An excerpt from the Toronto Poetry Slam website:

"What did August’s audience enjoy? Valentino and Molle busting out a tightly written duo piece; Stina Sativa givin us a taste of what she’s all about, which includes a healthy dose of blunts and B.C. bud; Gypsy Eyes reminding us about the joys of “poetry tag”; Macer taking us on another ride up to Dawson City in a story about a woman named Lou; and Elyse mesmerizing our attention with a tender poem about the joys of finding beauty in your own skin."

Right now I feel like I am on the brink of the rest of my life and more than ever, I need to make things happen. So much to do and the rest of my life to do it. Thank you, thank you, thank you :)

This is quite possibly the cutest thing that's ever happened to me.

The six year old daughter of one of my faculty members was sitting on my lap playing Neopets, telling me all about her day. She said: My teacher, Judy, asked us to tell her what we wanted to be when we grew up. I said I wanted to be a vegetarian, so I could help animals.

Oh my god. The adorable factor – it was high!

"On the Record" (Fox News) BSB interview this week - preview video

August 19th, 2008 3:38 PM Eastern
Backstreet Boys!!
by Greta Van Susteren

As you know if you read GretaWire, we interviewed the Backstreet Boys at Wolf Trap…they are extremely talented and very, very, very, very nice….you will see the interview soon but in the meantime, here is a minute or so we shot with my handycam (OTR Producer Cory Howard actually shot.) This is NOT what you will see when you watch ON THE RECORD at 10pm — we had a professional shooter with a professional camera and a professional audio person….this is just a tease..a tease for the night we show you the interview in full ….and this is also a bit of the behind the scenes…you will want to tune in for the interview ON THE RECORD at 10pm (Friday night???)

.... and now, my first attempt at embedding a video:

Opinions wanted: FRE412 or FRE313?

I'm trying to decide between these two courses:

FRE412H Francophone Cinema: French Cinema and Nation, taught by D. De Kerckhove
FRE313H Advanced topics in Quebec literature II: Diaries of Women Writers (formerly FRE411H), taught by J. Leblanc

Both courses would fulfill my POSt requirements, but I can only take one this year. The anti-calendar doesn't have information on either of those courses.

Has anyone taken either of these courses, or had either of these professors ? Any comments ?

your opinions on seminars..

I'm not very good at in-class writing assignments but I'm pretty good at take home essays. Will there be a lot of in-class writing in seminars and is the grading easier?

I also need some insight on these professors (niceness, helpfulness, easiness..) and the workload.

Families and Health.. L. Tepperman
Observing Contemporary Culture.. I. Kalmar

Where can I found a hypoallergenic, naturally dust mite resistant mattress pad/topper?

Yeah it's me again.

This sort, but to buy from a store (no shipping) and at a reasonable price?

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

One thing that will _never_ stop amazing me-- pariahs are always looking for pariahs in training, so quick to forget their own heads once they're off the chopping block.

today was my first day of school at winter springs high. the thing that i feared the most wasn't bad at all, and the things i feared the least were.  for example, i feared how the older kids would treat me, transferring from classes, and lunch. they went by smoothly. although, my classes weren't so great and getting up at 5:30 really took it's toll on me. i'm also fearing the mornings and who's going to get there first and where we're going to wait and all of these things. tropical storm/hurricane fay is coming tomorrow. hopefully that goes by okay. i'm just going to pray and i know that everything's going to be alright.

Binding services (not Fedex/Kinko's)

Anyone know of a place near campus that offers binding (cerlox, spiral binding, etc)?

I'm trying to avoid going to the Fedex/Kinko's in the Annex.  Apart from overcharging, the place has lousy customer service, and I don't exactly enjoy handing my money over to some giant corporate behemoth.

I figure there must be some small place nearby that can offer the same services for less, and doesn't have the creepy plastic feel of Kinko's.

Thanks!

I need to know where I can get a fake or old/used UTor ID for a friend who needs access to Robarts. Not to take out books...just to get access to the stacks, so I'm really just looking for something passable.

ROSI being weird?

Is anyone else having trouble logging into ROSI at the moment? I've checked my student number and PIN a billion times, but I keep getting "A problem was encountered and details are as follows:" with no details.

Wondering if it's just me. Oh, ROSI.

My journey thus far...

Hey!

I had the pleasure of seeing our amazing boys on August 7th and 8th in Toronto and Detroit!  I bought VIP to the Toronto show and my sister won soundcheck for the Detroit show.  There are no words that could express the happiness that I felt while at was at these two shows! The guys were so sweet and hilarious! I didn't want to leave the soundchecks, they were just so much fun!

