(Random) Has anyone else had this problem with sleeping at another friend's/boyfriend's house? [May. 19th, 2013|12:49 pm]

I can't sleep with my boyfriend of over a year.
I can sleep completely fine at a few other friend's house, but at my boyfriend's I've gone home numerous times in the middle of the night (including last night) because I lay there never being able to fall asleep. I'm completely comfortable with him, but my mind just does not turn off even though my body is exhausted.
I've taken NyQuil, ZzzQuil, other substances to help me relax which sometimes have helped me successfully sleep a few times...but I still don't like the fact I basically have to drug myself to sleep there!
I'm thinking it might be the mattress because we've slept fine before in another bed, but I can tell it sort of bugs him, getting excited to sleepover and in the morning I'm gone.
I get worried for what if we move in together in the future...

Has anyone else had this issue with sleepovers?
I'm actually considering seeing a doctor because I just can't get my mind to shut off :(
Not sure if I just over think the whole process or what..

Has the neverending bleeding finally happened? [May. 19th, 2013|12:02 am]

[mycopperfriend]
Hello lovely Divas!

I posted here a while back after I first got my IUD put in. I am 22 years old I've had a Paragard for 8 months now and I've been very pleased with it, up until about this month, and I'd love some of you guys' input.

I've been pretty regular with the Paragard. I would have my period usually around the same time every month. It would go like this: A couple days of spotting, then nothing, and then I'd get week long heavier bleeding and then it would be done. It wasn't really a hassle, and I didn't mind it.

Last month, though, around April 26th, I started spotting again and I've never really stopped. Some days it's heavier, and some days it's light, but every time I think it's letting up I'll just end up bleeding again the next day. That's a lot of pads! I haven't had sex so I know I'm not pregnant. I don't know if I should be concerned about this or not because I've heard about this happening with the Paragard but after being regular for 7 months with it this is kind of freaking me out. I'm not seeing anyone right now or having sex so it's not impacting my love life or anything, it's definitely going to start affecting my wallet though because I am constantly wearing pads and pantiliners because of the bleeding.

I check the string and the IUD is in place.

I really don't want to have to get it removed because it really has been he best birth control I've had. I can't take hormones. I just want the bleeding to stop. It's been almost a month now!

I'd appreciate anything. Anything at all. Thanks!

Red face after Ranch dressing? [May. 18th, 2013|10:38 am]

[ladyelentari]
My 19 month old loves Hidden Valley Ranch dressing, but every time he has it, his face turns red on the areas where it touched. He has no other side affects, and I've looked at the ingredients to try to figure out what it is, but I can't pinpoint anything specifically. I remember his face got red like that one other time when he ate either banana peppers or an off brand of pickles (unfortunately, I can't remember exactly which). The only similarities in the ingredients is in the preservatives, but its not an exact match- sodium bisulfate in banana peppers and pickles, but disodium phosphate in the ranch. However, they both have sodium, so I'm thinking it's a possible culprit? But isn't sodium essentially salt?
I don't know guys. I mean, on the one hand, it's just a little rash, and it goes away after about an hour and doesn't seem to bother him, but on the other, I'd like to know more about it. I guess I'll tell the doc about it at his next appointment, or do you think I should schedule one sooner to address this?

I know there's not really any specific question in there, I'm just looking for other parent's thoughts on the matter.

Are mid-cycle cramps with Mirena common? [May. 17th, 2013|08:19 pm]

iud_divas

[talena6]
I've had my Mirena a few months and today I am having terrible cramps. I'm nowhere near my period, in fact just about halfway. I thought it might be ovulation pain but it's on both sides and feels just like menstrual cramps. No spotting or anything.

Does anyone else get menstrual-like cramps between periods?

Successful Insertion TCu380 [May. 17th, 2013|01:13 pm]

Well, finally I succeeded. After reading a lot and a failed attempt (read the story here) I got an appointment with a nice doctor. After explaining her about my last experience, she said that the insertion probably failed because of the c-section scar, which might have hardened the tissue of my cervix.  For better results, she prescribed two pills of misoprostol 4 hours before the insertion and arranged me an appointment 10 days after my period started. All the procedure will cost me about $160, (I don't have insurance).

I´ve had misoprostol before for an abortion, so I was familiar with the side effects, which where exactly the same: Chills and shivering, abdominal pain, nausea and diarrhea. It also irritated my tongue and my throat very bad.

An hour before, I took 2 400mgs of Ibuprofen and there I was, nervous and excited. The doctor was very kind and explained the procedure to me. After that, she inserted the speculum and then the tenaculum, with no pain at all. Then she started to dilate the cervix with the sound, very slowly. It was painful, but not unbearable and it took a long time, as the cervix was really tight. Maybe 20 minutes. But in the end, it opened and she could insert the DIU, which I felt like a quick strong cramp. I was expecting the worse pain of my life, but I was feeling quite fine. She also recommended to follow a very healthy diet and to use Ibuprofen only if the pain was too bad. She gave me arnica homeopathic pills and told me to take them three times a day. And to avoid any immerse baths or sexual contact for a week. She also recommended me to use a back up contraception method for the first month, when I have another appointment to check mi IUD.

