What's the point?

Okay, well here is my rant of the day.
Dating, why do it? Please attempt to read this.

I'm really beginning to think that dating in highschool is such a joke. I mean I just don't really understand it. I mean most people like someone, waste some time hoping they like them back and when they do one of them asks the other "out".
What does "will you go out with me" really actually mean? I mean now that I think of it, if a common friend asked you this, you'd probally reply "where?"
But if it's someone you like, this phrase gives you permission to kiss them, hold hands with them, call them your girlfriend or boyfriend, and possibly take them out somewhere.
Well half the time, people get real excited to hear this. What happens from there? They change their msn name's almost immediately, and after a few make-out sessions, or compliments of a sort they're ready for marriage. Then what happens- a week later the love of their life has left them. These people need lives, I really can't stand people like you... so go away.
Don't throw around the word "love" people, it's pretty strong. Love is for people about to get married, not for someone to be dumped the next week.
Then there's the couple's are "way serious", date for several months(let's say more than 4), things are going well I suppose. Then out of nowhere usually, someone dumps the other person. Why? Usually the reason isn't much of a reason. And you hurt after.
Is a couple months of making-out and compliments really worth being hurt or depressed in the end? I think not. But I mean, I'm probally a hyprocryte right? I've dated before, some for shorter amounts of time others longer.  But I mean, why do people do it?
What even makes someone attracted to another person? Who knows. It's all very confusing, but I know I'm really not into that whole scene right now. It's way to confusing for me. But that was my rant so thanks for reading it if you got this far.