The concerts were full of energy and you could see that the guys really appreciated all the fans for coming out to see them! I had fantastic seats at the Toronto show! and Im going to the Sudbury show in 9 days and I have 3rd row floor for that show as well:D THANK YOU FANCLUB!

I just thought I'd share some of my photos from both shows... ENJOY!
and i have tons of soundcheck videos on my facebook.. so if u have facebook I can add you if you want to see them:D

I just got back from London! If anyone is thinking about going there in any near future to see Les Mis, and are having doubts about it, let me reassure you: It's  worth it:) Have you heard about how brilliant David Thaxton is, but doubted the credibility of the statement? Fear not, he is that brilliant! I love most of the cast, really.  I had an understudies as Éponine and Thénardier though, so I can't say anything about those principals. I'll write a real review later this week, of both Les Mis and Blood Brothers, but I fear it would make me too depressed at the moment to describe the performances in detail, as school starts tomorrow, and I'm falling to pieces with worry, and Les Mis will remind me of good times lost:(

I also intended to post my tale of France now, which I wrote while I was in London, but my mum keeps talking about tomorrow, and I'm close to tears, so I think I'll go to bed early today.
And I'm not really that depressed, since the worst thing that can possibly happen tomorrow is one of those "I'm Anette, what's your name?" introductions in front of the class, and I can live that down. I'm already pretty sure I won't be in the same class as my best friend, so I've gotten used to that thought already, and there will be no nasty shocks tomorrow.

The worst few months in my life were the time I changed school for the first time, three years ago, and I'm really worried this will be the same way. Still, school will finally be more serious business, my school is supposedly one of the best in the district, and that might mean I'll actually learn something I couldn't have done better on my own. (Private lessons = one of my suppressed dreams, Norwegian schools = really bad, if you didn't already know)

I've rediscovered (for real) an old celebrity crush, Paul McGann, and gotten a new obsession: Hornblower! lovelovelove:)

I saw the boys on August 15th in Atlantic City and loaded all my pictures from the show (unfortunately my pics suck, but i'll post some of them anyways!). All I can say is the boys were AMAZING. I brought my friend Danielle who is not a fan (not even close tbh) and she had a blast.

The guys just looked so....happy. They had huge grins on the entire time and it seemed they were genuinely amazed at how many die-hard fans they have. Everyone was singing every song. It was amazing. The guys were flawless in there dancing and singing and...ugh just perfect. i wish i could see them again on this tour, but they aren't coming anywhere close again. I already had to drive 3 hours to see them this time! (well, it actually took 4 1/2 hours with friday rush-hour traffic).

I didn't get to meet them though :( I did not get VIP tickets because i knew Danielle was coming and she is not a superfan and i'm sure would not have wanted to pay $230 for the ticket. But thats ok - i am still so nervous about ever meeting them and having them ruin my perfect mental image lol.

Anyways, here are some pictures...they suck because it was general admission and my camera kept focusing on the hands in front of me instead of on the stage, but i got a few good ones in the bunch!

so there they are. some of them turned out pretty good. All in all i took 250 pictures, and these were the best! hope you all enjoyed!

If you want to see the rest of the pictures, i loaded them all on my flickr account!

yello. nothin' much worth livejournaling about today. painted a lot of my parent's room. well, the parts i could reach at my 5'0 height anyway. went to orientation yesterday, and let me just say that so far i really think i'm gonna like winter springs high school! which is such a releif. praying really can do marvelous things. yeah, i'm most excited about art and english, though. we're gonna do some awesome stuff in art like charcoal, watercolor, and portraits, and then next semester we're doing sculpting. in english i can already tell we're gonna be reading A LOT of books, but that's great, i adore reading.

you don't know what that means. sucks for you.

As some of us are not seeing the guys in concert these days...

... why not discuss the hottest of all current BSB topics on here?

That animal in AJ's face. Some people claim it's a beard.

Any theories why he hasn't shaved lately, beside a silly men bet? Is it part of a promo? Has AJ converted to a yet to us unknown religion? Or does is his current fling just that much into hairy--hair?

Well, here's my current theory. )

Any other (more serious, conspiratorial, weird etcpp.) ideas?

For Sale (delete post if necessary)

So tonight's the Atlantic City show and me and two of my friends are going. There's a catch though, we have one extra ticket that we're going to try to sell before the show. If anyone's been looking for a ticket for this one, try to find us outside the door before we're let in. Remember it's an 18+ show, so unless you are scheming ways to get in, we can only sell to any 18 or older. To find us, just look around, we'll probably be yelling that we have an extra ticket. It'll be a really tall woman most likely doing the yelling or her daughter who is tall as well. Also we're asking $54 for it. Have fun and I hope to see other crazy fans there tonight.
