illuminate the possibilities So I have a wine bottle and a bunch of... uh... flat marble things. I wish to illuminate the wine bottle with the flat marble things laying at the bottom of it to give it some extra color. (What ARE those things called anyway?) ( pictures beneath the cut )The two ideas I've heard that sound like they would work the best are a LED push light. (The link's just for the sake of the LED light. I don't think I'd want to use hollowed out coaster's for this project.) OR Christmas tree lights in the bottle. (I was told if I wanted to use Christmas tree lights that an LED strand would be best to avoid potential fire hazards and overheating the bottle.) Does anyone have any experience with either of these options, insight in to which would be more illuminating, more cost effective, or any other ideas for lighting this project? Thanks! <3 Current Music: Cyndy Lauper - Girls Just Wanna Have Fun |

Monochrome / checkerboard and skulls I know. I just posted yesterday, but today, it's MY craft. I'm totally proud of what I'm posting today. More polymer clay stuff. I checked out some books from the library about Polymer clay and got some tips as well as ideas for things I could make... I wanted to go simple this time and just use black and white. Trying again :) I'm sorry if this offends anyone, please let me know if it does and I will of course remove the entry. Anyway, I wrote this entry earlier this week about my lost bracelet that I bought in Edinburgh two weeks ago. I have tried contacting the shop, and a kind member of this community even checked if they had an e-mail address, which they do not. So, yes, I called Cutie House twice. The first time I spoke to a lady there, she spoke very poor English and when she couldn't understand me she asked me to call back today because her partner would be there and they spoke better English, apparently. I called back, got the same lady, and she just hung up on me when she got frustrated that she didn't understand what I meant. (She understood the bracelet part - but when I tried to explain I am not from the UK I lost her.) So therefore I am wondering, if anyone lives or works close to the shop Cutie House (located at the bottom of Cockburn Street), and would consider helping me with this, i.e. stopping by and asking if they still stock this bracelet - please comment here or contact me privately. I would so appreciate it, and again, sorry if this is offending anyone. I just really would love to have that bracelet again. ( A picture of the bracelet ) |

07.17.08--last night's journal page Here's a journal page I did last night. I did most of this in bed last night while using my little table top easel on top of my breakfast-in-bed tray thingy. It worked pretty well. (I use the table-top easel so I don't have to look down while I work.) The color looks a little flat in the scan . .. it's much richer in real-life. |

Jewelry making- newbie Hi!
I am wondering if anyone might be able to help me out. I am very interested in making simple earrings and perhaps necklaces. I am not sure about what type of equipment I need. I am broke, so I don't know if this is something that I should even consider starting now or wait till I am better off. Just wanted some feedback and what you pros thought.
Also, when looking for charms/bread/etc for earrings and chains for necklaces where do you find such items? Would a chain craft store carry such items or would it be better to find a local bead-type shop? Also since I have no clue- is really simple chain for necklaces expensive?
Thanks for baring with my inexperience! |

Costume inspiration Hello, all! This year at my local Renaissance Festival I'm going to be dancing at the "Smoker," a bawdy/raunchy show that has various guest acts singing naughty songs, telling dirty jokes, etc. (basically it's what a lot of old renfaires used to be before they went all Disney-fied). The show is at 4:30 p.m. both days of all seven weekends, but because of carpooling arrangements, I must be on faire site for the entire day (9:00 a.m. to about 8:00 p.m.). I'm on the hunt for images of costume ideas that will stand up to a day of tromping around faire site, and are appropriate for an outdoor, daytime venue--so no standard bedlah or anything too terribly shiny. I'm going to need pants to avoid horrible thigh chafing, but I'd prefer not to do harem pants every day. From comments made by others, I know I have the body type that will not work with Melodias. In other words: My hips are enormous in comparison to my waist and I have a large butt. Not quite a bubble-butt, but close. I might try to draft something similar to Melodias, but since I've never worn them, I don't have a lot of experience designing around them. I can't wear any of my existing costumes because I've lost a fair amount of weight and everything is way too big. I've even lost a cup size. *sob*! Could you lovely dancers please post photos or links to photos of costumes (either your own or ones you've seen on others) that meet some or all of my basic criteria: * Include a form of pants * No wide open lace or thin, stringy fringe that will catch on grass, twigs, hay bales * Two piece/open belly costume * Fauxloric or tribalesque rather than nightclub-ish To get an idea of my basic costuming style, see my LJ gallery. I'm not closed-minded when it comes to branching out, though, and I welcome any suggestions. Thanks, all! |

