What with my pal littledivinity's Moonlighting watching, I have taken to rewatching a whole lot over the summer. And, well, David and Maddie have eaten my brain a little -- ergo (prepare yourselves) the first fanmix I've ever actually successfully completed! This is all quite vintage-y music, because try as I might, I just cannot bring myself to associate any contemporary music with David and Maddie. After all, they're all about the good old-fashioned bickering.

(I blame all of this on randomly realizing that 'Murder He Says' is a very good Maddie song a few days ago.)

And so, without further ado --

01. I've Got You Under My Skin (Frank Sinatra)

I tried so not to give in
I said to myself, 'This affair, it never will go so well'
But why should I try to resist
when baby, I know damn well
That I've got you under my skin?

Gotta love that sexual tension. Granted, they drive each other utterly insane, but there's no denying the sparkage.

02. Blue Moon (Billie Holiday)

Blue moon, now I'm no longer alone
Without a dream in my heart
Without a love of my own

Well, it is the name of the detective agency and all. And besides, David and Maddie are pretty damn glad to have found each other, although they're very seldom eager to admit it.

03. Down with Love (Michael Bublé & Holly Palmer)

Down with eyes, romantic and stupid
Down with sighs and down with Cupid
Brother, let's stuff that dove
Down with love!

I couldn't resist this, as it's an absolutely adorable duet. The lyrics are witty and clever, and it's got a nice back-and-forth repartee between the male part and the female part, which is in essence very Moonlighting-y. :)

04. Murder He Says (Tori Amos)

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

He says, chick chick
you torture me
zoom, are we livin'?
I'm thinkin' of leaving him flat

He says, dig dig the jumps
the old ticker is giving
he can talk plainer than that

He says, murder, he says
every time we kiss
he says, murder, he says
keep it up like this
and that murder, he says
in that impossible tone

will bring on nobody's murder
but his own

Poor classy Maddie, having to endure David's "do bees be?" and referring to the act of human procreation as "boinking," etcetera, etcetera -- it does tend to drive her a little bit nuts. To say the least.

05. The Best Is Yet To Come (Frank Sinatra)

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Wait till your charms are right for these arms to surround
You think you've flown before, but baby, you ain't left the ground
Wait till you're locked in my embrace
Wait till I draw you near

A tribute to David and his many, many charmingly crafted come-on's. :)

06. Alright, Okay, You Win (Peggy Lee)

Well, all right, okay, you win,
I'm in love with you,
Well, all right, okay, you win,
Baby, what can I do?

Sure, Maddie's in love with David, but that doesn't mean she has to be happy about it.

07. For Once In My Life (Michael Bublé)

For once I have someone I know won't desert me, and I'm not alone anymore
For once I can say, "This is mine, you can't take it"
As long as I know I've got love I can make it
For once in my life I've got someone who needs me

David tends to be irresponsible, and doesn't bother to take much seriously, but Maddie changes that a little -- she gives him something to hold onto. (Although usually not literally.)

08. Embraceable You (Judy Garland)

Dozens of boys would storm up
I had to lock my door
Somehow I couldn't warm up
To one before
What was it that controlled me?
What kept my lovelife lean?
My intuition told me
You'd come on the scene

Because Maddie just can't help but let David melt her icy exterior, at least a little.

09. Turn Me On (Norah Jones)

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

After all, you're the one who turns me off
But you're the only one who can turn me back on

They sure do have a tendency to get each other all hot and bothered. ;-)

10. Since I Fell For You (Barbra Streisand)

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

You better let love depart
I know it so, and yet I know
I can't get you outta my heart

Aww, this was something of their recurring theme song on the show. (Although not this particular version. It's just that I can't resist the Barbra.) The time they danced together in the pilot; when David was utterly miserably jealous at the end of season three . . . ah, good times, good times.

So, there we have it! Sorry, no zip file, because I'm on dial-up and . . . it would pretty much kill me dead.

Enjoy!
