Check out Darling Darling by Matthew Lessner. It's hilarious. It was featured on one of the most recent Wolphin DVDs.

This past weekend I went to the art supply store and gathered some supplies so that I can began creating a small scale, Gerda Steiner installation art piece.

I also began watching the Elfen Lied anime series out of curiosity. It made me feel content to explore something that I didn't know anything about.

JM and I are still collecting vinyl figures from Kid Robot. Junko Mizuno recently released a figure that I love (second from the left). JM also paints Munny figures with acrylic; it's something I'd do if I had his patience.

We also play Warhammer now! Level 15. It's so much better than World of Warcraft, IMO.

Those are just a few of our hobbies / things that we've been up to.

Other than that, I don't drink anymore, whatsoever. I also sought out a Psych over a month ago because I was extremely depressed. I try not to write about how I'm feeling when I'm that down unless it's to close friends.

I've been keeping up with world events, especially the political atmosphere, and I'm having a hard time believing that people actually support Palin. If McCain gets elected and passes away, she becomes president. That's a potential reality we're facing... Seriously?

Pillowman

Last night's production of Pillowman was brilliant. Paula pointed out that the struggle between the writer and the writer's brother was much like the internal struggle that we experience between our conscious and subconscious. (The writer representing the conscious, and the brother representing the subconscious, unable to tell the difference between fiction and reality.) While we'd like to think that we have control over our thoughts, our subconscious will always be present and can never "be painted over or washed out."

The soundtrack included Rasputina, NIN, and Marilyn Manson which were very appropriate for the mood.

To my surprise, I was acquainted with the director via live journal days before the play. Very talented individual.

panino

panini

paninis

paparazzo

paparazzi

paparazzi

Also, some archaic terms of interest. I thought these were funny.

cow - kine
eye - eyen
shoe - shoon
octopus - octopodes

So I am easily amused but who cares. ; )

Silence

On the drive to Miami this weekend I had access to a radio and decided to listen to it for the first time in a year. Apparently nothing has changed, though I didn't expect that it would. (I did consider the fact that country is the only genre that I haven't avidly explored.) I also had an album to listen to during the trip, but realized that I'd grown so accustomed to silence while driving that it felt unnatural to listen to music the entire time, or even at all. Instead, I turned it off and was left alone with my thoughts and the view on the way into the city. I never realized how dependent I was on the internet and radio until I'd completely removed myself from these media (at least, outside of work). And, of course, I was never dependent on television but at least I possessed knowledge of tv shows and commercials up to ten months ago. Now if someone asks me if I've seen something on tv, I'm rendered clueless. At the same time, however, I'd rather be clueless and sacrifice such knowledge for the sake of a clear mind than sacrifice time out of my life to television for the sake of a conversation.

Speaking of music-

Paula: "Do you know what the singular of opera is?"
Nikki: "No, actually."
Paula: "Opus. Isn't that odd?"

Paula told me that if I could find a job in Miami for her, that she'd move there. That's my next task because she's invaluable.

I've reserved a place to live in a quiet, gated community with three other students, one who's also in graduate school. It's ten minutes from John Michael's house and five minutes from a bookstore, authentic ethnic restaurants, and everything else I'd need to access. If I can find a job soon I'll be set to move in mid December.

Came to work at 7:00, was dreading being here, but then noticed that I've raised $230 so far for the American Cancer Society. I'm incredibly happy. To those of you who have donated, you're amazing. Words can't express how much it means to me. I've worked at a cancer center and have witnessed how these fundraisers touch peoples' lives. I miss you Lance.