smallest biggest fan Inga Ingenue gives a flower to her newest, biggest fan (ever!) at a Bastille Day celebration here in Seattle. It was so sweet watching that little girl, eyes wide at every dancer and every kick. She couldn't get enough of the performers, any of them. And I will admit to a very selfish hope that in fifteen years time (or so), I'll find myself shooting a show somewhere, talking with a new performer who talks about how she knew she had to get in to burlesque when her parents took her to this Bastille Day celebration in Post Alley when she was a little girl... Hey, I can dream. |

Angels and Demons I finished the doll I made for an upcoming Art Contest. The theme is Angels & Demons... She's 22 inches tall and completely hand stitched. She's wearing a white crinkled chiffon gown that just flows so nicely... I really love that fabric! Her Angel wings are stitched with white wool and soft white feathers, each individually sewn on, and she carries a little ancient Egyptian book of the dead that I sculpted with paper clay in one hand, and a pewter cross on a chain in the other. She's hiding black panties, fishnet stockings and black leather shoes underneath, and she has two little black demon horns coming out of her head. I had fun making this doll and I think she came out just lovely! :) All of my dolls are © 2003-2008 Jodi Cain All rights reserved! |

The festival Does anyone have any recommendations of really good sites, guides or publications to checkout for what’s on? As I’m not a local, and never been at home for it before, I’m having a hell of a time trying to find out what’s on, where and when. I'm sure it's easy to find anything when you know where to look, but i don't.
I realise that there are countless different attractions, and there are loads of sources on the net, but the ones I’ve found only seem to advertise a particular topic or subject. I’d like to see and do as much as possible, a bit of everything, as I won’t know if I don’t like something if I don’t try it at least twice. |

sewing machine/s I just saw a sewing machine for £25 in Woolworths. I'm not *supposed* to be feeding my craft addiction, but I'm kind of tempted... has anybody heard any reviews of these basic machines? Or know where I could pick up a cheap or secondhand machine other than in Woolworths?
Thanks! |

computer repair recommendations? since I now have two dead desktop PCs, I think I should actually do something about getting them fixed. I'm assuming catastrophic hard drive failure on both, probably becasue I never clean the dust out of them.
One of them was bought at silicon group in Dalry, so I suppose I could take it there, but I thought I'd ask here first for any personal recommendations, especially places on the south side. the memories don't throw up much of use, and the entries are a couple years old now too.
thanks... |

Casting Call I am involved in putting on a performance of Mort at the Edinburgh Fringe, but one of the actors has dropped out at very short notice. I.e. this morning. Part is that of Goodie Whelper and other minor female parts. The show is going to be fabulous, on the top floor of C Main. Paul Kidby is donating his artwork for the posters, and a large chunk of money going to charity. Everyone involved with the production will have C passes, allowing them free tickets at C shows, for the duration of the festival.
We are urgently seeking someone who is
1) Female, youngish, 2) Available in Oxford a.s.a.p 3) Available in Edinburgh 25th July -> 25th August 4) Can act 5) Preferably can pay towards accomodation ~ £500 for the month, or sort their own. If you can't do this, still get in touch as the production may decide to cover cost of accomodation in order to y'know have a show.
If interested, call RHYS 07825957161 or email rhyslewisjones@gmail.com asap |

Who Watches The Watchmen ? I was really nervous they wouldn't get it right, I was praying not for another League of Extraordinary Gentlemen style adaptation or bastardised version if you will. However after seeing this I think I can rest easy. Not only does it look like a Watchmen movie, the trailer is also very well put together, ominous and dark. Love it!

