if by respect and responsibility you mean disrespectful...then this is the place
wow...guys, i don't think this is the place for me.
first of all, when you have a respect and responsibility workshop....an important word such as xenophobia should be spelled correctly (zenophobia is not recognized in the dictionary on my computer has....but maybe it isn't wrong). that, to me, is incredibly disrespectful in itself. also, the university's statement on providing a safe learning environment does not include students of differing religious backgrounds or sexual orientations. sweet...so am i not guaranteed a safe and equal education? in the sexual assualt portion of the seminar, people laughed at one of the rape re-enactments. shouldn't we be mature enough to not laugh when a man says the sex only lasted a few minutes while referencing rape? do people not realize that the person next to them may have been raped? also, the women leading the seminar said that if a teacher is sexually harassing someone they should be careful telling anyone because it may affect their grade. WHAT??? shouldn't the school be doing something to help the student instead of advising them to exercise caution? is it right for the people leading the workshop to say they are afraid of the glbt community? i think it is brave...but they did nothing to say how they were working on it or who to talk to so as not to be afraid. i felt as if they were saying this is ok.
i don't know if i can do this you guys. i am so infuriated right now that i am ready to cry. i don't know if this is the place for me. argh!
