whispering turns my brain into warm caramel goo.

so, if I'm having trouble sleeping I'll get on you tube and watch videos of people whispering. it usually only takes one at five minutes or so and I'm out. I used to think it was kind of weird, and I never told anyone, but I found a big brother clip with ten minutes of  whispering, and all the comments are about how much people like whispering and how they listen to it to fall asleep.

anyone else?

I hate big brother, and I hate gossip, but man that video knocks me out.

nobody whispers to me in real life, it's a shame. whispering seriously hypnotizes me. I would probably do anything you asked of me as long as you asked in a whisper. for serious.

hang on, there was someone... we used to go to her house really late to watch movies and her parents slept almost right by the living room so we'd whisper. as an added bonus she would rest her chin where my neck and shoulders meet while waiting for a response, which felt nice, and her hair would tickle my face. oooo, I was putty.

mmmm... if she had only asked.

shoulda kissed that one anyway. she so deserved it, and I so wanted to.
anybody who spends that much time with me deserves some sort of award.
a solid gold cup that says, "most patience", or something like that, with a free ticket to the day spa, some bath salts, and polish sausage.

man, that was years and years ago. I think my brain is self medicating, trying to fix the whole depression problem. I've been having lots of my warm and fuzzy thoughts bubble up out of nowhere lately. it's working. they're cheering me up. I just need to stay here one weekend and make some friends...

The official feed now includes the byline at the top, as requested by several people using feed readers that don't display the author properly.

For those who, like me, had trouble making out the words, here are the lyrics to "I Google You", posted by Mr. G in the comment thread to a blog post. The whole discussion there is interesting.

Many people wrote in to offer suggestions for a collective noun for Johns, most of them thinking along similar lines. Among the most intuitive were: a flushing, a trick, and a gospel.

Interesting search queries by which people arrived at neilgaiman.com over the past month: [oops nudity] - 51 hits, [community suffering] - 27, and [good omens slash] - 6. And now many more people will be ending up here for each of those.

Lastly, let's go to the mailbag!

Subject: Sometimes Real Life Is Too Strange

Neil,

A few nights ago, some crooks took advantage of some gullible people here in Portland by posing as Wells Fargo security guards and met people coming to make use of the night deposit slot at a local bank.

"The night deposit slot here is out of order. But if you'll put your deposit in this bag, we'll deliver it to another branch in the morning."

On the news tonight, our local NBC affiliate (KGW) pointed out that this is exactly like a scheme described in AMERICAN GODS, giving the page number in the trade edition of the book and holding that page up to the camera. (They don't have the video up of the version of the story with the reference to your book--if they post it, I'll send you the link for when you finally return to good Internet service.)

So if there's a sudden surge in sales of American Gods here in Portland, that's probably why.:)

John

This is actually not the first time such news was reported here.

Oh man, I totally just missed this and I had no idea. I saw the fireworks from my window and then immediately Googled it to see what was going on. Oh well, it's not like I had anyone to go with anyway.

This morning was awesome. I learned a new (short & easy) route to Ikea, had .99 breakfast + coffee (their coffee is actually pretty good; I was surprised) and ate at a windowed wall with a nice view of the Statue of Liberty, then spent about an hour and a half shopping and only ended up spending $22 on a few little things for my room. I also made notes of some furniture and other knick-knacks for future trips, and got an idea for how to cover my awkward 17" window. Then when I was done I took a different route back to see what it was like. Also super easy and pretty short. This is a good thing and a bad thing. Bad because I might end up spending half of my time in Ikea.

Oh man, I love Ikea. Does anyone know if the Brooklyn one is the largest in the country? I've read that at a few places, but I don't know if it's true. It is pretty massive, but I have no idea how it compares to other stores, since it's the only one I've been to.

One day I'm going to take the water taxi there just to see what it's like.

ldkjshldskjhlhjgasfjhg

Anyway, after Ikea I came back to the apartment to drop off my big blue bag, pick up some groceries, and have lunch. Then I headed out to Target and finally got the sheet set I wanted! I saw it last week, but they were out of stock of the full size. Then when I went back they were out of all sizes. Today the shelf was fully stocked, including full size, so I picked up a set and it turns out that it was on sale for $8!! Score!! Also? I failed to mention this before, but it is too freakin' convenient to get to Target from here. One of the subways nearest my apartment has a stop inside the mall the Target is in. Seriously. I love it.

