Tutorial for [info]elanordh.

From this to this  =) Using PS 7.0

This tutorial was requested by my wonderful lj friend [info]elanordh (check out her amazing tut over here). Hope this helps!

 The icon itself is simple to make, however I do not tell you where to find the tools we will be using

(I presume most of you know where they are) so it might be a bit challenging for beginners. If you are confused about anything, feel free to ask!

Base was created using a picture from

arwen-undomiel

 

First go to Filter-> sharpen-> sharpen. Then Image->  adjustments->  auto colour. Image-> adjustments-> auto levels.   Filter-> sharpen-> unsharpen mask (amount 48, radius 1, thres. 0)

Now, take the blur tool, set your brush to 8 px. with blurred edges, strength 50% and go over her skin (not her eyes or lips)

Take the Sharpen tool, brush size 8, strength 50%. Go over her lips twice, and click several times on her pupil.

 

Duplicate layer, set to screen, opacity 47%.

 

Duplicate again, desaturate, and set to soft light, opacity 100%

 

New layer. Fill with 05112F, and set to exclusion opacity 49%

 

New layer, fill with D0A17A and set to multiply, opacity 45%

 

Copy the base layer and set it to hard light, opacity 87%, above all the other layers.

 

Take this light texture, (created by -please let me know) flip it, and turn it to lighten, opacity 26%.

 

Take this light texture, created by colorfilter. Flip it, set it to lighten opacity 52%

Flip this texture created by -please let me know), and set it to lighten, opacity 52%



 		 Now you can stop if you are happy with the icon, or you can create the tear effect. Merge all the layers. Take the burn tool, with a brush of 1 px. exposure 50% and draw a line with it. Erase some parts of it so it doesn't look fake. Take the sharpening tool with a 6 px. brush and go over the line. (exposure 50% again)

And we are done! =) Please share icons you have created using this tutorial, I'd love to see what you come up with  ^_^

Hon, I made something following your wonderful tutorial :) I had to "cheat" a little bit, because I don't have every tool in PaintShopPro (I use this program). It will be a part of my 100 icons :D But I think I'll show you this now, to spare you (and me) this long waiting ;) lol (I'm very slowly with my set ;) )

This is a fantastic tutorial and a beautiful icon *adds to memories*! You've inspired me since I'm having an icon block at the moment so thank you so much. I'll post what I come up with soon. Also just to see if it's alright to use your light textures? I'll credit you of course.

The light textures are not mine, and unfortunately I can't remember from whom exactly I got the from (even though one of them is colorfilter) but I am sure it will be ok if you use them. (the makers are located somewhere on my resource page, I'll try to locate the makers)

Takjsem taky přišla "na návštěvu"..bezvadný tutorial..až se konečně naučím dělat s vrstvami v photoshopu,tak ho určitě vyzkouším..:)

heey! I love this tutorial!!

The tutorial's wonderful--beautiful effect, and easy to follow, even for someone stuck with Photoshop 2.0. Still, I've saved it to memories, and created this icon with it (though using different fill colors--dark green instead of dark blue, and a more yellowish tan than the one prescribed). Thank you so much.

I changed a lot of things, though. I wanted to know whether this looked like a tear or not 'cause I am so not sure. XD Don't be afraid to be honest!

Thank you! I am happy you found it useful =)I love the tear! It doesnt stand out that much and it looks natural =) Perhaps going over it once more wouldn't hurt, but I like it a lot ;)

Hi. This is an awesome tut. Will definitely try it out.
Did have a question though (as I am new to PS). When you talk about the Sharpen Tool and Burn Tool - where exactly is that tool?

The tools are on the side in the main menu.. I am sure if you look at some screencaps you can find it labeled, I such at explaining *blushes*
