Pls correct my English translation of Akutagawa Ryunosuke
Hello!
I am now trying to accomplish the Japanese-English translation for a literature of the famous author, Akutagawa Ryunosuke, just for my enjoyment and studies.  As some of you probably know, his works are really fascinating. I picked up this short story, “Hana” (Nose). This  is about a priest in a high position whose nose was huge. He had an extreme self-conscious on his nose and everybody knew about it (and laughed over it) but the priest pretended not to show his inferiority complex  Anyway, it is Akutagawa’s short story in early period.

So to improve my English writing skil, could somebody corrrect my errors? I would be so much appreciated if you would do the proof reading! Thanks very much!

Hana (nose) by Akutagawa Ryunosuke

To begin with, about Zenchinaigu’s nose, of course, everyone knew in Ikenoo. The length was 18 cm long, and it hangs down from upper lips til under his chin. It was formed very fat as the same width from the top to the end. Let’s say, it is formed as if sort of a long and thin sausage lays pendulous in center of his face. Naigu, aged over 50, has been bothered by this huge nose all time of the years throughout the time, beginning on the day he had first became a Buddhist priest until he became a successful high ranked priest now. Of course, he didn’t show his real inner worries and pretended as if nothing was wrong. The reason was that someone as a saint priest who’s supposed to concentrate in teaching of Buddhism and looks up people’s virtue should not worry about his own nose, but not only that, he was more likely that he simply didn’t want people suspect he cares about his nose. Naigu was being most fearful everytime when someone says the word, “nose”.

There were two reasons that Naigu foud it too difficult to deal with. One is that his nose was technically inconvenient. For crissake, when eating, he couldn’t eat alone. If he tried, it would reach to the rice in a metal rice container. So he asked one of his apparentices and order to sit in front of him uplift his nose from far away by two long choptsticks with width 3cm and 60cm long. But it is not that easy for both of them, the apprarentice and himself. Once when Chudouji (a waiter) tried, his hands trembled at the time when he sneezed, so Naigu dropped his nose into the porridge. That story was spread around. .---But troubled by his nose was not the reason why Naiji suffered. Actually he got hurt by the pride that was suffered by his nose.

Found in a prizewinning student essay that deconstructed a print advertisement:

"This advertisement begins using its powers of persuasion by showing a woman very relatable to the women who live in the United States. "

This is the third time in the last three weeks that I have seen or heard someone use the word "relatable" this way, to mean "people can relate to". Am I the only one who thinks is this an incorrect use of this word? To me, a story can be relatable, in that you are able to retell it. But it sounds very wrong to describe a person or an object being relatable.

Anyone else?

Talking to the cops is always very awkward.

Anyway, I'm fairly sure this is done with. Bryan is very drunk and Cora read me some of the text messages. It's pretty funny. I don't think he's coming over, but Chromium, Polaris, Wolverine, Komso and I and hanging out in my room with the door locked until Kenny and Jermy get home.

Oh yeah, and Jenni pretty much invented dick bumps, don't forget.

Cora just called me and said that Bryan texted Jenni and said he was going to kill her and all her friends and that he would be at the house in five minutes.

I'm locked in my room with all the animals and the door and windows are locka dn the lights are off but I'm scared.

I hear sirens. She said she called the cops. Could be unrealated. I don't really want to go downstairs. :(

I am very happy I have a camera on the hallway.

Money. And Lowe's. Mostly Lowe's.
Two weeks ago, Milepost deactivated my debit card because of a fraud alert. Fair enough. I'd never even been to the gas station where my card number was used, nor do I have a car. They said it would take one or two weeks for my new card to arrive. Here we are at another payday, and I realize that my card hasn't arrived and a full two weeks has gone by. So, I called them up during lunch today and asked what was going on.

Oh, yeah. They forgot to order a new card. The lady was very apologetic, and I didn't really care that much, I just want my debit card. I'm sick of writing checks. It makes me feel like a grandma.

I have noticed (as I have been viewing my account every day to make sure nothing funny is happening) that I spend a lot less money with no debit card. I've been bringing my own lunch to work, making breakfast every day, and I realized that I really DON'T need to eat a huge meal for lunch. It just makes me tired. Saves me a fair amount of money every day too.