I think I am going to stay in for the rest of the day. I need to be up early tomorrow for the cable company. Ha. If they are done by a reasonable hour (again, ha), I might try to catch a movie before the assembly service gets here to set up my Expedit.

I can't freakin' wait till this weekend!!!

it's guy love, he's mine I'm his

THE END. I am basically guaranteeing that someone from either Sonata or Nightwish will stumble on my comic at some point now. And so, when Tony causes my ultimate demise (because I'm pretty sure Tuomas would be alright with this) remember I left your name out of the comic [info]arctic_silence! You will be spared from his wrath so you may share my story! And end it with "I think Tony Kakko doth protest too much." MAY THE RUMORS BEHIND THEIR FRIENDSHIP LIVE ON!

In all seriousness though, I AM TOTALLY JOKING. (haha best oxymoron ever) I'm going to write up a huge disclaimer in the character bios basically stating that the muses are extremely loosely based on their counterparts, huge creative liberties are taken and the end result is highly fictional. It is like the South Park of metal. Only I think South Park is the South Park of metal. So yeah, as far as their real life relationships? I haven't a clue.

Also, I need this shirt.

I have many many options and extremely limited internet access with which to do some research... please help?

What are some decent movie theatres in Manhattan or Brooklyn where I could catch a 'blockbuster' type movie (e.g. Pineapple Express or Tropic Thunder); someplace I would feel safe going alone?

Also, what is the best price I can expect to find? At home I could go see a movie for 4.75. I'm not expecting that kind of deal here, but like, is there anything in the $10 or less range? Or am I being completely unrealistic?

we had to spend all last night in the dark. our lights went out little before 9 and didn't come back on till almost 2 am, due to some transformer blowing out er something like that. it was so boring, but i guess it'd could have been worse. i hardly slept, but still woke up at 8 am. had a nice breakfast, then on to smoking. now i'm nice and high and cold. i need to shower and leave my house. just cause. i so want some starbucks. and new clothes.

more smoke. followed by a much needed shower. a nice way to spend my morning.

Thursday, August 21 at 7:30 PM at the Helen Mills Theater on 137-139 West 26th Street NYC 10001

New York, NY -- On August 21, Cory Doctorow, award-winning author and co-editor of the popular blog Boing Boing and experimental writer / artist / musician Paul Miller, a.k.a. D.J. Spooky That Subliminal Kid team up for a multimedia speaking event benefiting the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund. Following their respective presentations, Doctorow and DJ Spooky will take the stage together for an open forum discussion about their work and the futurepresent each eloquently addresses across different media.

Loose bits:

Item 1 :: Today I ordered the RoboPanda.

Item 2 :: One of my Secret Plans currently in gestation requires some medical supplies. If you work in a hospital, drop me a line. Medical supplies are go! Thank you all for your interest and help. (Side note: I had no idea Mr. G had so many veterinarian fans.)

Item 3 :: I have received word that Maddy has agreed to do some blogging during this hiatus. All the world rejoices!

Item 4 :: How cool was the fourth Coraline featurette? It featured the Other Father (voiced by John Hodgman) singing a song by They Might Be Giants (aka John Flansburgh and John Linnell). Three! Three Johns in one!

I'm starting fresh!

Since I guess I'm grown up enough to have a little shame and somewhat of a sense of privacy, I'd like to really restrict who reads this. Maybe then, I'd 'blog' more.

Anyway, not to be one of those people writing one of these kinds of entries/bulletins/whathaveyou.. BUT, what I'm going to do is delete all my friends. For those of you who still use this old thing, and would like to, for some crazy reason, read my ramblings, let me know, and I'll add you back. Maybe.

Regardless, blogging is stupid and we're still pals!

Why did I get off at disappointment avenue?!

Oh noes! Almost done with this arc, yay! Then I'll go back to random comics, hopefully. Man, I go back to school Thursday, hopefully that won't interrupt anything. I want to keep the comic going throughout the school year, although I might stop for exam week.

Also, THIS IS NEAT.
