb, the bomb, the bomb,
the bomb, the bomb, the bomb, the bomb
That will bring us together

Nature is a language - can't you read ?

Should I stay or should I go? [Aug 18 2008 / 9:12pm]

zombie_survival

[redbondgirl]
[ mood | creative ]

Scenario: Las Vegas is a red zone and I am one of the few survivors.

I'm on the Western border of the city, at the base of the mountains. To the east, I watched the Strip succumb to legions of infected tourists and saw one of the well known mega hotels burn to the ground in some half-hearted attempt to stop the spread of infection. The cavalry is not coming: the government declared Vegas a lost cause and retreated past the mountains.

I'm in a 2nd floor condo, with a 1st floor door, window, and garage. Obviously the window was bricked up and the door barricaded long ago. I blocked the stairway from the front door up into the house just in case. (yeah, spent a lot of time maxing out credit cards at Home Depot in the early days of the outbreak.) My balcony can't be reached by Zack, but I could escape from there onto the 2nd floor walkway if my house was compromised. At the beginning I thought I had plenty of food and supplies, and my hideaway is nearly perfect. But I am going to run out of food...very soon.

The question is, do I stay put and try to raid nearby condos for food? I will risk food poisoning and plenty of Zack, because all my old neighbors are infected. OR, do i venture out of my hiding place and head west into the mountains to fend for myself? Do I try to get to the Nellis Air Force base to the Northeast? Or head North or South into the burbs? Or do I go East to the strip, which is crawling with Zack, to join some survivors who holed themselves up in the penthouse level of the Bellagio?

I'm a female in good health, (short hair/tight clothes, etc) with no family tagging along to slow me down and previous defense and survival training. I have a subaru WRX in the garage with a full tank of gas and some gas cans stashed in the back. For defense I have an axe, and Glock 23 with hollow point ammo. I've got a case of water and a very small stash of food.

Ok, so how do i stay alive? Let's hear it.

I've been in Saint John since the wee morning hours of Saturday, whew. It's been nice, too. Lee came with me, and last night Carly and Jason came over for drinking and Simpsons watching. I passed out early (as usual).

Today was a lot nicer, so we took off to the beach and had a nice swim. Then steak and potatoes and carrots on the grill, and now I've convinced him to stay until the morning because he loves me. HAHAHA!!! EVIL.
