These are some prototype pieces I crafted for a project. We're basically working on the ergonomics and overall design for construction toys (plastic injection? yeah, a total bitch).

I shot this one outside the window of my car, on the way to school.

The following are from Chapultepec, the most famous public park in Mexico City.

Again in Chapultepec, there are a bunch of these 70's industrial light posts all over the place. Many of them are out of order or simply in a strange condition between life and death, notice the difference in the lights.

Tripod, quick photo manipulation and other crap.

A couple of weeks back, my photography professor (or pee pee) lent me a tripod as an incentive, considering I was pretty much the only one in class who brought back results after three weeks of procastination.

Needless to say, I managed to fuck up about 62 photos trying to get a nicely exposed picture.

These were taken on top of a bridge right under a second floor highway less than a block away from my house. Said second floor has an infamous political story on it's back, not being the most glorified construction in the city (and yet being used by just about everyone), it's mostly a symbol of how our society does it's best to "look" like a first world country, even though we're barely staying out of the third world list.

The following one, though, is from my rooftop. I have a couple more of these, including one with a black cat staring at me. I'll just need to give 'em a few pokes with photoshop to adjust contrast and sharpness. Since the lab I take most of my stuff to is always working under pressure, they really don't take much time on each photo (what could you expect for 10 cents per photo?).

Funny how I'm so used to experience life in the city. Considering I'm hardly calm at night if I don't hear the sound of cars passing by. It's kinda like listening to the sea if you live on the beach, or hard winds on the mountains. Steering steel over concrete is the new ambient sound. Total silence and isolation are nightmares to us children of the post-modern world.

The following pics are just a couple things I shot for different albums I'm working on right now. All the flowers belong to "flora"...

Yes, it HAS been a while. I could list the reasons I haven't been very active for the last... well.. months, but I'd really come short in terms of actually respectable excuses.
My life really didn't get too exciting since I started writing on LJ, and I'm kinda tired of filling these pages with useless rants about it, instead I've decided to turn this into a photojournal of sorts (you might have noticed most of my updates include a picture or two at least lately). I'll be uploading art, pictures and other short anecdotes when the time comes.

So yeah, that's my return, techincally.

Anyway, the following are some scans of (the best pictures in) the three albums I slowly collected last year between the months of august and November.

Somewhere around October, Kioshi and I went to teotihuacan to get some sweet-ass pictures of the ancient city to fill a small photography album and report.

That stupid, STUPID chain.

Unluckily for us, it wasn't quite the sunniest day ever...

... Which kinda shows in all the pictures.

Some surfaces seem flat because of the film we used (I usually recommend Tri-X 400), ours was 125, I think.

You may also connect some imperfections to the fact that it was 8 am and we didn't know what the hell we were doing so far away from our bed at that time of the day.

I didn't quite understand depht of field at the time, either.

Notice the tiny people in the back and compare them to the structures.

Now, this ain't Mayan at all, of course. Aztec civilizations came in some time later...

... the point is, I watched "Apocalypto" and Mel's interpretation of prehispanic culture in it is out of context, anachronic and overall racist. The movie is full of shit, really.

People who made these, they're not savages, you know?

We'll skip a century later away from this rant and into (late) Colonial Architecture...

This is the temple of Santo Domingo, a few blocks away from the core of Mexico City.

This was the first actual convent in Mexico, built around 1527.

Of course, it's gone through several states of construction and modifications.

There was a flood somewhere in 1629, but it didn't quite affect this temple or the small market right next to it. People were batshit insane abour religion at the time.

I havent settled on a title yet, but "Chronicles of the electricity in my pants" sounds pretty tempting, despite me not being sure of what that has to do with the actual interior.

Here's a small set of chapter titles and a brief resume of their content:

Chapter 1 - I like explosions.
Jazbeck offers a profound analysis about the art of dividing objects into the smallest particles will all sorts of dangerous physical and chimical reactions and the apparent intelectual pleasure it gives him.