Programme on the sex industry. I have just been asked to take part in a sky-virgin tv programme about `sex & money`(UK). Its on current tv...but sadly have had to decline. I mused this invite over in my mind, weighing out the pro`s & con`s. Though I was assured that this programme would be a balanced view of the sex industry, I have my doubts. Here was my `assurance`: `The show is a serious and hard hitting look at various aspects of the Sex Industry aimed at 18 – 34 year olds. The show will comprise of a number of short films made by our producers which we will show to the audience and ask for comment and debate upon afterwards. We in no way aim to ridicule any aspect of this subject. There may be some lighter comment as some of the films deal with subjects such as sex toys for which the debate will be lighter than after the films which talk about prostitution etc. But the show as a whole is of a serious tone and aims to provide a balanced view of the sex and money industry in the UK. I am in negotiations with various people at the moment but the studio audience is likely to be made up of some of the producers of the films we will watch, people who work in the sex industry, including some of those who appear in the films, and also those who campaign against or have strong views opposing the industry. A balanced audience to provoke conscious and informed debate`. So taking in mind the above, I was concerned that this was yet another `seek the whore` campaign..or `seek the victim` campaign..rather than an intelligent look at the sex industry & its pro`s & con`s. I just felt that I would be spending most of my time..with others maybe..fending off the ignorant & niave. Wasting worthwhile air time explaining myself & justifying my rights in my choice of being a sex wroker. This tires me now..spent too many years doing that. would instead like to spend some time tackling any real issues at hand & discussing the positives & worth of sex work..we all know the shit..but until we stop talking about the shit, we`ll never recognise the good things & the value we as sexworkers have had to offer societies. Any opinions? Current Mood: cynical |

Copper wedding circlet So here is the circlet I'm making for my future sister in law's wedding to my bro! Its not stuck together yet but this is the general idea so far...critique!? The leaves are cut from thin copper sheet their edges filed and sanded within an inch of their new lives...then heated to get that discolouration. The stone is a tumbled emerald I received in a bag of stones I bought in India last year, I cut more of the copper sheet to make a bezel setting. The rest of the circlet is made from 2mm and 1.25mm copper wire purchased from an electrical store. Originally this item was meant to be soldered together, but unfortunately the copper on "mark one" of the circlet pretty much melted under the strain of the blowtorch, so this "mark two" will be held together with a strong metal glue...not ideal but will do the job...next time I'll try one in silver so I can solder! :) ( Sonia's circlet ) |

super sculpey thickness Hi guys. I have a sculpey question that I didn't see answered in the memories. I am about to start on a project and am debating whether to hollow it out or keep it as a solid mass of sculpey. I'd like to keep it solid just because it would be easier to sculpt, but I'm wondering if there are any baking issues tend to arise when heating thick pieces. The part I am making may come to around 3" in thickness in places, and I don't want it to burn on the outside or crack or explode or do any other awful thing. Anyone have experience with this? Also, would it be a problem to have a piece that is very thick like that is some places but much thinner in others? I imagine the thinner parts would harden faster and could possibly burn or singe, but I've actually never used sculpey before (shhh...) so I don't know! |

Finished blankie! I'm going craft crazy! I finished a baby blanket for my cousin yesterday. It was washed & stayed together! Good sign. So now a picture: This is the first blanket I've done & I'm so very proud :) I got the colors from this bedroom set my cousin picked out for their soon to be little girl Leah Ann. It is simple but I'm so happy I finished such a large project. Next? A couple scarves for Christmas gifts. Question: Does anyone know where I might be able to find a mermaid crochet pattern? My nephew loves the little mermaid & I haven't been able to find one that I really like. Thank you! If you wish to see some of my other completed crafts I uploaded pictures here: |
