the friendliest wolf you know [Oct. 21st, 2009|10:10 pm]
[Current Music |friday night, saturday morning - the specials]

So this year for halloween I came down to two final ideas:
1. Kostikas Suru(titi suru) the rock n' roll wolf from Ma-Ma

Photobucket
wolf )

2. A vulture somewhat inspired by Patrick Wolf's recent vulturing around and some what inspired by some really cool kids dressed as owls.
vulture )
In the end I went with the rock n' roll wolf because it was just easier and more practical in the time I have(no sewing of giant wing cape by hand). I will probably try the vulture one latter cause I like it.

Anyhow, I did pick up some cheap wolf ears and a grey "mad scientist" wig this weekend. The wig is too short but it's the closest i've found so I'll just add some extensions or something. Still need to find some make-up and possibly a pipe.

And of course after I got the ears and wig home and tried them on, I had to take a bunch of dumb myspace photos of them on, partially out of excitement and partially so I'll remember what they looked like for halloween.
tired but wolfy )

Kaiba! [Sep. 12th, 2009|11:00 pm]

one of a few kaiba fanarts I have made, because this show has infected me with it's goodness.
I started this one when I had only seen up to episode 3: Chroniko's leather boots

Back in school for my "glorious fifth year" at OCAD with all liberal studies. One of my classmates, in contemporary east asian art, introduced himself to the class with: "hi, my name is blank and this is my glorious fifth year." I think I'll quote him when I have to do mine. I like my courses so I'm excited, and not ready to be finished. Doing tons of art, hopefully will keep going at this rate, I've got to be much better by the time I leave school.

Photobucket

Listening to naked lunch audiobook again leads to me repeatedly and often drunkely quoting all my favourite lines. And the words banisteriopsis caapi, scopolamine and yage(pronounced yaw-hay) dance around in my head just tickling and itching to get out.

"do you think i'm interested to here about your horrible old condition? I am not interested at all!"

"only the laughing bones remain"

"did any of you ever see doctor tetrazzini perform? I say perform advisedly because his operations were performances. He would start by throwing a scalpel across the room into the patient and then make his entrance like a ballet dancer. His speed was incredible: ' I don't give them time to die,' he would say. Tumors put him in a frenzy of rage. 'Fucking undisciplined cells!' he would snarl, advancing on the tumor like a knife-fighter."

would you choose to wake too late or too far away?

so the summer is almost over. I was sick for about a month near the end. I took a course called "the science of colour" which was interesting, but I failed it anyways I think. The sicking and the other things drove me to distraction.

the wonderful and talented pepperminte caitlin featured me in her wonderful and talented blog-
don't read it though- I ramble like a ramblesome fool whenever I'm given the chance. But read the other entries, there are some really talented folks featured:in this privelidged house

I am watching Kaiba very very slowly. I have to watch each episode several times to fully absorb the deliciousness before moving on. Also, like with all truly tasty things, I want to extend the time in which I can suspend my imagined self in a world outside the normal one. I find when I finish reading, when the story ends or the series or the movie or the comic or whatever, it's harder to imagine myself wondering around the world drawn up by that story.

Today I watched the "man of forgotten memories" and cried a little. What a miserable sap I'm becoming in my old age :( a simpering soggy softy in the utter extreme.

I'm learning to use watercolour which I've avoided since it is what I used when I was young and impatient and unable to paint. I'm mostly painting clusters of kaiba characters over and over which I will post.
especially Chroniko, who I love, though I make her hair more indigo to resemble mine.

more=sooooon :;^)

strangers and coincidence [Jul. 10th, 2009|07:25 pm]
[Current Music |barnabys - suki mami mai tai]

Some sticky note sketches from work and some drawings I started just before my grad show and finished a few weeks ago. I can't remember what I was thinking about when I started drawing them, just that I was tense but full of ideas.

One of the stickies is a drawing of my friend afo as a yoyogi park greaser. He's in Korea this summer and he's grown his hair long enough to wear in a sort of samurai bun on the top of his head. I'm gonna draw that next.
I think the images from the peter bjorn and john music video got into my head. After I did the drawing it took me a while to track down the source of the inspiration. I'm not crazy about the song but the yoyogi greasers are super cool. I'm inspired.

oh and the top right sticky sorta reminded me of two people as I was drawing her. One being the great and powerful [info]magpiette sua.

I can't believe it's the end of the year/grad show already. I'm really sad it's all over. Everyone's work looked so great there were so many incredibly talented people in my year. Most of the illustration stuff is up at:

Now I've gotta work on getting my website finished and put up. Sooon sooon.

The kabuki boy is a quick marker sketch I did while doing a painting for class of a "complex scene".
The reference is from 転倒虫's photostream. I love the whole set.

The notes are on the great and powerful [info]gubia. I was asked to do a presentation for drawing and painting class, on a current artist who primarily works in fine art and not illustration. I chose her because of her amazing powers.

i'm so stressed out right now,

It makes me feel anxious, restless, and cravey
like leaping out of my own skin.

also just finished listening to two audiobooks by Dai Sijie both read by B.D. Wong
volcano of the old moon is the distant love interest of the main character in Mr. Muo's Traveling Couch, the second of the two. I didn't enjoy it as much as the first but I liked the name.

I wish there were more radiolab podcasts, i've listened to them all now.
I feel as though the Jad Abumrad and Robert Krulwich are comfy old couches that are now missing from the livingroom landscape of my mind.
I get very attached to the voices of storytellers
it is seldom I find myself in complete silence these days.

Dandelion: Apparently an effective remedy for many different ailments. Each part of the plant has been used to treat one or many separate health concerns. Supposed to be good for jaundice and nervousness among other things.

wolfberry [Jan. 8th, 2009|02:06 pm]
[Current Music |yelle - ce jeu]

wolfberry or goji berry:
The eyes like these berries. They contain high concentrations of Zeaxanthin, one of two carotenoids which naturally occur within the retina. Concentrations of carotenoids decrease over time causing all types of nasty eyeball troubles.
Studies have shown by increasing your intake of foods containing Lutein and zeaxanthin you can decrease the risk of unhappy eyeball.
.....ramble ramble
eyeball gooooo

yah there are so many folk remedies to choose from i chose this one from a list of herbs used in Chinese herbology. I liked the name.

it turns out, besides the great name, and the eyeball goodness, wolfberry is also a powerful antioxidant, strengthens the immune system, treats skin problems, liver problems, kidney....... and on and on.

i paints it now vith paints!
