It's also why you shouldn't watch a movie with me. Or maybe it is WHY you should.

Laughter is Medicine Best Served Cold

  • Jun. 29th, 2009 at 1:51 AM

Not many people know this, but I don't really laugh at alot of things.

Maybe it's something about my personality, that I think I'm King Comedian or Jesus McFunnyington... but not much can really make me laugh. Like REALLY laugh. It's like what I mentioned in the Transformers blog last time. I looked on this humongous crowd of movie-goers as they laughed at some of the most unfunniest scenes in film history. Sure, I'm sounding like Movie Snob Man, but I would like to feel something when I watch a movie or in a conversation, during anything. You watch a flick to be entertained after all. I'd like to laugh, but if it's not funny... it is not. There is no bullshit with me as usually my first reaction is my true reaction. So because of that, I can't hide how I feel. I was amazed to see all those laughs and guffaws, like I was an insane person in this world of the even nuttier. I wanted to ask each and every one of them, "Do you know what you just laughed at, and if you do, can you tell me why it was funny?"

Does it have to do with taste or the person's own sense of humor or what? I think my humor can be pretty juvenile at times, or yeah, most of the times. I love a good dirty joke. I'm a fan of Beavis and Butthead, Ren and Stimpy, Jackass, South Park, etc. I can tolerate alot of sick humor as I dig most Troma films and J-Gore flicks like Machine Girl. Bad B-movies and horror crack me up. And only during Anchorman and Team America (I was kinda drunk), have I really laughed out loud in the theater. Maybe Borat, but it seemed too staged at parts. I was raised off of Beavis and Stimpy, not to mention sketch comedy shows and the Simpsons and Zucker Bros/Mel Brooks/Monty Python movies.

So maybe for me, I don't laugh at much because of my snobbiness or my attention to perfection. I am a fan of Pablo Francisco, who does the movie trailer imitations, but I saw him live and was disappointing. I laughed maybe once. And I know I've talk to others about moments like that, so I know I'm not the only one who goes through it. But is it ok to be like that, can that be a problem later on, am I doomed to lose my sense of humor?

Well, it could also be due to the way comedy is presented. Like in Transformers, it's TOO dumbed down. Like all you need grunting noises and it's perfect for any audiences, ANY. I'm hinting at the handicapped, folks. Anyways, when there is comedy that is trying alittle TOO hard to be funny, it does not work. Like the Epic Movie/ Date Movie crew and their "comedies". My niece and nephew love those movies, but do I know anyone else my age that does? No, and if I do, they were drunk or were dragged to it. Give me "Airplane!" or "Hot Rod", which I really love while others don't, but half-assed jokes just don't work. You can shut your mind off enough and for only so long.

I don't know. What do you think?

My Thoughts: Transformers 2

  • Jun. 28th, 2009 at 10:46 AM
thats me also
So last night, Saturday, me and the crew finally caught the eagerly-awaited "Transforming Robots 2" movie. The first Transformers was a monster hit and one of my favorite action movies (just not favorite movie of all time or even that great of a movie, just stupid fun). Not to mention a big Transformers fan growing up, who watched the shows religiously and collected the figures as well. Anything from my childhood, if someone decides to make it into a movie, and looks GOOD, I'll give it a shot.

So I thought "Oh, it's Michael Bay and company back to blow the shit out of everything with his giant robots, it's gotta be good!" Because really... no one can do it like director Michael Bay as far as action goes. He did "The Rock, Con Air, Bad Boys" and the first Tranformers. So what can be wrong with this one, huh? All I have been hearing since Wednesday, its day of release, that this film is really bad and to not waste your time or money on it and that it is the worst movie of the year. Now, I usually read the reviews before watching a movie, especially if I'm skeptical on it. But I wasn't so about TF2, though the reviews were getting to me.

So was there anything wrong with it? Let's roll out and see...

For those who don't know the story, this is the condensed version. Good robots (Autobots) vs. Bad (Decepticons), battling for millions of years take the fight to Earth. One nerdy kid Sam Witwicky is in the middle, who holds the key to their survival, along with a girl who is definitely too hot for him to be with. That's all. Oh, and shit blows up real nice.

Well, here it's all about The Fallen, one of the older Bad Guys who returns to try and take over the world by rebuilding the rest of its followers. The Autobots must stop it, going on a worldwide search to find the answers. They come to the boy Sam for help, but he has enough on his plate with college and his time away from his Maxim girlfriend to worry about the end of the world. And along the way, the bots and the humans fight Decepticons, the humans who don't understand them, bad actors and the jokes that follow them, and yes... the explosions!

So what's good about it? The bots, absolutely. Optimus Prime is the man... er, robot. Voiced by the same guy from the series, Prime is still the animated robot version of John Wayne. A born leader and one hell of an ass-kicker. He is the reason to follow the movie, even if... well... stuff happens later... spoiler spoiler... yaddad yadda. You definitely want him by your side, as you also want Bumblebee. A sweet-looking car, and a badass warrior (even if he was a pussy in the 'toon), Bee has character which alot of his human counterparts lacked. The villians, along with the CG transformations that followed, all looked good. I'm glad that there was alot of the robots this time. After all, this is TRANSFORMERS!