Chapter 2 - Sociology, Politics and a guy that's made out of parrots.
Always objective, the text guides us through the peculiar vision of the author about his social and political context, including metaphors which are harder to understand than the topic that originated them.
Also introduced, is a brief description of what seems to be a man constituted entirely by birds.

In what the author assures was a "diabetic attack", the following 63 pages of the book concentrate on writing down word by word the transcription of a telephone conversation in which the reader can only comprehend what one of the speakers is saying. Among some of the anecdotes included in this chapter, comes the first true explanation on why someone would ask for a couple of gigantic breasts made out of jell-o for a 15 year old girl's birthday party or the need to reach morbid obesity just for the pleasure of seeing less of himself once the mirror isn't wide enough.

Chapter 4 - That scene in which Batman stands on a skyscraper after beating the living shit of a bunch of thugs at the docks.
116 exciting pages retelling the sexual confusion felt by the author as he watched said scene in the film "Batman Begins". What seems to be an inevitable fall down the rainbow slide into a homosexual fixation for Christian Bale's Batman is quickly forgotten when Jazbeck feels the need to run to the bathroom after drinking all of his partner's soda.

Chaper 5 - Stupid Arms.
Jazbeck achieves to capture the frustration of the opressed proletary masses and their constant struggle to recover the power which rightfully belongs to them in what might just also be a very long rant about his pathetic attempts to do just one push up without touching the ground or whimpering like an average overweight ten year old.

Chapter 6 - In retrospective, a single kick wasn't enough to stop him.
The experimental section of the book welcomes us with a short tale about the frustrated attempts of the author to describe all of his actions in a day through traditional third person narrative. The situation reaches climax when the introduction of dialogue boxes and balloons made out of cardboard becomes intolerable by his companions.

Chapter 7 - Mendoza.
In an excersise of tolerance, Jazbeck makes the day's mission to change his last name for something more common an easier to spell. His efforts become agony when he finds out Mendoza can also be written with an S.

Chapter 8 - Hyper gravity boots and other million dollar ideas.
Including exhaustively detailed blueprints of his creations, the author attempts to persuade us to invest in the future mass production of Hyper Gravity Boots (with turbines pointing up, forcing the user to walk with 7 times his total corporal mass pushing down), chromed shirts with extra reflecting surface, dust machines, a dog shaped guitar and the now famous finger-cracking ring.

The book also includes a four word introduction by Tom Clancy and the pages 75 to 300 can be cut in the middle to hide a cantimplore or a blade with the shape of a cantimplore.

I bet someone's gonna freak over this...

To ach his own, I guess.

Anyway, Muse just managed to offend me.

I know, I know, I've praised them a lot before, most of the time I liked to ignore the fact they had some seriously shitty videos with some terrible taste ideas (for fucks sake Matt, what the fuck is it with you and space?) but this really offends me man.

'Knights of Cydonia' is a good song, it's the only good song in the new album, at that, since the others seem to be variations of what they've been doing since Origin of Symetry. They seemed to run out of ideas halfway through Absolution so I can't blame them for making a record with the absolute intention of international success with the same formula.
Knights was the only piece stepping on new grounds there...

But jesus, that's a horrible video. It's not funny, really, it's not funny. Maybe it's me but I never thought mocking cheesy movies from the golden age of low-budget films was too hilarious to begin with... parody is a very sensitive area of comedy, and when it's done right it must be smooth and penetrating. This ain't neither smooth not penetrating, it's just fucking stupid.

They make fun of Sergio Leone's classic movies (*bows*), while including spoofs to Roger Cornman in the same goddamn video... so now I know Matt and company are the kind of people who'll file "The exorcist" along with "Hostel" or some shitty zombie movie.

What I mean is, they're fucking with pop culture, and that should be fine, if it was done the right way (family guy, the simpsons and even south park can do it), but the video is bullshit, it's not comedy, it's ignorance. Even pop culture has a level of sofistication and ideal of canon.

