Had a really nice time in Maryland... After her photoshoot, jinxed_delusion & I stayed with her parents for a few days, visited with her family, and hung out in Baltimore a little, which was surprisingly a pretty cool place once I learned which areas to go to. Drove back home today with a very healthy profit, and hung out with the roommates for some "Squidbillies" & (the surprisingly funny film) "Just Friends".
I also determined that I'm going to be out of town every single weekend (and it's looking like several weekdays too) until October... I do love being a road-warrior... though I seriously wouldn't mind a few quiet evenings at home.
Ww I need to sleep... it's like 6:40am and somehow I'm still awake.

| i need to start writing in here again.. for myself.... anyway, this is a good start |
[17 Aug 2008|04:00am] |
i'm drunk.. that's okay, this time, cause its not me stumbling home irresponsibly from the saucer or from someone's house.. tonight i'm drunk with the satisfaction that tonight was a meaningful experience..
that said, it did start at a bar.. the flying saucer of course.. of course thats the first place i think of going after working at the pool for 10 hours on a saturday.. i enjoyed it too.. i convinced megan to be my company, wherein jon bohanon and taylor foster found us, and eventually their friends and dave joined our party.. we had our fun and the occasion seemed to come to a close uneventfully.. so i go home post-midnight with many a thought on my mind..
i only had 4 beers there, which i suppose isn't a whole lot, but it was enough to get me a'thinkin' about myself, my life, and some events which have transpired over the past summer.. i do some rash instant messaging (equatable to drunk dialing), which i'm currently too inebriated to discern whether or not i should have done, then continue with my internal monologue of thought..
with such thought comes some internal doubt and depression--which overanalyzation is often easy to produce--so my immediate reaction is to seek company.. but my mind is flowing with thought, so i want more than company, i want dialogue... i want some external opinion on my current thoughts.. so i hit up the ginger king, david, and ask if he wants to go walk around the neighborhood or something and talk.. and i pick a good night to suggest that because he and i happened to be on a similar wavelength..
so we walk. i love walking and talking with people, its something i don't do that often anymore, but it still invokes a great amount of passion and enjoyment out of me.. i set our destination on the closest (open) gas station (On the Run) because i want to buy some smokes.. probably turned out to be a good 2-3 mile round trip.. ironically at the gas station we ran into Kiley, which i mention for the mere fact that it was ironic.. the true relevance to me writing this entry though is the conversation dave and I held along the way (and after we returned)..
the specifics of our dialogue was--well yeah, it was personal--but its not entirely relevant to what i'm trying to say.. we talked about a lot though, ranging from personal venting and discussions about our own social confusions ("anomie" is the word) to existential philosophy that helps to shape our own worldviews.. case in point: i'm really glad i asked dave if he wanted to go on a walk tonight.. had i not, i (and probably he too) would have been eating myself up in my own perceptions and analyzations (is the proper word analysis's?? either way you get my point..hopefully).. instead i go to sleep tonight feeling i've built upon some productive thought.
thanks for being there for me tonight dave.. i love you man

Greetings from Washington D.C.! Well, close enoguh anyway... actually I'm in Northern Virginia at the moment, and Maryland tomorrow... (truthfully I won't even piss in D.C.- that city sucks lol)
Sitting around while jinxed_delusion's in the studio doing her paid shoot... we're heading up to Maryland & visiting her family tomorrow.
I have had a fantastic fucking week. Been hanging with darth_justin, silent_cold, torched2death, mixtresskrikett & a couple others the past few days... watching movies, playing video games, shooting the shit & what not... it's been really nice to just chill and not worry about work or work-related things.
Next weekend, I'm heading out to the Tennessee Valley Resort with the misses for a much needed personal vacation... and of course the weekend after that is DragonCon in Atlanta, Ga!
Speaking of DragonCon... I just found out that The Cruxshadows, Voltaire & Mindless Self Indulgence are all performing... that makes me very happy!!
Anyways, just thought I'd give a little update on my life & what not. Take care folks! =)

