Potential Design [21 Jun 2009|02:06pm]
[ mood | pessimistic ]
[ music | Amerie- All I Have ]

Next month i'll be part of a fashion show for Urban League. When it was first offered to me, i was under the impression that i'll just be selling my jewelry and i was cool with that. Then as i got more information, the truth was they wanted me to make 3-5 pieces for a fashion show *doh*. Ya'll, i dont like fashion shows! Too much pressure!

However, i do remember telling God that i wanted to challenge myself in actually making clothes, and HERE IT IS!! *sigh*.

I wanted to keep it VERY simple and really be afrocentric (a reflection of me obviously). So last weekend i called myself doing a test bubble skirt before i do it on the final fabric. Ya'll, i hit so many stumbling blocks, but i worked through it. After a long 6 hours i finally put on the bubble skirt and wanted to cry out of frustration. For the remainder of the week i was discouraged, disappointed, and unmotivated. This was one of the prime reasons i hated making clothes: you invest so much time to only get crappy results. *sigh* I mean, i DO realize that the more you do it, the better you'll get but iono, i just wasn't up to it, after all, i dont have much time. The show is only 2 weeks away and i dont have much time. Anyways, for those who are nosy and who care, this is somewhat what i have so far.

The skirt was originally "bubbled" , but i took it apart and just left the seams raw. So now it's just a high waisted skirt:

Crochet'd Penis [21 Jun 2009|01:42pm]

I wanted to make something pointless, useless, yet jaw dropping (pun intended *giggles*). So I crochet'd a giant penis. Do you like?

Tattoo Contemplation [23 Apr 2009|09:29pm]
Many of my tatt'd friends would like for me to get a tattoo and would want to be there when i get one, however i've ALWAYS been iffy about it for MANY reasons.

1. I'm dark skint, color dont show well and the ink fades and just melts into my skin. I've yet to see a tat look good to me, over time, on a fellow dark skint beauty

2. I would have to deal with it for the rest of my life, it's permanent. So whatever i decide on, it's something that i'll enjoy for years on end

3. The maintenance. I dont wanna have to drop another $100+ to get re-inked

4. Originality, no tat is EVER original. Point Blank Period

Anyways, if i ever were to get one of course it'll be afrocentric and reflection of me. I've always thought of doing ankhs but those are so doggone common on people of ALLLLL races. Then i saw this beauty

That's Goddess Willendorf, she looks just like me. Low bress (breasts), big belly, nappy hair, thunder thighs. And seeing that photo just made me think "OH! that's the one!". But then i think about the placement and all of that other crap.

What do ya'll think?

Fashion Designers: BE AWARE! [16 Apr 2009|07:48pm]
This is my boy Jerome aka EmoreJ a fellow fashion designer speaking some truth about fashion shows. Now, i haven't done NEARLY as many shows as he has, however i know where he's coming from. He has been featured in some shows, as well as, hosted some productions himself. The brotha knows his stuff and i think that those who are interested in going into the fashion career should think about this and be conscious about this business.

It takes thousands of dollars to put on a fashion show. So, watch this:

First Crochet Pattern [16 Mar 2009|10:39am]
[ mood | hopeful ]

DOOKIE CHAIN CROCHET PATTERN

Disclaimer: This is my very first pattern. Please test it out and see if you can find any errors or if you can suggest any way for me to make it more clearer. If and when you do, please inform me so that i can revise and modify it. Please contact me at KeenaButtah@hotmail.com

Level: Beginner/Easy
Gauge: NONE!!
Hook Size: Optional. I played with hook sizes "I" & "J"
Yarn: Any that you like. Just keep in mind, thicker the yarn, bigger the hook size you'll need to use and the bigger your chain will look
Note: This pattern you can easily improvise to your liking, have fun testing it in various sizes. The bigger the better, honey! To get the round like appearance of each chain, use your fingers to curl in the edges of the finished link. Some people stuff it with batting then sew each link closed, but that's too much work!

Directions:

First Chain

Step 1: Chain 15-22 stitches then slip stitch to close.

Step 2: Chain 1, then single crochet (SC) around the loop. Continue to SC in rounds, do about 5 rows (or more). End off.

2nd Chain

Repeat Step 1, but don't slip stitch to close yet.
Insert the chain into the previous link, then slip stitch to close.
Now repeat Step 2.

Repeat the steps until you have as many links as you like.

Once you get to your last ending link, connect the chain (Step 1) in between your first and previous links (2 links) and continue onto Step 2. End off and you're FINISHED!

Up and Down [06 Jan 2009|09:45pm]
[ music | Tonex- Incense and Candles ]

I'm at a low point right now :( . I feel uninspired, afraid, and unoriginal. However for whatever odd reason when i feel this way, i get affirmation from someone telling me otherwise.

Last month i participated in a Secret Santa on Nappturality.com, a natural hair website. I aint a holiday person but i thought "Why not bless someone with OG (original) goods...?!". So the person I got lives way over yonder in Canada. First i mailed off her gift late cuz i was procrastinating and scared (lawd this has got to stop). Then with Customs and holiday mail traffic, she didn't receive her gift until 2-3 weeks later. Anyways.. reading her reactions made me smile and tear up a bit...

You see how she scanned the card i drew for her and put it as her avatar?!?! How cute!! LOL
People kill me with the "When you blow up..." line. I just inhale and receive it all.

Aight, just wanted to share that tidbit.

Now i'm about to call my new online friend, a fellow plus sized fashion designer, Thai. She found me on myspace and hit me up to show me her plus sized collection. Already she has extended her hand to encourage me in these low uninspired times. It can be a challenge to find fellow artists who are willing to build you up without thinking you're "biting" them. I believe i deserve this cuz i'm always uplifting other creative folks, now it's my turn...

Officially Loc'd [03 Jan 2009|10:09pm]
Thanks to Jervae [info]jervae, James Sexy [info]aconflictedsoul, my girl Ominy, my best friend Gio, as well as the sistas on Nappturality.com for encouraging and motivating me to loc. Believe it or not, most of my friends (online and off) didn't want me to do it for whatever odd reason. It was only due time for me. I've been natural since forever and i wanted something new. I'm loving what i see so far. No regrets!!!!

For those who might wonder/care:

Started with: Comb Coils
Products used: olive oil + honey+ Fruit of the Earth Aloe Vera Gel mixed (wasn't measured, just winged it).