I thought they had some respect for popular culture and arts when I heard 'Knights of Cydonia', I wanted to believe it was a sort of homenage to Ennio Morricone with a nod to many other geniuses of their time, but nooo... turns out all they wanted it to be was some cheap, idiotic, spoof of the age.

Fuck the makers of the video, honestly. I hate this kind of ignorant shit.

Again, the new album bored the crap out of me with the only exception of that song, just like I feared the moment I stepped into tower records and heard "butterflies and hurricanes" as background music, Muse is heading down the spiral of american audiences and fame, which also means wasted formulas, more stupid videos and too many 12 year old girls listening to it. MTV, here we go!

So I've been lazy to write in my LJ, I dunno, I guess I've cared more about all the spanish-related stuff as of late...

hey, it's easier to write anyway.

So I'll showeth ye a couple pix I took a week or so ago, when a couple folks and I visited the museum of contemporary arts. By the way, this museum is deep within the most famous park in mexico city, chapultepec.

It is in said park where the new comic book I'm makin' will take place, but more on that in the future.

That's the only cow they left when the cow parade came to Mexico. It's a reminder of another monument close over the same avenue. The angel of Independence.

SEMONSTER IS OVER!

The last two weeks have been hard on me, physically, mentally and luckily not emotionally.

Anyway, you could consider me officially a design zombie by last thursday, it's the longest time I've spent awake, almost 40 hours of non stop going to school, writing, drawing cutting, having a break for coffee or coke to keep me awake and then back to work.

But now I'm free for a month and a half, I think it's a good time to start again the ol' girl huntin spree while playing with the band at some other small gigs all over town.

Now, since I don't have anything very interesting to tell you about, here's a picture raid...

So, the three assignments I had were to emulate a digital picture of a bottle with traditional techniques (color pencils, acuarelle, acrilic paint and other stuff), make a compossition based on other design products which represents a certain visual style (embellishment, functionalism, primitivism and expressionism) and a shitload of geometry sheets.

What I have here is the last thing I delivered (I'll show you the emulating stuff later), it's the visual style referent, it was 1 m x 50cm x10cm, and the visual style I got was Embellishment... to get a somewhat clear idea on that, just think of stuff from the barouche period back in the day, and most jewelry from tiffanny's actually.

Long story short, Gibran and I have been hangin' around lately, since it's been roughly eight months of zero talk with him or anyone else in the highschool clan (gibran, luis, odin and paul), he decided to make up a reunion thing for June 10th, working also as a small space to meet all the new people we know and some more, and also to bring in some bands and get a pretty small gig goin' on.

I was in the moment he invited me, which also meant I had to organize the whole friggin' thing even though it was HIS party... anyway, my first worry was getting a bassist before that time who could at least play a 10 song set list with us and sound somewhat good.

To explain this point... remember Alberto? well, remember he was dating blanca behind my back while she played games with me?
yeah ok, I don't necessarily blame him for the games thing, even though I'm still hurt because he wouldn't say anything. Well, turns out he slowly placed distance between him and not only me, but the band as well. For some reason, from one day to another, he shifted into a completely different person, avoiding our calls and missing rehearsals.

8 months later, you have a band without one of it's strenghts, a chair without a leg.

I still called him, though, to see if he was interested in playing on june 10th, for the sake of old days, he said he couldn't do it because he was going on vacation. I asked where... There was a three second silence before I gave him the thanks for all the time he played with us and hung up, avoiding any stupid lies.

And so, we got a temporary replacement, of course he isn't nearly as good as alberto was, and I doubt anyone I know is (we're still doing "auditions"), yet we pulled off a somewhat solid 10 song set list.

Last checkup before heading out on a two hour journey to Gibran's house.

So NBC is gonna have a new show on fall, called "Heroes"... it's about a bunch of ordinary people realizing they have amazing abilities. There's a japanese man who can teleport, a dude who paints the future, a police officer who can hear people's thoughts and a cheerleader who finds she's unbreakable, among others...

Get to NBC's site and check out the goddamn 4 min. peek, it looks fuckin' awesome.
