So, here's a snippet of fun and interesting bullshit courtesy of my good friends at ohnotheydidnt
In the world of conservative news nerds, calling someone "Paris Hilton" is an insult. That "slur" has now been hurled by FOX News at grey-haired golden boy Anderson Cooper. In the latest issue of Television Week, the right-leaning cable net ran a two-page ad with the screaming headline: "MEET THE PARIS HILTON OF TELEVISION NEWS." Anderson isn't pictured or named, but there's a photo, taken from behind, of a slim, grey-haired man in a suit. The ad also says that "Anderson" is "style over substance" and a "media darling." But here's the kicker: "He still gets beat EVERY NIGHT BY ... Greta Van Susteren." Ouch.
The spat erupted last week when Cooper took a shot at FOX News for hyping Insight magazine's incorrect story that Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama had attended a radical Islamic school as a child in Indonesia. "Others are reporting the heat. We are sticking to the facts," Cooper said at the time.
You call FOX inaccurate, they call you Paris Hilton. So there!
There is just so much to say about this, I don't even know where to begin. First off...When is calling someone Paris Hilton NOT an insult? I mean, even if you aren't a conservative news nerd, you can still find Paris Hilton revolting enough to not want to be called by that name or in any way deemed comparable. DUH. And also, let's be honest, FOX is not a reliable, trustworthy news source. Rupert Murdoch is a politician first who doesn't believe in fair and balanced journalism. He believes in far-right propaganda and illegitimate reporting. We know this, it has been proven time and time again. (If you're not convinced, watch the film "Outfoxed: Rupert Murdoch's War on Journalism" and start to seriously consider where you are getting your information from and exactly which puppetmaster is manipulating "your" view of the world we live in.)
And even, all that aside...come on FOX. What is this? Schoolyard name calling? Respectable news outlets need not resort to petty, juvenile acts such as this to assert their (in FOX's case, non-existant) respectability. Grow up, suck it up, and just stick to what you do best: Brainwashing middle-America into falling for whatever Bush wants them to.