A problem with not buying my lunch every day is that I have to find new ways to spend an hour when eating only takes at most ten minutes. Today I sewed closed a hole that had opened up in my Lowe's vest. Every single person that walked into the break room first asked me "What are you doing?" ("What does it fucking look like I'm doing?") and then "Why don't you just get a new vest?" ("I LIKE THIS ONE.") and then a "You know, those vests are meant to be thrown away.

Lowe's is wasteful in many ways. The biggest, I feel, is its complete lack of recycling other than cardboard. Reams and reams of paper are thrown away daily. Genesis, its computer system that was developed in 1990 (I don't actually know when, but it wouldn't know what an image was if you hit it with one.) and not really updated since, makes it far easier to print out a 50 page report and throw away all but two pages than to just print the two you need. I've customized the settings at my workstation to automatically stop all print jobs and put them in the spooler so that I can choose the pages I want, but it's not the default for the other hundred computers in the store.

That's just paper! So much plastic, wood, and metal is thrown away daily. I don't know how big the compactor is, but it has to be emptied about once a week. Soemthing that really bothers me is that we can't take our vests home to wash them. I know why (Lowe's doesn't want vests to leave the building so that people can't take thema nd go into stores to impersonate Lowe's employees) but their policy leads to such waste, as you pretty much have to thrown the vest away if it gets dirty of torn.

To save costs, I guess, since so many vests just get thrown away, they're made really cheaply, which just leads to them falling apart even faster. They've come out with a new kind that had the little pocket for the box knife right up front next to the buttons rather than off to the side. Since that would drive me up the wall (Much like the store manager turning up the volume of the Musak. GAH!), I decided to take a spool of thread and a needle to work with me to repair the vest.

The end.

Professional, huh?
I read a recent blog entry written by a rather famous urban fantasy author, who claims she is dyslexic (although I'm starting to think that's a lame excuse for constantly using "loose" when she means "lose.") Here are a couple of grammar and spelling errors from that blog entry that made me cringe.

I’m a writer and words is my business

as fine as you can be with a three hour operation and general anthestia

Now, I try not to pick on professional writers much, especially ones who blog, but this really made me headdesk. She could have at least tried to use spellcheck.

Infectious Disease
I've had four five calls from the Health Department about Kyle. Apparently the organism he has, Campylobacter, is a Reportable Infectious Disease. Lovely.

Thankfully, they didn't send us back to Children's Hospital. He still isn't doing any better, but as long as he doesn't dehydrate, I can keep him home with us. We have another appointment Tuesday. Little man is so pitiful. I've had to buy out Kroger's Pedialyte to keep him fed.

I just spent way too long trying to figure out the least inconvenient way to get my interview tomorrow. I'll probably get on a bus way earlier than I have to, but whatever. I hate riding to Seattle in the mornings. The buses are always so crowded.

Now I need to shower and shave because if I wait til the morning, I won't have time, as Jason and Michelle will be getting ready at the same time I would need to do so. I just hate showering at night, as it tends to wake me up.

unsure.

Hello everyone :)
I'm chloe and I'm new here!
Really young... only in high school.

Alright, here's my story: I've never dated anyone before, so I dont know what being in love really is like. I've had many crushes on girls before, but for my present one, i think i might really be in love with her. How can you tell? This has already lasted for 2 years. I'm not sure if she knows!
She's a senior in high school, in the same sports group as me and I've had a little crush on her since the first time I saw her. Both of us are really feminine. We have the longest hair, wear dresses and heels, both like pink and purple. Well, i have one friend whose gaydar is sharply tuned though. She once asked me if I liked girls because I look like the kind who would. I was compltetly stunned. I'm not ready to come out because I'm not sure myself.
Anyway... we always looked at each other but have never said anything only until the end of the year, when I gathered up my courage to introduce myself to her. Ever since then, we've been talking, but only onthe phone messaging, or on IM. This kinda sucks, because I never see her around at school and even if I do, there are always butterflies in my stomach and I get really scared thinking about whether she would like me for who I am or not. So as much as i tell myself to be myself, I just shut up and make myself seem like this whole boring person. I think she can tell that I like her, I mean the way I talk to her everyday? It's pretty obvious. But no one has said anything. I've never dared to tell her I love her, and have never given her a hug or anything, but our messages everyday since more than a year ago till present do mean something special. The way we would find any lame excuse to find each other at school. like borrowing a calculator when it's pretty obvious that she can borrow one from her sister. Aha. So anyway..