Hey, did I mention explosions? Well, this movie is chock full of them. Bay knows how to light up a 4th of July, this is the way to do it. You do have giant metal beasts beating the crap out of each other while the army and all armed forces try to separate them by blasting the shit out of them. What Bay is all about is style over substance. There is no REAL story. It's all about blowing up half of Egypt and France and Shanghai, not to mention have all these model girls running around scared in very little clothing, all framed in slow-motion with some loud-ass rock music. Basically... it's the new U.S National Anthem.

Either way, it looks REAL good. More reason to shut off your brain and leave it off this time.

Now, what doesn't work? Well, I know it's all cartoony this world, but yeaaa... if you came for a artsy flick with a story, no. What, no! You stupid? There IS one, but not much of it. Not to mention some of the stupidest characters put to film. I read another review that said Megan Fox was their favorite robot. She was my third favorite. There's a scene where Sam is talking to another guy about what was going on with the end of the world and she's just staring off into nowhere. I wanted to laugh sooo much when I caught that.

Really, this was Michael Bay's love letter to explosions and Megan Fox. My nephew became a fan, watching her onscreen in this one. I think he grew up just a tad, and who can blame him? Her bending over in tiny booty shorts, removing and putting on clothing, and plenty of cleavage shots. She's hot, no denying, but considering there's supposed to be a love story... ya kinda wanna know why Sam likes her besides being pure sex.

I know, to many, that's not a complaint. It's just a minor one. But really, this movie was just pure dumb. Like I said turn off your brain, but this is really dumb. Like I didn't expect alot of the American Pie type jokes in this one. Or the stereotype ghetto robots. Like, one of them had a gold tooth and big ears and lips, not to mention talking like a thug. Many of the fans HATE, no, LOATHE them, but they do get what comes to them at times, so it's nothing that will deter me. It's just... these people say alot of stupid shit. The world is ending and a jet-powered metal monster is gonna kill you, why do you have the need to be funny or worry about something small like why were you making out with that dead evil robot and we must talk about it NOW? Oh, and I found it weird that people laughed at every joke, but that's another topic for another day. Although, dogs humping each other is always an instant laugh.

All and all, TF2 was pretty long at 2 hours, 30 mins, with a pretty quickly wrapped-up ending and it was pretty stupid, even for a Michael Bay movie. But it does its job: it entertains just enough and you should know what to expect from a live-action cartoon movie about fighting robots. Would I watch it again? If it's in the background, yeah. Definitely I wouldn't buy the DVD this time round. It's not the WORST movie ever, but it's definitely not for everyone. If you liked or loved the first one, you'll like this one. If you've never seen Transformers anything, I'm not sure, unless you're a fan of American Pie movies or just fart jokes in general. Oh, and you like seeing things done explode.

I place it with Terminator Salvation. It's loud, it's a music video, and it really has no brain. Oh, and has robots too.

4/10

R.I.P King of Pop

Who would have thought this day would come? Like any death, it is surprising.

This man was an idol to millions and there isn't a person who doesn't know his music or even his name today. He defined the 80's and 90's with hit song after hit. Nevermind the controversy that followed his later years, there is no one that can match what this one man has done in his life.

Yes, not even you, Madonna.

I speak of the King of Pop, Michael Jackson. I know I'm doing a pointless blog about someone who can't read this, but to me and plenty of others, this man was our a big part of our lives.

I remember MTV making a big deal about every single one of his videos. Like when MTV, FOX, and acouple other stations premiered the controversial "Black or White" video and its pretty infamous ending. Or every Halloween, "Thriller" playing nonstop on end. Or the Moonwalker movie and game. And the Simpsons episode (while they were getting to the height of their popularity as well) where he secretly guest stars as a mental patient who thinks he's Michael Jackson and sang alongside with America's animated bad boy, Bart. You just say the man's name and people know who you're talking about.

No matter what this man did, he would get attention.

And anything that came out until the late 90's were simply classic. He was our Elvis, and maybe even bigger than that.

Sure, the guy had a troubled life from the beginning. It's very well-documented. But he still went on. He may have changed his appearance and pulled some risky moves, but he managed to stay in the spotlight.

So let's remember MJ for his talents and the memories he's brought us over the years. There will honestly never be anyone like him ever again. And at least now he can rest from all the pressure from the media and everyone else.

Here's to you, Michael.

Probably one of my favorite MJ vids and songs. I was thinking "Don't stop til you get enough" but we'll go with this since no one else picks it.

Oh, and this was my fav part of the Moonwalker movie.... I watched this one part on end. PULL OVER BOY AND GET YOUR TICKET RIGHT!

Finals Week...

  • Jun. 20th, 2009 at 1:46 AM

It always brings out the worst in me.

I SOOOO wanna be done already. It's been nonstop stress and no matter how much I try, I still can't get everything to go how I want it to go. After Saturday's class, I can have another breather.

Think about it. 11 weeks of constant work in 4 or more 4-hour classes, add to that my daily 2 hour-plus commute to said classes, and 25-plus hour work week and a good amount of homework and... everything else in my life... and well... HEAD GO KABOOM!

I can't wait to be done with all this shit. I needs me some sleeep.

Sorry, people.

A real full-sized Gundam robot in Japan, all to celebrate the show's 30th anniversary.

I'm not a fan, but come on... who doesn't want a giant mecha robot? At least as a friend. It'll fly you around and stop monsters and umm... creditors.

I don't know. This thing is bad-ass.
