[30] Pride and Prejudice (1995)

I would really like to curl up with a book, actually
So... the catfight that broke out on The Shelf last night was bad. Really, really bad. Ellowyne and "her sizeist assumptions" made the mistake of sassing Eowyn over the hypothetical--HYPOTHETICAL!--rights to Edward Dollen, they threw down, and then Eowyn pantsed her. See, this is why you don't ever pick a fight with someone who only comes up to your elbow. So Ellowyne and her gold lace capri pants take a dive and Eowyn immediately goes for the curls, which look way different from the ones in the picture--they're these tight, stiff sausage curls, a whole huge ponytail of them in the back, and Ellowyne is very proud of them. So Eowyn gets one good fistful and Ellowyne is immediately screaming bloody murder, not because it hurts but because she knows what every little girl finds out too late--once you fuck up doll hair, you never get it back the way it was. Yeah. So apparently Ellowyne talks a big talk, but her walk stops dead at weave-pulling.

I seriously don't know how I'm going to keep the peace over there now.

Meanwhile: Trying to get back to recapping True Blood, but for some reason I am just exhausted today. Well, maybe "some reason" is "I was up until three footnoting last night," I don't know. I didn't post any recaps this week just because I wanted to give my recap mojo a rest, and... now I'm just going to be even more behind. Ah, well. C'est la vie.

Today's Journal Birthmonth Flashback: "In times of old you stood beside us during the Day After Thanksgiving Sale," said TRISH soberly. "We will not let the Summit Carmike fall."

Also, in case you didn't read the last entry, I posted another minute-long snippet from the Poufwa podcast ("I think he did a lot of reading"). Yes, that is my crazy tropical bird laugh there at the beginning. (Man, I need to pull a couple of clips from the Made of Fail podcast just to keep things fair.)

Just a few links, since I've got them sitting around:

[info]metaquotes: "Captain Credit! He's our hero! Gonna take stagnation down to zero!" Keep reading for the punchline, which is gold.

Wonderella has a book!

Headless Horseman costume for dogs: it just ain't right.

Sleeping Beauty May Be Safe, But Ariel Has Some Explaining To Do.

This is what the ring and the locket from Half-Blood Prince look like? Really?

Tweethearts: blogger proposes to nerd girlfriend over Twitter, she tweets back acceptance. My first reaction was, FUTURE HUSBAND I HAVEN'T MET, DON'T YOU DARE. And then I thought... Really, do you foresee this being a problem any time soon?

And Vita, I haven't heard from you in a long time but I hope you're having a great birthday wherever you are!!! *HUGS*

I thought it would be better to answer [info]storylikeascar's comments on my last entry and all the replies by just making a new post, just so it wouldn't be too confusing with all the comments ;) So here we go, my thoughts on Breaking Dawn.

I had a very lovely day. The weather was fantastic and I could even wear a friggin´dress!!! On Friday I finally had the day off and so we went to IKEA and I bought the chair I had wanted for sooo long. :) Also got 2 carpets, one for the kitchen and one for the "library" area, some storage boxes, tea lights and a blanket. Wanna see how pretty it turned out? )

On Saturday we made a shopping trip to Offenburg but sadly I have no pictures for you. :( This years fall/winter clothes are horrible. PURPLE IS JUST NOT MY COLOR. Who ever thought of that needs to be slapped. *shudders* Anyway, after that I invited my parents to a Chinese restaurant and the food was delicious. *yumm*

When we came home I finally got around to watch FNL and OMG!!!! How cute were the Matt&Julie scenes??? Is it just me or is Julie not as bitchy and whiny as last season?

And last but not least, I found these great resources sites and just had to play around with all the pretty new stuff. Plus I always wanted to use that image of Chuck and Blair. :)

I hope I can post this here.
I have a question, somewhat embarrassing, and I hope I'm allowed to post this here. (Though can I just point out how ironic -- and somewhat annoying -- it would be to get one's post deleted from an OT community? Yeah.)

Are there any D/R shippers out there who go to Oberlin College? I'm in my first semester here and have only met one other Doctor Who fan, and she doesn't ship the good ship Doctor/Rose. It would be lovely to make some new friends here. So if you're a member of this little campus and want to hang out sometime, let me know!

Kind of a do-nothing day
Today's Journal Birthmonth Flashback: let's go with a story I absolutely did not make up.

