This Is What Happens When You Act Like I Do

It's Not Pretty.

6/9/06 02:01 pm

I changed accounts! I think I added you to my new account, but you never friended me back.

1/19/06 09:25 am

I changed LiveJournal accounts. I have a new one (same layout though, if you want to do some detective work). I friended certain people, so if you get a random friend request, check the user info. It'll be me.

I don't plan to update this journal anymore, but I'm not deleting it. I ought to make some kind of banner or something...

1/11/06 05:03 pm

Oh, no one loves me. No one ever comments. I would delete my journal, but I like to go back and read everything periodically. So, I think I'm just going to make a new journal. I'm going to go and re-friend all my old friends, so please friend me.

1/9/06 10:37 am - my podcast

I am starting a podcast. It's going to be a Harry Potter-themed thing. I've already had one person agree to host with me, and I need a couple others. Does anyone want to help me? You have to download Skype and Audacity. Both are completely free. For Skype, you will need a microphone. Audacity is just a voice recording program that makes it easier to edit the shows.

I would really love to have someone I don't have contact with in the real world come onto the show. Nothing's set in stone yet, so we can work with everyone's schedule. You don't have to be a maniacal, crazed, rabid Harry Potter fan (though you will most likely meet some while doing this) but you need a good knowledge of the books and some parts of the Potterverse.

Comment with your email address and anything else you think would be pertinent if this interests you. All comments are screened, so you have your privacy.

Anyway, I'm starting my own website to sell Harry Potter scarves.

Poll: Should I name it...

1. The Enchanted Needle
2. The Magic Needle
3. The Enchanted Needles
4. The Magic Needles

Comment with your vote, or comment with a name you think would be appropriate/better that I haven't thought of yet.

I am totally doing a report on Albus Dumbledore... and my teacher's letting me. How cool is that? I made a scarf, a Gryffindor scarf. Photos later.

If you want a house scarf, email me and I'll charge you $16 plus shipping which will probably be $2. It'll take a couple weeks, but you'll get a nice handmade-to-order scarf.

11/29/05 10:29 am

OK, relevance out of 100

I took a sorting test on personalitylab.org

Gryffindor--76
Ravenclaw--66
Hufflepuff--75
Slytherin--38

I'm going to go with Gryffindor.

11/29/05 09:57 am - i'm bold-facing the entry so you can read it and COMMENT.

Every time I see a piano, I patiently, nonchanlantly wait until everyone else is done plinking randomly, then I sit down and play Chopsticks. People are like, "come on, you can't play and i want to take 20 minutes trying to pick out the first three measures of Fur Elise." Without a word, I just look at them as I launch into Moonlight Sonata. It's really really fun to do that to people. Sometimes I throw in a Fur Elise if they're not stunned enough. That's what 11 years of classical piano lessons will do to you.

I would be really really mad if something happened to my piano. I wish I had a baby grand; I would play every single day if I had a grand piano. I think I might want to take lessons again. I quit when our was being remodeled after the fire because I wasn't able to practice as often, with the piano being in the house and not the temporary apartment. I started again with a different teacher (my last teacher was the head of the music department at VSU) who was a music teacher at some private school. She was alright, but she never made lessons interesting or challenged me like Dr. Scully did. After about a year or so with her, I neglected practicing and started whining to my parents that I wanted to quit, so they just gave up. I haven't had lessons in about a year and a half.

I miss the piano lessons. I started learning a couple songs on my own lately, but I really do need a second opinion when finishing. I need someone to tell me, "You need to crescendo in measure 13" or "You're doing good but you need to emphasize the top note, because that's what really carries the melody. Try banging the key with your pinky."

I think I'm going to ask my dad if he'll pay for lessons with Dr. Scully again. Despite all the whining and begging to quit, I do still want to hone my skills. Dr. Scully once said I had talent (I had forgotten he ever said that until lately) and I actually enjoy playing the piano.

I need to learn to play something beside Moonlight Sonata.

