Halloween Full Moon Cruise - TOMORROW NIGHT! Ok boys and girls, it's that time of year when the weather turns chill, the sun sets early, and all the creatures of the night come out to join us on our spooky after dark bike rides. The spookiest of them all, of course, is the Full Moon Cruise, and as of right now you've got a little under 36 hours to prepare your final will and testament because I don't know if we're all coming back from this one. Tuesday, October 14th at 11:59PM is the time and day, the Lamar Pedestrian Bridge is the place, and as for the route I have not been clued in but if it's anything like last year I guarantee it'll be a frightfully good cruise, full of ghoulish, darkly lit streets and ghastly, overgrown graveyards. The evenings are getting chillier so wear a few layers (aka. shit you can take off if you get warm), remember your flashy lights, and bring plenty of whatever to drink. Don't want anyone getting dehydrated. Costumes are STRONGLY encouraged, and nudity is always appreciated. Let ALL your friends know about this ride, it's freaking awesome. If you want to see some pictures from last year's ride and after party for inspiration, check out my friend Jamie's Flickr page: http://www.flickr.com/photos/dream0fmirrors/page7/ |

Be an election clerk! As of now, they are still taking applications/hiring for early voting clerks at the Travis County Elections office, 5501 Airport Blvd. Training sessions(paid) are 4 hours each, offered at various times this week at the Elec. Office. The actual voting runs 20th-31st October. Most polling locations are open 7AM-7PM, so there are two 6-hr. shifts Mon-Sat, then two 4-hour shifts the one Sun. $10/hr. Some locations, such as libraries, don't open until later, so there were some shorter shifts available, and locations are all over town. As of last week, there were still precincts without staff for Election Day itself. If you can spare 4 hrs. for a training session( sometime during the week before election), and can spend all day Tues(6:30 AM until 7:30-8 PM, let Diana know. Last I heard, places in NW Travis county, e.g. Lago Vista, were really in need. I've worked other elections up in that neck of the woods, and many people, especially the 15 or so liberal-looking types who came through the door, shook our hands and thanked us for being there. It was really rewarding to be so appreciated. The recruitment co-ordinatrix is Diana Rubio, and her direct line is 854-3938. The number for the Election Division itself is 854-4996, a handy number for general inquiries. |

Dr. Sketchy this Saturday with Cella Blue of the White Ghosts Shivers! Dr. Sketchy is not your daddy's figure drawing class. Dr. Sketchy is what happens when cabaret meets art school. We mix sketching and Scotch, art with Amaretto and models with Manhattans. In addition to our relaxed artistic environment, we offer games and prizes and a killer live dj to keep the tunes on as the clothes come off.
Join us from 5-8pm at Elysium Saturday night for drinking, drawing and debauchery as we bring you Ms. Cella Blue from White Ghost Shivers as our October model. Chairs are $10 and tables for one are $15. This is a 21 and up event. Please RSVP as we will sell out of spots. Email MissD@austinsketchy.com with your name and seating preferences.

Proposistions and other things on the ballot on November 4th I've kept my self very aware of national politics but I also want to know what's going to be held to vote for and what pros and cons are for propositions or anyone we might be electing November 4th. Is there some website with this information on local ballots. I just found out about Proposistion 2 which repeals $65 million in tax breaks for Domain developers, which is so insane to do nothing to help small, local businesses but helps the incredibly rich, chain stores is a joke. http://www.stopdomainsubsidies.com/ Anything else going on I should be aware of and voting for or against November 4th? Has anyone else been having trouble with their Time Warner internet? We've been having problems connecting or getting a slow connection for about a month. They've replaced the modem and we've replaced the router and an ethernet port. We call them every few days and they always insist the signal looks fine, but we're still having problems. We're resetting equipment and restarting computers like no one's business. Anyone else or are we just unlucky? |

Tickets and info say 730, but no indication if that's the show or doors (i assume the show). Any idea how far in advance they usually open doors, and how far in advance you should show up? |

PostSecret in Austin? I admit it, I'm a fan of PostSecret, but Frank doesn't seem to ever be in Texas vicinity, never mind Austin. Anyone know if there's anything in the works or how to get it in the works? Or did I miss it?
Edit: Bah. I must have been asleep or something. I have a good excuse for missing the keynote at SXSW, but I'm mostly in it for the postcards anyway. Thanks for the replies! |

Date ideas All right, Austin people, I need date ideas. I hate being that girl who says, "I don't know, what do YOU want to do?" Museums are good, parks are good, food is good, as they all allow for conversation and getting to know the person you're with. I like live music, but it's not conducive to conversation, really. Any other suggestions of really cool things to do in Austin that are fun and allow you to get to know the person you're there with, and might be a little out of the ordinary in terms of first-second-third date sorts of things? |

Finding a store... I have a wedding dress that have never been worn and a black velvet cloak, from a store in New Orleans. I'm trying to find a store that buys these types of clothes from you...I guess like a pawn shop for wedding dresses or something. I live in the South Austin area, so a store in that area would be preferrable, but not a requirement. Does anyone know of a store that buys these types of items? If you know of something, please reply with name, number and address.
Thank you. mel. |

Anywhere in Austin to have a polyester jacket dyed? It's a light brown and we need it to be a darker brown. I know polyester is hard to dye but I'm hoping someone will know of a place.= |

Yes We Can Cola & Religulous Is there anywhere in central that still has Jones Soda "Yes We Can Cola" in stock? I looked around north already, and I live in central.
Also, to anyone who has been to see Religulous at the Arbor: How long have the lines been, and how early did you get there? |

i bet on 3 races, made my money back on one, and lost $3.80 total. but i drank a pepsi that was so cold i saw an elegant baby
then we went to some farm in delaware where they make ice cream and they have all the little cows there and they sell pumpkins and they married the two and gave me pumpkin ice cream.
then some stupid looking idiot in oakleys and an eagles jersey walked into the place and i thought "what a douche that guy probably is" but then him and his dudebro friend got ice cream cones and i thought
"no one who gets ice cream cones with their friend is a douche." |

Hat search alert! Hey austincommunity , I need something close to this fedora in a very, very large size. It's for a little play opening this month based on a flick you have absolutely heard of. Points to the poster who identifies which movie. Preferably straw, but felt could work. Search your old, absurdly big headed dad's closets, stat! |

Home Needed for a Cute 11 Month Old Puppy THIS IS NOT MY DOG!!! It's his brother known as Oz. Oz is chipped, up to date on shots and an escape artist. He's got a kennel, too (don't ask me why his momma doesn't keep him in the kennel. I think she feels guilty) Oz is part Lab & Retriever. He knows how to walk on a leash and is just plain sweet. I'd totally take him if I didn't have his brother and 2 other dogs. Reply here if you're interested! *and yes, obviously he and his bro got saved from the shelter today, thanks for all the interest earlier today. EDIT to clarify story: The story goes like this: The lady who gave me my dog has 2 more of his brothers. They keep escaping her yard and she's finding that she can only handle one dog at a time. She's looking for a home for the one pictured above. She will keep him as long as she can - even forever, but his hoping that someone would like him as a pet. |

KOOP Radio This Monday I am going to be on KOOP 91.7 FM. We pre-recorded the show today so I hope the sound is good. :) It will air this coming Monday 10/13/2008 at 2pm.
Teresa had some great questions about Tarot and healing (she is the host of the Ancient Medicine show on KOOP). |