After the insertion, I had cramps for the first 36 hours, and despite her recommendation, I took Ibuprofen every 8 hours for the first two days. I was feeling bloated like hell. I also had a bad itchy irritation in the entrance of my vagina, which was really uncomfortable with the panty liner I had to wear due to the constant spotting I have. The doctor said this is caused by the antiseptic she used to disinfect my vagina before the insertion, and recommended to rinse with a solution of baking soda and water.   After 3 days with the baking soda, the itch faded. I also started to take vitamin E, 400Ui every day. It seemed to work after 5 days, because the spotting stopped. By day 6, I had just mucus discharged, lightly yellowish, (ovulation maybe?) so I stopped with the vitamins. Maybe that was a mistake because 4 days later, I started bleeding again. So I took the the vitamins again. Today has been two weeks since the insertion, and since 3 days ago, I started bleeding and again. Is it possible that my period is coming 5 days earlier, because the bleeding seems like a light period and I have mild cramps?

almost one-month anniversary with mirena [May. 17th, 2013|12:36 am]

hey all,

it's been a pretty smooth ride with mirena so far. before mirena, i had never been on birth control before. i was too scared of the possible negative side effects. i'm glad i finally gave birth control a go.

here are some quick details of my experience since insertion..

- spotting. started to lightly spot a few days after insertion. it's kinda annoying, but a pantyliner helps.

- cramping. not much at all. i'll have a quick cramp for like 10-15 secs but then it's gone for the rest of the day. i can go to work, school and exercise just fine without any problems.

- sex. it's still feels amazing. my sex drive has increased, it was already high, but now i feel like a 15 year old boy who wants it ALL THE TIME. a couple negatives i've noticed are that my lover has to reapply lube on me more often and i'll cramp for a moment or two after sex.

- moods. no change for the better/worse. i still get the same PMS-y symptoms a week before my period.

- acne. no crazy breakouts. my dry skin is a little oilier now, but no biggie.

-periods. i got my first period a couple of days ago and it's been great! pre-iud, i would leak through an ultra tampon within 1-3 hours and HORRIBLE cramps where i did not want to get out of bed. with the mirena, my first period has been very light. i also don't need to pop a bunch of ibuprofen for the pain.

all up, i'm super happy with mirena. thanks again for your support and advice. i hope everyone else is iud-happy too!

One year (or actually 13 months) with my copper IUD (A very happy update!) [May. 16th, 2013|08:54 pm]

Hi all,

In April I officially marked one year with my copper IUD (not Paraguard but a U-shaped brand from China).

I know I had tooooooons of trepidations about whether to get an IUD or not and was very comforted to read positive stories here, so I figured I'd add my success story in hopes of maybe helping someone.

A very brief summation: I'm 26, np, was on and off HBC for years and loathed it (no matter what brand I always had crippling depression and very sore boobs) so I wanted something non-hormonal.

Opted for a copper IUD and I am so very glad I did! Insertion was a little rough but I was fine after I left the doctor's office, just cramping and back ache for the next few days. Periods were heavier and more crampy for the first few months but nothing ibuprofen couldn't knock out. Had some random bleeding with sex intermittently for the first year but again, never anything terrible (plus a very supporting partner who didn't mind at all).

Overall, I'm so glad I have my IUD. My only regret is not getting one years ago when I first started having problems with HBC (still mildly annoyed that my various doctors never mentioned an IUD as an option and instead decided to put me on a bunch of different pills...)

I can't sing IUD praises loudly enough, if you're considering making the switch I say definitely do it. Life's so nice without the side effects or daily remembering to take a pill.

Hope this was helpful to someone!

First 7 days post-insertion: a diary [May. 16th, 2013|03:59 pm]

I decided to keep a diary of my Mirena experience of the first 7 days. I think this is useful for those who are wondering what may happen to them. I know it's something I would've liked to see before I got mine. My experience is my own, though, and not everyone’s will be as mine was. With that said, it still gives an idea of what could happen.

Cut 'cause it's long, mentions sex and talks about painCollapse )

Hopefully this was helpful to at least one person. To the people yet to get their IUD, good luck and hopefully it will be smooth sailing for you!

To paragard or not to paragard? [May. 16th, 2013|03:11 pm]

[mood |awakeawake]

Hello!! I'm new to this community and I just needed a bit of encouragement. I just had my first and only son about eight weeks ago. He was born premature due to severe pre-eclampsia and HELLP syndrome and he will more than likely be my only child.
I spoke with my ob/gyn about birth control options and the IUD was his recommendation because I am pumping/planning on breast feeding and my husband isn't ready to get snipped yet. I have my Paragard ordered but I am terribly nervous about the insertion and aftermath. I know everyone is different but I was wondering:
How long did it take after insertion for you to be able to go back to normal? My son is in NICU and I can't afford to be down for longer than a day.
Do you have any suggestions for analgesia post insertion?
I also still haven't gotten my period back and was wondering if any of you breastfed and if the Paragard caused your cycle to return after insertion?