Also, I had a really wild job idea. I could go to some fancy restaurant and ask them if they would like someone to play Christmas carols on the piano, to provide some holiday ambiance. I can play a million carols, but the bad part is that I can only play them for about a month out of the year. Otherwise, people ask "Why are you playing Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer in March?"

well, i don't feel so good. i couldn't see harry potter at 12:01 this morning because my mother found an article in the paper about how lack of sleep affects kids in school. the study cited a sample of 7 to 12 year olds. I AM SIXTEEN. Plus, the article had a lot of loose ends and it would have gotten a 2 on the AP essay test. SO THERE.

also, i stayed up until 3:00 a.m. sitting in the dark in my bed, which is probably when i would have fallen asleep if i had been allowed to go see the Harry Potter premiere. SO THERE. Secret rebellion. So there, it's not like I gained any sleep by not going, MOTHER.

i found an awesome icon place. see comments on latest icon for details.

Edit: SOMEONE PLEASE CACHE THE PAGE. I think the teacher is going to delete it soon. Or save the file or something. Tony, if you read this, could you please save the file or something and put it in my folder on the site (if i still have it)?

11/4/05 10:13 am - my halloween costume

So anyway, Halloween was Monday. My little sister and my mother went trick-or-treating, and someone had to hand out candy, so the task fell to me. I wasn't about to sit out there in just my street clothes, so I went upstairs and got a white sheet out of the linen closet. Then, I got some black construction paper and cut a couple oval(ish) shaped pieces. I grabbed some tape out of my mother's desk and then went outside adn assembled my costume. Ta-da! I was a ghost. Not just any ghost, though.

When people came to the door, I said, "Wooo, I'm Sirius Black."

1. I'll respond with something random about you.
2. I'll tell you what song/movie reminds me of you.
3. I'll pick a flavor of jello to wrestle with you in.
4. I'll say something that only makes sense to you and me.
5. I'll tell you my first/clearest memory of you.
6. I'll tell you what animal you remind me of.
7. I'll ask you something that I've always wondered about you.
8. If I do this for you, you must post this on your journal. You MUST. It is written.

I need a lab coat. A nice, fireproof, tailored white one, with a breast pocket and some other pockets. A lab coat that I can get embroidered. My year of chemistry won't be complete without conducting at least one lab in a lab coat. Those huge black fireproof rubbery aprons that come down to my ankles are slimming, but too utilitarian. I will REALLY need (read: want) one if we actually have an AP Chemistry class next year. Chemistry is wonderful; I've never liked a school subject as much as this, nor has it come so easily before. I like my chemistry teacher, Ms. Dowler. She has a personality, yet maintains control and a professional distance. Plus we do labs almost twice a week. Labs are so much fun. Last time, I was putting copper (II) nitrate over the bunsen burner to get the nitrogen out. (The reaction made a scary yellow gas that we weren't supposed to breathe.) Then, we were supposed to let the test tube cool, but the bell was about to ring and we needed to finish that part, so Catherine added the nitric acid (to start the opposite reaction) while the test tube was hot. Well, the nitric acid caught on fire in the bottom of the test tube. Catherine was using to dropper to put it in when she said, "Uh, Charlotte, I think it's on fire." And I was holding the test tube with these teeny-weeny forceps, which meant my hands were only about three inches from the flaming test tube. Wonderful. I just stood there for a couple seconds, then filled a crucible with water and dunked the end of the test tube in there until we couldn't see a flame.

Other Chemistry Mishaps

--Our first lab, when we were trying to dry the inside of the graduated cylinder before measuring the hydrochloric acid. I rolled up a paper towel, stuffed it in there, then realized I couldn't get it back out. I tried for about 30 seconds to scrape it out with my fingers, then Catherine took it from me and tried to pry the paper towel out with a pen. No such luck, so I had the bright idea of putting water on top of the paper towel and letting it soak, then maybe it would slide out later. So Catherine and I filled it with water (the paper towel made a good stopper, so it was only about 25 mL of water) and hid it behind our little bucket of materials. At the end of the lab, it was time to wash dishes and the paper towel STILL wouldn't come out, so I hid it under my lab apron when I went out into the hall to the sink full of Alconox. (darn bell will finish later promise.)

I am sitting in comupter class, chewing this absolutely huge wad of gum. It all started when we looked under Tim's desk in French II and found this HUGE piece of red gum that someone stuck under the desk. Well, I had a pack of winterfresh so i decided to try and make an even bigger wad. I chewed five pieces then ran out of gum, so i tried to get moe gum from people (i got three pieces of eclipse from tim, but the wad still wasn't big enough) but then the bell rang. So, now i'm going to have to stick it in a piece of wax paper over the weekend and hope i can find some more gum.