So I read this comic today, and it literally made me furious.
Lemme preface:
I like Frank Miller. At least his batman stuff, I haven't read a lot of Sin City or Daredevil, but I loved Year One, and I dug Dark Knight Returns. They were interesting takes on the batman universe. Unexpected and thought provoking.
So I've been meaning to read this one title, "All-star Batman and Robin the boy wonder", it's a non-cannon origin story about robin and pseudo the justice league.
Oh God. Drew warned me, but I just wasn't prepared. It was bad. BAD. It pretty much took everything people read batman for and pissed on it. Here are some reviews, they say it as good as I could have:
"Iann Robinson, writing for Crave Online, wrote an essay critical of All Star Batman and Robin, calling it "a comic series that just spirals deeper and deeper into the abyss of unreadable. I understand Miller's need to re-invent, but this is just badly done and in poor taste." Robinson commented that "the art by Jim Lee is first rate [and] really wonderful to look at, [but] Frank Miller has stripped Batman of all of his dignity, class, and honor. This isn't the Dark Knight; this is Dirty Harry in a cowl. The worst part is that this is exactly what Batman isn't about.""
Comics journalist Cliff Biggers, in Comic Shop News #1064 (November 7, 2007), called the series "one of the biggest train wrecks in comics history", expressing amazement at how he feels Frank Miller disregarded every aspect of Batman's character in order to tell "a Sin City story in bat-garb." Reviewing issue #7, Biggers excoriated the sequence with Batman and Black Canary as "farcical" and "Tarantinoesque", arguing that Miller's work could not get worse. Biggers gave the issue a "D", explaining that it would be an "F" if not for Jim Lee's art, and suggested that to salvage the work, DC should reprint the book with blank word balloons and let readers submit their own scripts.
Ugg, spot on. (Those were from the wiki article on the comic).
Though, I'm not incredibly crazy about Lee's art on this. I think it may have been one of the things that caused this comic to be so bad. He's all gigantic boobs and walls of muscles on guys. Totally idealized fan service. His art looks great, I'll admit, but certainly does not mesh with Miller's writing style. With Loeb, it worked for Hush. Loeb isn't quite so psycho analytical.
But, it just makes me so frustrated! It could have been so great, Jim Lee, Frank Miller? You'd at least expect it to be good! I mean, this is the man that wrote The Dark Knight Returns, and depicted one of the classiest, respectable-even-when-he's-coughing-up-blood-at-the-age-of-fifty-something Batmen. A Batman who told the "new" Robin to sit up straight and watch her language when she said ass. And he introduces himself as "the Goddamn Batman"??? What?? This is the man that wrote the most badass Gordon stories, comparing him (and almost surpassing) to batman himself. And suddenly Gordon is reduced to a emasculated school boy, begging for attention because his alcoholic wife (what in the hell??) ignores him?
And I don't want to even get into all that business with the budding Justice League and the idiotic, sexist portrayal of Wonder Woman.
UggggGGGGG!
Anyway, I just got back from the beach with Drew's family. I had a great time, ate a lot of great food and had fun. I also read a lot of comics in our down time and now want to get into two titles: X-Factor, a X-Men side story, and the Ultimates, the ultimate universe Avengers. My life is going really well. Apart from fleas. So I guess that's why I only ever come on here to rant about comics and movies. If I didn't, I'd have nothing to really discuss.

Purgatory Was Fucking Awesome! I had a great time, hung out with so many amazing people, watched 3 killer stage acts, jammed out to the best DJ lineup I've seen in years... partied like a rockstar... and left the club feeling great... Oh yeah, and by 6:00am was ridiculously sore from possibly the best sex of my life.
Took 2 days to fully recover... now on Monday after a wonderful afternoon IHOP breakfast... I can't do anything but smile.
I'd update more... but do I really have to?

I love my job! =)

| Last of the spam... a bit of a 'tease' of my own... |
[09 Aug 2008|11:00pm] |
Well, I feel somewhat lame here with my dinky little four posts, but I'm tossing in the towel and headed for bed! Last post is going to be kind of a tease though. ^^; See, one of these days, when Ion is done, I plan on dishing out a random series of what I've come to think of in my head as 'Ion Vignettes'... kind of modeled after Plaid's BFB ii kibarashi. They'll just be little shorts from different POVs and since one of them actually decided to write itself this week, I thought I would share. Just a musing from Heero....

Wow, you guys have been busy! O.O I was only gone for a few hours, and I was going to catch up before I posted anything else, but... spam day will be over if I do! ^o^ So to hopefully make up for the lack of number, I bring ficlet! Of the humorous kind. Well... I HOPE it's humorous, at least. >_> Preventerness of the 1x2 variety from Trowa's POV...

So merula31 came up with the Spam Day idea that you've probably been seeing mentioned here and there... I didn't bother warning you guys because I doubt I'll manage more than two or three posts! ^o^ Especially since I'm not sure how much I'm going to manage to be on today. So here's my first 'spam' post for the day. A link! Don't know if anybody remembers the pic I posted aaaaages ago, when I was working on the GW Pillow Chibi quilt, of my cat being ooooooh so helpful... http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b66/Sunhawk16/Quilt_02cat.jpg But apparently, I am not the only one has had a helpful cat at some point or other in their crafting lives! http://www.flickr.com/groups/catsnquilts/pool/ Thanks to Enna for sharing the site! What's cooler than gorgeous quilts and adorable kitties! ^_____^
