Her childhood was one of pampering and luxury, as long as she seemed to share the same mind frame as her parents and older sister, Bellatrix. She had seen the first hand treatment of her sister Andromeda when she chose to not believe in the families blood beliefs; having been disowned by the whole family including the parents of her cousins, Sirius and Regulus. Her sister went and married a half-blood wizard and left the family but Narcissa still kept in contact with her under the radar of her ever present family. In her last year at Hogwarts there was in 'incident' between the Gryffindor and Slytherin house, and because of this she was singled out along with Remus Lupin as the main ringleaders of this altercation, because of this the two of them were put in detention for a month together to force them to learn to get along. The truth of the matter is that the real ringleaders were her own cousin, Sirius Black and his best friend, James Potter on the Gryffindor side and Rabastan Lestrange on the Slytherin side and none of the three received any sort of punishment. During that month the two of them actually started a friendship and after they both graduated Hogwarts they ran into each other at a coffee shop. The meeting started what would be a long affair. Narcissa was madly in love with Remus, as he was with her. Remus had asked her to marry him, and she desperately wanted to, but in the back of her mind she could feel her family already turning away from her. At the same time, Narcissa's parents arranged a marriage between her and Lucius Malfoy, with one condition, she conceive a child by Lucius before hand. It had been rumored that Lucius was infertile, as this was not the first engagement for him. She had a heavy decision to make: would she leave Remus and start to sleep with Lucius in hopes that the rumors were wrong and he wasn't infertile? What she decided to do instead weighed on her heavily. She started making plans with Remus to leave her family and the Wizarding world behind so they could be together; she would sacrifice every luxury she had ever known, and he would sacrifice all his friends. At the same time, Narcissa started sleeping with Lucius at the same time to please her family. In a few months' time she became pregnant, but she knew in her heart that the baby belonged to Remus and not Lucius, who she seriously did suspect to be infertile from all the Wizard inbreeding. Instead of leaving her life behind, she started to think of the life of poverty that she and her unborn child would have and Narcissa couldn't handle it. Instead, she went to Lucius and told him that the child was his. The breakup between Narcissa and Remus terrible. She had told Remus that she was pregnant with Lucius' child and planned on marrying him. When Remus asked her how she could do this, she hated herself but pulled inside and said, "What? Did you think I wanted to be poor my whole life? Grow up, Remus!" With that she left him and went to become a Malfoy. Marriage to Lucius was not at all easy, and she learned that lesson quickly. For a time it seemed that Lucius actually wanted to have a true marriage with Narcissa, but she was heartbroken because of what had happened between her and Remus. Lucius then changed his attitude toward her. He began to take out any frustration out on her verbally, but he never laid a hand on her. It was as if he was afraid to touch her in any way that would be deemed as violent. This was not true when Draco was born. Even when Draco was just a child Lucius was much rougher with him, especially when angry, than he should have been. Narcissa was in fear for her child, and she knows she made what could be a deadly mistake. She also became a Death Eater trophy wife, throwing the lavish social get-togethers. Narcissa has never taken on the mark of a Death Eater; that is not her path. She was relieved when Voldemort was defeated the first time, thinking that maybe some of the craziness in her life would stop. Instead, it meant that Lucius stayed home more, and it meant that there was a lot of perception that had to be fixed when it came to the Malfoy name. She sometimes wonders if staying with Remus wouldn't have been easier. It was a mixed blessing when Draco had gotten his invitation to Hogwarts. Lucius had wanted him to go to Durmstrang, but Narcissa insisted that he go to Hogwarts instead so he could be closer to her. Draco was all that mattered to her and she refused to have him sent so far away, even if it meant being berated by Lucius. With Draco at Hogwarts she at least knew he was safe from one of Lucius' rages. Draco has just recently found out that Remus is his real father, and because of this it has caused her to become in contact with Remus again. She still has feelings for him, but there is a large amount of bad blood between the two that she is unsure can ever be overlooked or forgiven. Now she is concentrating on trying to get out of Malfoy Manor and never come back. Narcissa knows that as soon as Lucius finds out about the Draco's real father the line of never physically hurting her will definitely be crossed. |

Narcissa is a contradiction even to herself. She wants so much to be happy, and yet time and time again she will go against what she knows will make her happy and do the things that are required of her, either by her family or by the perception of the Wizarding world in general. As a child, Narcissa was the youngest of the Black sisters, and learned early in life to have the ability to be whatever the person she was with wanted her to be. To her sister Bellatrix, and her parents, she was the dignified pure-blood that they wanted her to be; looking her nose down at anything that was a drop less than pure-blood wizard. To her sister Andromeda, she was more laid back; perhaps more herself than she was with anyone else save for Remus Lupin. Narcissa has a tendency to hold in any feelings that she might have. She rarely shows emotion if she can help it. Instead she keeps it inside until she feels that she will almost explode. This has been something that she has done since she was a little child, and it was early on that she realized that under extreme moments of stress that it has a physical effect on the air around her as if effecting the weather. The effect doesn't last very long but can be powerful depending on just how much emotion she is holding in. Narcissa feels more resentment and hatred toward her husband, and she has never loved him. Yet, she tries very hard his presence to merely be cold or to seem to not be bothered by his moods. In public she puts on the persona as the perfect wife. In her time with Lucius, she has never strayed phsyically; though she has always held a torch for Remus. Narcissa cares deeply for her child. She cares for him more than she does herself, and she knows that it is only a matter of time that Lucius finds out that Draco is not his, but instead Remus' child. She is coming to terms that if she is not out of the house before that happens that he might very well kill her. She is also trying to live with the fact that the relationship with her son is now strained since he knows the truth about who his real father is. Her life seems to be as complicated right now as it was when she was 20, but this time she wants to make decisions that will make her happy instead of what is expected of her. |
