ok. now for.

THE CRY ME A RIVERTHON!

Originally sang by chanteuse Julie London in 1955, written for her by her classmate. If you don't know who Julie London is (surely, the inspiration for Sawada Kenji taking the name Julie), just...oh my god. I mean LOOK AT HER:

(she reminds me of Hisashi >_>)

this weeparama has also been covered by Aerosmith, Skeeter Davis, Ithamara Koorax, Dinah Shore, Chris Connor, and more!

Now you say you're lonely
You cry the whole night thorough
Well, you can cry me a river, cry me a river
I cried a river over you

Now you say you're sorry
For bein' so untrue
Well, you can cry me a river, cry me a river
I cried a river over you

You drove me, nearly drove me out of my head
While you never shed a tear
Remember, I remember all that you said
Told me love was too plebeian
Told me you were through with me and

Now you say you love me
Well, just to prove you do
Come on and cry me a river, cry me a river
I cried a river over you

I cried a river over you
I cried a river over you
I cried a river over you

confession: not only do I ADORE the Nina Simone version of this sad classic, but ohhhhhhh Justin Timberlake's version is super over the top melodramatic! i adore it.

here are my favorite versions of this song:

( Cerrey, please dl at least the first two)

Julie London - Cry Me A River (1955, the original)

Nina Simone - Cry Me A River

ahhhh, this ultramelodramatic version!!!! especially since it was an overtly BiTchy response to his ex!!!!! i didnt know who JT was when i first heard it, but its superlative as far as overproduced pop goes.

Justin Timberlake - Cry Me A River

and as an extra special treat, this completely crazy Selassie-spiced Dancehall MC put to the Timberlake beat-- ( [info]alexmizell and [info]astounded, check it out)

Sizzla - First Thing (Cry Me A River Riddim)

I really need the Ella Fitzgerald version...!

Actually, will anyway seeing as I'm not online much these days.

Via 'Cuddle Up With Claudine Longet' - The Complete Barnaby Record Sessions 1970-74. I think her cute accent and little voice are adorable. Crazy as a mad hatter too from all reports..

Accordingly, behold! : http://www.users.on.net/~ameliorate/Claudine_Longet_-_cry_me_a_river.mp3

i have that "her name is julie" album on vinyl. she was pretty fine. and i love her voice too... :)

you know the BEST version of "cry me a river" is by combustible edison. i wanted to post the file for you but i bought it on itunes music store and i'm too lazy to crack and transcode it for public consumption.

ooooh. this is a really nice version. it reminds me of Carnival of Souls, with the odd haunted circus-y cinematic overlay.

ya know after listening to the julie london and the nina versions again i can't really say the combustible edison is BEST (at least not with the caps like that)... these are all excellent cuts. the song is really well written too. glad to see it getting attention.