Here's the trouble: She's graduating tomorrow. It will be her last day at high school(apart from her major exams), which are just after my exams. I dont knwo what to do. I have completely no intention of telling her how I feel. I'll be seeing her tomorrow to pass her my calculator for her major exams. i dont know what to say to her. This will be the last time I'll see her at school. Both of us are too shy to arrange plans to go out, well maybe if there's a concert we would. We'll be having a farewell party for our sports group at the end of the year, but that's probably all.
I don't wanna say goodbye. I want to find out what she thinks about me. I want more time.

What should I do? Should I tell her she really is that someone special in my life who makes me happy? I don't wanna make this too awkward, because we're always cracking jokes and making each other laugh on IM. How can I hint to her, w/o making it too obvious? What should I do?

Thank you for taking time to read this:)

Vacation and Hospital
Evan and I headed back to the Myrtle Beach Sunday before last. Our condo was FANTASTIC. It was two bedrooms, two baths, with a full kitchen, flat plasma big screen and a wrap around balcony that was accessible from the living room and both bedrooms. Seriously, it was gorgeous. It was also super cheap since it is off season.

We had a great time. Evan absolutely loves the water. We went to the ocean and the pool twice a day minimum or faced his wrath. There's this magnificent playground nearby as well. I've never seen that child so happy. A church pre-school group was there when we took him; he was running around playing with everyone he could reach. It was a great trip.

We got home Saturday, unfortunately right in time to take Kyle to the hospital on Sunday. I have to say while the accommodations were not as nice as the condo, they were far above my expectations. We were released a few hours ago, though I can't say he's much better. He hasn't been able to keep down formula since Wednesday. We have a follow up appointment Friday morning. If he's still this bad, he'll probably have to be readmitted.

I had 86 non-spam emails. Seriously.

Mom and Garth are on their way home from the airport! Yay! Lynnhood sucks. I expected them to be back by now, though. Mom called at 12:15 saying they landed. Traffic isn't bad, according to the WSDOT site. It shouldn't take 2 hours to get up here.

I'm kinda nervous about the interview Friday. It's for a before/after school care place, by the way. I mean, I don't really have that much experience in the child care industry.
The interview is a two part one. One portion is an actual sit-down-and-talk interview and the second part involves going to one of the centers (they have several locations around Seattle) for "observation." I'm unclear if they will be observing me with children, or if I just observe how things work. The guy wasn't too clear on that. And how it goes will depend on the age of the children. The younger ones at IslandWood didn't seem to like me at first. The older ones did.
And I'll have to hop a bus three hours before the interview just to get there on time.

I'm hungry.

Utterly Improbable Awesomeness!
You know those radio call-in specials that nobody ever seriously wins? Like, they read the number to call and you call and it's always busy and then they air the clip of some excited lady winning whatever it is and you swear they just made that up and there never was a prize?

Andy called the number on the radio on a whim and actually won. So guess who's going to Death Cab for Cutie on Sunday?

Fuckin' A.

Leveling up!!
I could post all the pics I have but much easier to just type it all out.

After taking a lengthy break from Runecrafting I leveled other areas of skills and here are the results:

80 mining (thank you shooting star!)
64 farming (last week-end)
and
57 Summoning (obtained last night)

I actually took two days off from Runescape and ended up playing for a really long time last night.

Furthmore, I am now combat 110, like crazie!! RAwr
(thank you [info]st_squiggy and [info]heartless_jekka for your added information to help make 110).

I am, presently, 1.5k away from 10K deaths....woot woot. Going to have some fun with clan wars this week-end. If you are free, please come and join us!

Cheers!