By the way, y'all, I just checked the page where Edward Dollen is actually for pre-order (I'm guessing this is the NECA one? It's not the Tonner), and... it's only 7". The girls are--well, shit, I don't know. They're way shorter than Sleeping Beauty and Galadriel Barbie, and I thought Barbies were supposed to be 11-1/2"? Maybe there's some hope here?

So I go dig a purple plastic ruler that I have never had cause to use before in my life out of the file cabinet, and go over to The Shelf. He doesn't even come up to your waist? DON'T SAY IT, ANNA, DON'T YOU EVEN )

Odds and Ends
Hello gang... I'm back!

Life was hectic these last six weeks because my brother moved out so we've been pretty busy cleaning. He's finally settled in and while I do miss my TV buddy I now have a hell of a lot of closet space... yay! I also caught up on some of my reading which was great, I don't think I picked up a book this summer.

I'm totally stoked to have most of my shows back although I which I didn't have to wait so long for the return of 30 Rock although I am loving Tina's wicked take on Sarah Palin (who I'm starting to absolutely loathe with a passion!)

The return of The Office which was just sublime perfection... I just love the crazy crew at Dunder Miflin. Pushing Daisies continues to be an absolute joy! It's a shame that anything with whimsy tends to get such deathly ratings... I'm a confirmed cynic and I can't stop smiling when I'm watching this lovely show.

I also decided to start watching some other shows I'd given up on last year and so far I'm really enjoying them again. I gave up on House about midway through last season but I caught the season finale this summer and I thought it was brilliant. So far I still can't stand the newbies but unlike the rest of the fans I really don't miss the old ducklings either. The show has always been about House, Cuddy and Wilson for me which is why last season I found myself so incredibly annoyed with the show, not enough interaction between my favorites. I love that House is pining for Wilson and the addition of Lucas has been great fun... a new character I actually like, what a novelty! Also loving that we're actually seeing Cuddy again, that's always a plus. I've always kinda shipped Huddy but I kinda liked the flirty chemistry between her and Lucas, I wouldn't mind that at all.

I also started watching Grey's Anatomy again after skipping most of last season. I'm a little confused by a few things but I feel no desire to watch last season so I'll just continue from this one out which I'm enjoying so far. I still have a love/hate relationship with Meredith and I still think they need to bring Addison back (save Kate Walsh from the dreadful Private Practice already!) but luckily Cristina still ROCKS! I just adore Sandra Oh and I'm glad that Cristina is finally getting a new love interest, I'm really looking forward to the return of Kevin McKidd. I still like Derek and Mer but I absolutely love the friendship between Meredith and Cristina, to me that's the central relationship in that show and it's nice to see that they still share such a nice strong bond. We'll see how the rest of the season goes but I'm enjoying so far.

I'm still watching Bones as well despite the major character assassination they did with the season ender. While I'm still mad they went that route I must say that I still actually enjoy the show for the most part. It's a fun show with a great cast that just clicks.

I've also found myself watching a couple of returning shows that I've never seen before which is unusual for me... I'm usually obsessive about watching things in order. I kinda started watching How I Met Your Mother last year every once in a blue moon but I never got around to adding it to my recording list until now. It's one of the few traditional comedies left that are actually quite enjoyable to watch. The cast works well together with the fantastic Neil Patrick Harris a stand-out for his overbearing Barney... having him fall in love with Robin was a brilliant stroke of genius from the writers. I really loved this weeks episode which degenerated into the age old battle between New Yorkers and New Jerseyans over which state is better... hysterical! I think I'll be picking up the first two seasons so I can truly catch up.

I've also started watching The Big Bang Theory thanks to [info]artic_fox and I'm really enjoying it so far. My favorite is Sheldon who is freaking fantastic! The most amazing thing to me is that this sweet and funny show comes from the same person who has given us the obnoxiously torpid Two and a Half Men.

I still have a few new shows in the DVR that I haven't gotten around to yet. I did watch the first episode of Fringe which was good but I seem to be resisting getting involved in another convoluted show... been there, done that! The Ex-List and Life on Mars are next up in the queue. I would prefer to watch the original LOM first since I've heard so many great things about it but it's ultimately better this way or I'd be comparing too much. I've had a soft spot for Jason O'Mara since seeing him in Berkeley Square and the concept is cool. I was bred on cheezy '70s crime shows (I watched them all with my dad) so if they get it right it should be fun.
